BRO•Maz King of Kittehs.
Going in token lists everywhere.
In Standard currently (RTR/M14/THS), Boros Reckoner may not give up the slot just yet - or - just might be friends in the same build.

I remember seeing a comment saying someone tried to type in his name and came up with Burger King of Oreos. XD

Anyway, this card is nuts. Its stats are above the curve, and having that ability on a 3 drop is nuts. It doesn't die to the new black removal (Bile Blight and Drown in Sorrow), makes it so you don't have to overextend into Supreme Verdict, etc. Definitely a player in Standard, maybe older formats but I won't hold my breath.

The only downside is that they're $30 bucks a piece right now. :(

There isn't much to say about this card that hasn't all ready been said, so Ill say this:

I find it amusing that the 1/1 blocker has vigilance, because 1/1's so often survive combat

Because white obviously needed more tokens.

I like this card, though. I can see it being played...

... well, in pretty much any deck with white. You don't even need to build around token generation for it to be good.

Hello, Thundercat of Bladehold. How terrible to see another poorly tested card like you released into the world of money Magic.

On a note closer to coming to terms with it, it could be the pseudo 4+ power 3-drop Modern hatebears has been yearning to run next to Loxodon Smiter. I actually like the idea of a vigilant-token producer, as long as it doesn't have battle cry (and isn't otherwise OP).

Teacher: Now children, this is why 3/4 vigilant kitties for 3 mana need to have drawbacks. Have you all learned your lesson?
Johnny: What about the two white mana symbols? That makes him hard to cast. That's a drawback, right?
Teacher: JOHNNY, GO SIT IN THE CORNER UNTIL YOU CAN TELL ME WHAT'S KEEPING MONOWHITE DEVOTION FROM BEING A THING IN STANDARD.
Timmy: But he's legendary! That's a drawback!
Teacher: TIMMY, GO TO THE EDH RULES COMMITTEE'S OFFICE.

This is one of those cards where the question isn't "Should I put this in my deck?", but "What deck should I put him in?". Does he go best in mono-white? Mostly white but with red for Purphoros? Bant? Something else?

The flavor of a king who has his subjects help him in everything he does is just beautiful. I hope we see this as a repeating mechanic (maybe pay 1{W}) and have it be rare or uncommon - in future sets.

It's powerful, but I fear His Royal Catness still won't make Mono-white devotion a thing in Standard. Even with Reckoner, Heliod, and other strong white cards, Mono-white simply does not have the tools to compete in a world where BLUE can make tokens FOR FREE and black can drain life and draw cards and remove creatures with impunity. Red, white, and green are all trying to play fair in this standard format and the "unfair" colors have much stronger tools at their disposal. Which is fine. Green and red dominated the last standard cycle (INN-RTR blocks) and people complained back then that black and blue were being rudely pushed around.

All this to say that, while Brimaz looks impressive, I don't foresee the format changing enough to make him much more than an over-priced preorder and another seemingly all-powerful three drop in a color that has nothing to do with him.

Ah the pushed money mythic of this set. Magic really devolves into buying the staple cards each set and building a deck arround those.

I mean sure, 3/4s for 3 Mana that produce (possibly) several tokens are absolutely balanced and can be found on any other rarity than mythic rare...
And he is totally on the power level of the other cards of this set!

People keep complaining about the 1/1s he generates.... when {W} has some of the best mass - pump / protection cards around:

Brave the Elements - Gives you protection, making sure your 1/1s will survive combat or potentially become unblockable if you're on the attack.
Frontline Medic - Gives you indestructible creatures.
Path of Bravery - Gives a conditional +1/+1, and the lifegain can swing games (although life gain is more important in a control-style deck).
Spear of Heliod - Gives a permanent +1/+1 to everything.

...and that's just doing a quick search of what's available in standard right now...

I don't see it.

I mean, yeah, I do, it's a Limited bomb and a token EDH general and maybe monowhite devotion might be a thing, yadda yadda yadda. And I'm definitely not dismissing him for dumb, tournament-playing Spike reasons like "he dies to removal"; I'm a pretty casual player who makes janky decks with 50 cent rares and brings them to FMN and puts Narstad Scrappers in EDH decks for the flavor. So how do I put this? Umm...

If you ever watched Naruto, remember how Gaara was hot sh*t in a champagne glass when he first showed up in the Chuunin exams, but by Naruto Shippuden it was just like "Oh, so yeah he's just one of dozens of super-badasses floating around this world" and he wasn't such a big deal anymore? Or like how Mewtwo was SOOOOO amazing when you first played Pokemon Red/Blue but at this point legendary Pokemon are so plentiful they might as well just give them out in gift bags at children's birthday partiesl?

Yeah, it's kinda like that. Welcome to the good card club Brimaz. You're number 3,132. Take a seat, I'll get to you whenever.

It's cool but I get the impression that it is rather overhyped. I could be wrong, wouldn't surprise me if I am...

It's not quite as bad as Hero, the fact that it doesn't grant any bonus to tokens it summons balances it a bit. The other thing that excludes it from the "broken hurr durr" cards that become the cornerstones of standard is the timing. Spear is legal but there are few other army buff enchantments in theros. There are, however, a number of very strong support cards for this in RTR block. The battalion alone breaks this. My question is what will happen after RTR? Either way, I did pull one and I will be trying it out, will rate it once I am satisfied with my results.

You may have read my comment already on Thoughtseize. If you have, it's the exact same thing.

I apologize for copying this massively long comment, but I just want to share this theory with others and see if you'll agree. In fact, I believe Brimaz might be affected by what I'm talking about.

I have heard many comments on cards like Fleecemane Lion and Prophet of Kruphix, wondering why the cards are rated so low.
It's not because those cards are not played. It's because someone is purposely doing this.

I have noticed this trend when a new set comes out. Initially, everyone clamours to give great cards high ratings. And then, after a few weeks after it has been released, card ratings plummet.

Snapcaster, initially 4.7 stars out of 5, was once 4.1. Geist of Saint Traft, initially 4.5/5, was 3.9/5. Boros Reckoner was 3.7/5. Thragtusk was below 4 stars for a while.
All of these cards were heavily played in Standard because they are good.

In short, someone's changing how they're perceived. I think someone has made 20-30 gatherer accounts and purposely down-rates cards.

If you check now, their ratings are higher. That's because over time, normal people go to rate the card based on how good they think it is. That person can't cast another vote unless they make more accounts.

If you look at the new Commander Pre-con legendaries (Derevi, Nekusar, etc.), you'll notice they're no longer rated higher than 4 stars. In fact, they are around 3.7 stars. I'd bet my True-Name Nemesis that those cards' ratings will go back up to 4+ stars in a year.

My theory is that this person wants discourage casual players from buying more expensive cards, thus, lowering demand. Think about it: If you see a card that's 3.7 stars, would you be more enticed to buy it than one that's 4.0 or more? What if you noticed the 3.7 star card is $10, and the 4.0 is $0.50? You wouldn't want the $10 card.

This is all speculation. I have no proof of this nor do I know who's responsible.

But if you've read this far, please read a little further. I want to test my theory.

I want you to check the rares when the next set come out. Notice how the ratings go. Do a general search of the set, then order them via community rating. See who's on top. Notice the good cards. Then check back in a few weeks and check the ratings. Compare those cards with other cards with similar ratings. See how many people have rated on the once-good card and the other similarly rated.

If this trend stops, then I am just crazy and the down-voters are just illogical people. However, I feel there's a greater force at hand here.

Thank you for reading.

I think the more likely explaination, Ferlord, is that people get angry with wizards for producing such overpowered cards and purposely rate them low. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to do so, but people are petty.

I think that this is just fine. Pushed - definitely. Powerful - obviously. It could even be a little broken, but that's fine. No protection or evasion (other than the kitty he brings along - which is a bit like a really weak trample...) means that this is a fine aggro card but wont mutilate standard.

the fact that you can't cheat him into play with Preeminent Captain bums me out a little, sure he produces tokens that tag along for an extra point of damage but for the price .. not worth it. I dont know how he will do in standard, I don't play. He will be great for a classic white weenies deck. He's fairly strong for the price, he generates tokens. You CAN cheat him in with preeminent captain. I don't know why that other guy said you couldn't. He is a soldier creature. Being a cat or legendary doesn't invalidated that. Honestly what isn't there to like about this guy. He is a 3/4 for 3, with vigilance, that generates tokens. He might as well be a 4/4. Better if you can keep the tokens alive. And he even has on of the most supported creature types. Really a 5/5 for me. You may not think he deserves that high a rating. That is why this site uses an average score.

Its like a modern version of Jedit Ojanen of Efrava

Similarities.
Both are cats, one warrior, one soldier.
Both have a primary ability that produces tokens when they attack or block.
Both are obviously leaders of territory.

Differences
Mana Cost 1WW vs 3GGG. Green can ramp into it, but white will probably hard cast Brimaz first.
Power/Toughness Jedit and his tokens have more power and toughness than Brimaz and his tokens.

I would love to see an EDH match of them fighting against, it’s a shame there isn’t a GW legendary cat.

Awesome card to play with; he has so many possibilities. I want to try him with Aurelia, the Warleader, my favorite, but I imagine a white weenie token devotion deck would be fun to do.

However, my only experience with him so far has been pulling him in a draft last night, and as soon as it was known I had one, it drew immediate hate. I think I maybe had no more than two turns with him on average, and most folks had some answer for it immediately. In fact, he drew more hate than my Heliod, God of the Sun(who didn't last long either). However, even with all that, he was still quite fun to use as a deterrent.

Bromaz + Sigil Captain + Doubling Season.

Turn 3: Kitty King. Maybe get yourself a 1/1 on your opponent's turns

Turn 4: Sigil Captain. You may now attack and get your 3/3 kitty, and block for more if you want, although they probably won't attack now.

Turn 5: Doubling Season. Now you get 2 cats per attack, and each one gets twice the +1/+1 counters. Swing in with your new 5/5 pets.

I'm still not really sold on this card. On the other hand, I'm looking at it from a strictly Standard perspective. The cat soldier is very easy to block and is pretty much always going to get blocked unless the opponent simply has 0 creatures. On defense, if the blocked creature can't kill Brimaz, the token is always going to get killed, or else Brimaz will get killed, and at that point, you can forget the stupid token. With that said, barring some pretty fancy trickery and/or synergy, Brimaz is a 3/4 on offense and a 4/4 on defense. Big whup! I guess we'll just have to wait and see what kind of synergies people come up with. I'm just not seeing it with the current Standard.

Actually, the more I think about it, the more I think this Mythic is sort of a step in the right direction (...?)
At least he isn't nearly impossible to kill like the geist. It also isn't a win-more game-thrower like the obliterator or baneslayer, you still have to build around Brimaz at least a little bit.
This type of mythic is better than those ones Wizards. I thank you for that.
Thank you also for making him legendary, as anything on this power level should be.
Maybe I would change his casting cost to WhiteWhiteWhite or give him one less toughness, but all-in-all it is a close call.
Not bad. I think I will rate this one 4.5/5 because you are on the right track.
Thanks again for not making this one hexproof or game-obliterating.

Brimaz actually isn't THAT strong, it's just that wizards is clearly trying to tone down the powerlevel of cards which makes Brimaz stand out. Look at the useless crap that's come out of Born of the Gods and Dragon's Maze and you'll see a general downgrade in powerlevel of the cards.

In creature-based matchups he's just a good card. But he actually cannot attack through a loxodon smiter, a fellow 3-CMC creature. It can never beat Polukranos. And so on. It will get outclassed quickly. It's no thragtusk or restoration angel. It's really only to smash control decks because that's where making multiple creatures is useful so that the control deck has to either sweep or play multiple 1-for-1 removal spells, and it's a decent brick wall when against aggro decks.

Brimaz will be good in standard and will see little play in modern and almost no play in EDH.

3/4 vigilance for 3....... This is why I dont touch competitive magic. This card is a freaking staple beater required if you want to compete. It outclasses by miles any other 3 drop and its at mythic rare.

Basically they design cards, then shave off 1 or 2 Cmc from the money makers. Its cool if your willing to shell out big bucks because they shaved off a cmc to make it broken, but I will stick with kitchen table top. Can always proxy if I want to feel the wallet warrior power.

To put things in perspective, even if Bazaar Krovod costed 2 less, this guy would still be subjectivity much stronger.

As much as this guy is pushed and seemingly stupidly broken, he's actually not THAT bad. Creatures are constantly pushing towards powerful ETB effects combined with good P/T or good P/T combined with insane protective abilities like hexproof or protection.

This guy is basically a vanilla beater with no protection. He does nothing when he enters play and has to wait a turn before he does anything. To me, this guy is kind of like power creep for vanilla beaters since they slowly become more and more useless.

With that said, he is still quite busted and I'm surprised they'd print something like this (why not a 3/3? for example).

Anyway, he will be good in my Tajic EDH deck and helps me lower the curve quite a bit. He's got cool art, a cool name, and it always feels good to just beat the crap out of stuff with this guy.
