You could build a deck around this card, it's not even funny.
I personally like to use both Llanowar Elves and Birds of Paradise to get a mana advantage as quick as possible. Then play a Spellbook for . Tinker it on turn 2 and get a Darksteel Colossus or whatever you fancy. Also the original being an uncommon in Urza's Legacy makes it a little easier(If you can find the packs) to get.
easiest, most realistic hand. obviously theres tons of ways to do it turn one too.

I would put this in the same tier of power as Black Lotus. Practically the only two excuses for not putting Black Lotus in your deck are not owning any and it being banned. Likewise, any deck with a half-decent artifact presence needs this card if it's legal and in your collection. That's not even going into DELIBERATELY breaking this card, such as with big guys like Darksteel Colossus, Inkwell Leviathan, Reaper King, Mycosynth Golem, Darksteel Forge, etc.

Dear StuartHamilton:
I like your thinking, Timmy, but there are far, far worse things to bring down on your opponent. I can think of a two mana artifact that will bring unending Hellfire upon any person unwitting enough to sit around until turn three. I can think of several one mana artifacts that are game-changing in their own right, that even alone will automatically demand the best removal an opponent may have. And that's without going into artifact creatures.
You have a good grasp on big creatures. You can definitely improve the scope of your concept of the game, however.

Platinum angel seems like a really silly choice for this card, there are hundreds of artifacts I'd rather have collossus, inkwell leviathin, sphinx of the steelwind, Darksteel Forge, who cares if you can't lose the game on turn three. Your opponents are going to care if you have a 11/11 trampling indestructible on the field turn three. Turn one, ornithopter, black lotus, badda bing badda boom Freekin collossus. They play a plains. You swing for 11. They play an island, they play a storm crow. You swing for 9. Game, without playing a land.
If anyone gave this less than five than you probably don't exist.

The Timmy in me hates cards like this because they make the game unfair, but my inner Vorthos absolutely adores them. The fact that they are banned/restricted only makes them more appealing to me, like they are "too powerful to be allowed to exist" or something. Demonic Tutor is one example of a banned spell that plays an important role in the modern storyline.

To the person who said it's "banned for a reason" PLEASE specify what you mean when saying stuff like that. This card is only banned in Type 1.5 / Legacy. It's perfectly legal, though Restricted, in Type 1. I know it's petty, but two days ago, I was in a game storm, and a friend of mine was asking about Crucible of Worlds and Fastbond because I play a combo with it, and, he said "like 3 people said "oh you want that stupid gay combo?" and then another said "it's only legal in casual anyway, it's banned" and I was actually kind of annoyed to say the least because it happened AFTER I left with my Wife to get something to drink, AND because the guy who said that obviously was totally wrong, as Fastbond is totally Legal in Type 1, and on top of that, my friend taught ME how to play wayyyyy back in early 1994, so, he hadn't played Magic much in over 10 years, so, had no way of knowing that more than Type 1 now exists, so saying stuff like that, is going to make people who don't look for themselves think something isn't legal, and then end up looking either stupid, or losing games because they don't know the rules.

The ridiculous power level of this card has been highlighted. But what's more frustrating, to me, is that you can't respond to the spell except to counter it. It would have been much more balanced (still broken though) if you could at least kill the critter and fizzle the spell, ala Polymorph.

It's somewhat understandable that this card was made when it was made, considering that there was no Darksteel or Blightsteel Colossus at the time. Good artifact creatures were much less frequent. They had Masticore, but that in itself is not really capable of winning the game the way later artifact creatures can. Mostly it was useful as a way to get a needed component for a combo deck.
The real question then is, knowing that Tinker existed already and would be available in Vintage and Legacy (at the time), why did they go in later sets and print the kinds of artifact creatures they have?
