This card is a lot of fun to accelerate an Variable Colorless casting cost or, even better, a storm card. Use Centaur Omenreader or Brighthearth Banneret to reduce his cost to only Red. Use another Red to bounce him and repeat until all your spare Red has turned into 2. Volcanic Awakening or Dragonstorm FTW! :D
Storm Entity or Ignite Memories might also work.
Don't forget that there's no mana burn in M10.
If you have to turn the mana back into color use Soulbright Flamekin, Seething Song, Manamorphose or Manaforge Cinder. :D

can grinning ignus ability be used from the graveyard?

@gingerbread09:
Pretty sure it has to say on the card that you can use it from the graveyard.

@iondragonx:
Imagine using that to power up a Fireball. Or with Ceaseless Searblades to pretty much make it an infinity/4 creature.

Electropotence + Grinning Ignus = {R}: deal 2 damage to target creature or player :-)

Yes, Alurenand this make for infinite mana, but have a Pandemonium or better yet a Balefire Liege for infinite damage. Scoopage!!

@RakshaGoldenCub

Braid of Fire adds mana during the upkeep phase, so it can't be used on 1) creatures without flash or 2) abilities that can only be cast when you can cast a sorcery.

I certainly hope this guy gets reprinted in Dark Ascension or the last set. He's too awesome to NOT be reprinted!

@Superllama12 & Lief098: Yes, you will be unstoppable with your non-infinite mana! With either Heartless Summoning or Semblance Anvil, the Ignus just reads:

Red: Add 2 to your mana pool, increase the Storm count by 1, and trigger all creature-relevant Leaves-the-Battlefield and Enters-the-Battlefield effects.

Now, add Skyshroud Elf and we'll reopen the discussion.

EDIT:
If you're feeling REALLY eccentric, try Life and Limb+Artificial Evolution/Conspiracy/Xenograft+Concordant Crossroads/Mass Hysteria/Fervor/Thousand-Year Elixir+Lotus Cobra
-OR-
Edgewalker+Conspiracy+Celestial Dawn (if your playgroup doesn't check Oracle).

Semblance Anvil.

EDIT:
@Ragamander
We know that Heartless Summoning and Semblance Anvil do not combo with this guy to make infinite mana; that was never the intent. Infinite combos, by nature, are incredibly dull. No, we were more concerned with the fact that, ignoring color, this combo effectively doubles your available mana while simultaneously increasing your storm count. There are a lot of very fun things you can do with this, not least of which is casting a Dragonstorm with 4 mountains to go get 4 Bogardan Hellkites (assuming you return the Ignus to your hand for the last 2Red).

Best buds with Storm Entity. Repeatedly drop Ignus, and suddenly you basically get an additional line on our dear friend: Multikicker Red: Put a +1/+1 counter on this creature.

Great with Cinder Pyromancer: you return it to your hand for Red, then play it again with the mana it gives you. Whenever you do this, the Pyromancer untaps and you get to ping someone again.

Stuff like this is what made Future Sight such a lovable block (for Johnny at least).
It's great with Animar, as Eyeballfrog said.

Haze of Rage and some tokens make this card very interesting :)

Combine the new Rakados, Lord of Riots for lots of mana.

Also reads:
{R}: Boost storm count by one.

It already lets you cast a 2/2 creature for effectively {R} for the purposes of triggering things like Warstorm Surge, Pandemonium, or indeed Storm count. It's a one card engine, which is always fun.

I think my favorite combo with this card is actually just Door of Door of Destinies I have a mono-red edh deck that's elemental tribal. If this thing drops with the door out or Pandemonium or Warstorm Surge things get very bad for the opponents.

Heartless Summoning + Grinning Ignus + any X spell = you win :)

Wow, this really looks like it belongs in Innistrad block, from the background to the flavor text.

T4 inferno titan. Card neutral to perform, and likely becomes card advantage that may well win the game for you right there.

With Smokebraider you can have 4 mana T3 instead. T3 Flametongue?

Pretty sick. Lets you trade a mana disadvantage this round for a serious advantage next round. I dig it!

Okay.... This+heartless summoning+glimpse of nature
Infinite colorless mana and infinite draw on turn 3 with a good hand. I think I'm gonna go make a deck now. Also the combo is immune to creature removal because it can be bounced in response to a kill spell!
Too bad there's no blue In the combo for card filtering.
