without combos it's at most useful when playing against other specific black decks with the common restricted destruction effects, and even then it's only useful if yours isn't already mono-black anyways.

there are some good and semi-useful combos, though:
-the best one of them is likely done with Teysa, Orzhov Scion, to create a saccing-loop. given that you control at least three creatures, you can remove any of your opponents creatures from the game.

-with Darkest Hour, any creature with protection from black (or cards like Raven's Run Dragoon) will be unblockable and have some sort of "creature-shroud".

other useful effects:
-Razorjaw Oni: to disable blocking
-Stronghold Taskmaster or Urborg Shambler to shrink every creature's p/t by 1.
-Light of Day: to create mass Pacifism.
-Reclamation: to most widely prevent attacking

given that your opponents has creatures:
-Nantuko Blightcutter: having protection from black, he's unblockable anyways, and with threashold, he'll grow by 1 for every creature you opponent controls.
-Northern Paladin or Exorcist: to destroy your opponents creatures.
-Spectral Force: to negate its drawback to get a 8/8 tramper for 3GG.
-Pygmy Kavu: for extra cards.
-Black Scarab: at the cost of W you can enchant any creature to get +2/+2 and become unblockable.
-Decomposition: to give your opponents creature a cultimative saccing cost and the lifeloss of 2 when it's put into the gy.
-Starlight: 3 life for every of your opponent's creas.
less useful for this, but still synergizing:
-Reap: to return some cards in your gy to your hand.
-Radiant Essence: to get a 3/5 crature for 1WG.

the following effects synergize with black creatures.
in case not all of your creatures are black, bad moon can turn the rest of them in the right color to be affected by the following cards:
-Lyzolda, the Blood Witch: to draw a card if you sacrifice your creature for 2. combined with Savra, Queen of the Golgari, you can have your opponent sacrifice one of his creatures every time given that you pay 2 life. yet since none of your creatures would be green, that's also some sort of dissonance.
-Crowd of Cinders: to grow in size
-one of the lieges (Ashenmoor Liege, Creakwood Liege, Deathbringer Liege, and Glen Elendra Liege) to boost your creatures p/t by one.
-Dire Undercurrents: to let your opponent discard a card whenever one of yours comes into play.
less useful:
-Bad Moon: to boost every creatures p/t by one.

Ok, I got a question, does a card like this and SINISTER STRENTH make a creature black in ADDITION to it's own color(s) or just strait black? Any site/spot that backs up the ruling? I need to know for the purposes of cards like Shield Of The Oversoul..

Cards that say such and such creature is a color make them that color ONLY. This card would make all other creatures black and nothing else.

@ AbyssalManZero
This would make all creature MONO-Black. If looking to use Shields, look at cards that specify "other color aswell" like Indigo Faerie. Otherwise, this and Sinister Strength are just making one color.

@Mode
Not sure if that would be trolling or filiabusting, but kudos for the info. the Teysa wouldn't work though. soon as the spirits are created, they turn black.

I dont see how the aforementioned Teysa, Orzhov Scion combo could work.
You NEED to sacrifice 3 WHITE creatures... how can they be white, if all creatures are black?

Tesya's own saccing outlet isn't any good, but you can go infinite with any other sac. Make an arbitrarily large Vampire Aristocrat, or simply mill your opponent's entire library with Altar of Dementia.

Great metal band. Useful card, too.

Does this card effect cards outside the battlefield?
My buddy thinks it does.

The best combo with Darkest Hour and Teysa is NOT for exile whenever you want. You need white creatures for that- the combo is with her second ability which, along with Darkest Hour, provides you with an endless supply of free flying chump blockers.

One of the cards that I really hate, back from a dark time of Magic. It does absolutely nothing on its own just like the Laces. The next natural thing that came me (and many others) was cards like Terror, but the only thing this does was preventing your opponent from Terroring your non-black creatures, and you even have to splash black for this - just about as narrow as a card gets.

One of the worst rares I'd name from its era.

Great trick with your creatures with protection from black. If you are playing w/b try Righteous War

@Venzef Creatures not on the battlefield are not creatures, they're cards. Darkest Hour will not affect them.

@ skorpionrazor

Think again Righteous War ...

Guess what color are your white creature after you drop darkest hour....

DUH, they are black now, so they gain protection of white, and all creature are black.

Beside sword to plowshare and path to exile, you didn't gain protection from much.

Akroma's Memorial
Devout Lightcaster
Mirran Crusader
Obsidian Acolyte
Whirling Dervish
Black Scarab
Exorcist
Honorable Scout
Lightbringer
Major Teroh

Just too many good interaction.

Darkest Hour, + Illness in the Ranks, + Blood Artist, + Teysa, Orzhov Scion

Every time a creature you control dies.... opponent loses a life, and you gain a life... plus create a 0/0 creature that instantly dies... repeat!

Tsabo's Assassin is an awesome combo with this card. Especially in EDH.
