kind of useless in such a monocoloured tribe.

@Forgeling: The great thing about Magic is that the cards can be mixed up and put into different decks. So, you can put a snake in, say, an elemental deck.

A clearly improved update of Viridian Acolyte which appeared just two sets earlier in Darksteel.

I disagree with the first posters here.. this is one of the best mana fixing cards ever. It only takes 1 mana, and then it can produce any color mana from your green mana, which you already have or you couldn't play your orochi in first place. Taking a closer look at the ability, one will notice an important detail, it doesn't require tapping. That means later in the game, you can use this orochi to produce any number of other colored mana from forests or any green mana producer to play anything else. You have 10 green mana? Now it can be 10 any color mana.

also, sweetestsadist makes an important point, the fact that the orochi is a shaman is a big advantage, it can be used with sachi to produce green mana via tap later in the game.

i never understood why this was a common, joiner adept was rare, and why people got their rocks off of birds of paradise. this is instant mana fixing, all you have to do is run green in your deck, no weird pain in the @$$ mana fetching, pain lands, or stupid 0/1 flying creatures that only add ONE color of mana to you mana pool.

i played this in a bringer deck along with fist of suns, channel the suns, etc. so i could play anything for rainbow at any time because i ALWAYS had the mana for it. yes, i still had some mana fetching for those "just in case" moments, but for the most part the deck revolved around this lil snake letting me use my forest for whatever i want, whenever i want.

Ok Noobs Heres How It Is, Joiner Adept Is Much Beter Than Orochi Leafcaller Because First Off You Can Only Run Four Of Theese(Like Everything) And If Your Using Her For The Right Reasons You Need Her Early Game But Unlike Orochi You Can Fix Your Mana Pool Accordingly Assumiung You Dont Get Her With The Shaman You Need Forests And If You Dont Have Him In Play Your Fusion Elemental Progenitus Or Whatever Are Total Dead Cards And Pyroclasm And Wrath Pick His Ass Right Off. The End

I find this card incredibly useful in my Sachi, Daughter of Seshiro-powered red/green mana engine deck. Doesn't matter if you don't have too many mountains (if any) on the battlefield as this card allows you to use Kumano, Master Yamabushi to his full potential.

This combo hurts, and my deck brings it out all the time.

This, Sachi, Daughter of Seshiro, and Freed from the Real. I lost to this and a Fireball in a tournament once, after which I have kept this combo in mind. Basically you put Freed from the Real on Sachi and use her manna ability to give you 2 green, leafcaller it up and give yourself at least one blue so you can untap Sachi. Was, Rinse, Repeat. Even if you wanted to only use Freed as the only blue in your deck, it really mixes well with Helix Pinnacle to give you the Hundred manna needed. Spawnsire? Got your twenty manna right here. This combo is the cure to all your manna needs.

Another great way to ensure your Myr Superion hits the board. Especially nice since you only need one of these out to do it.

Could you imagine if this were something with a massive tribal backing like elves, humans, or even a Red/Green goblin with a Manamorphose ability much like how Vexing Shusher is like Guttural Response

Thing about this is, it makes mana, but it doesn't make mana. You know what I mean?

Allows you to throw in Sorin's Vengeance in a mono green deck. Lol.

I like this a lot better than Mycosynth Lattice. Sure, that one is an artifact, not a creature, and is easier to get rid of, but put indestructibility on it and as long as you have a bunch of green mana, which is not hard if you've ever played with a combo deck, you have Mycosynth Lattice for 5 mana and an indestructible creature to block with.
