I'll take the added removal risk compared to Glorious Anthem for that ability.

This is SO going in my mono-white weenie EDH deck. Love it.

So the Anthem can't stack, but you have a sweet defensive ability. Should be ok in standard and very good in EDH.

Any damage, not just combat.

Remember Vorthoses, this is the spear that can strike any point on Theros. Provided that point has successfully assaulted you in the recent past.

@SpaceMagic
Or you know, has hexproof or something via some Sea Magic (Benthic Giant).

Welp, Glorious Anthem is in standard again. And it's legendary. And vulnerable to artifact removal. But can kill creatures that have already hurt you this turn. Yay?

Like most of "the weapons," this combos pretty well with its respective God
I like the flavor except that last line of flavor text. "even the depths of the underworld" really shouldn't be on a card that doesn't interact any way save beneficially with graveyards. Maybe exile? That way you could exile a card that dealt damage to you and died - making the flavor text relevant.
Still - good card.

I like everything about it except..... "...this turn." Think about it: You have to keep three mana open on the offhand chance that a creature will damage you. This ability will usually slow your deck down because if you use your mana to cast spells that aren't instants then you are going to be tapped-out when this damage is getting dealt and by the time you untap it will be too late to smite your foe with this amazing looking spear. (And there is that whole bit about having to let yourself take damage in the first place too....) I guess it balances????? Glorious Anthem with bad removal tacked on that can be removed by things that destroy artifacts?
My revised take on this: Casting cost First ability stays Second ability ~ : Destroy target creature that has dealt damage to you during this game. (Maybe also: Spear of Heliod can destroy creatures that are indestructible.)
Problems solved: Glorious anthem isn't shut-out. Despite the high costs this thing is still truly powerful and doesn't require you to keep three mana untapped when you think damage is coming.

A Limited nightmare, if the board is at parity, this just reads "I win." You have to gain a crazy level of advantage to beat the spear and even then they just pick your best guys off one by one. Black gets no good removal in this set and white gets excellent recurring removal. Modern Magic sucks so very, very hard.
Edit: Also, seems like the No Mercy effect is offically white now. It was black up to Lorwyn (Dread), became Orzhov in Return to Ravnica block (Executioner's Swing, Teysa) and is now finally white. Tsk tsk white, beating even black in terms of mercilessness.

This thing can combo with Heliod quite effectively. If, for whatever reason they just happen to get past your 3/2 clerics (and your sphere of safety, which you should be running) then you can just strike down the little unblockable/intimidate what have you. If not, then you can use the open mana you have to make more clerics at the end of their turn, making it even more difficult to get to you. It's awesome, and I would very much like to make a devotion deck with that idea in mind.
Actually, the amount of slowdown that offers a control deck would be pretty spectacular. I almost see a Spear, Heliod, and Sphere sandwich as a viable mid-game lockup. Turn 3: Spear Turn 4: Heliod Turn 5: Sphere, which would automatically require a attacking cost.
I wouldn't mind using Medomai, the Ageless on turn 6 to cause some real trouble.

Meh, meh, again I say meh. Yeah, it's a good card, but it comes nowhere near the power of the whip or the bow.

Purphoros, God of the Forge: OW! Why do you keep throwing that thing at me whenever I damage your favorite planeswalker pet when you know darn well I'm immortal? Heliod, God of the Sun: It's fun, and I could always use the target practice. Purphoros: YOU-DAMMIT!

This thing is just busted in limited. Hope you can get 20 in with spammable removal while all your opponents monsters are pumped.
