Why is this rated so low. The way I see it, almost everything with "indestructible" on it somewhere is worth playing. Especially if it's an artifact. Sure, this is hard to play, but once you do, someone's going to have to answer it with some specialized removal, otherwise you have a foreverblocker that can dish out 3 damage a turn. Worth it.

It's rated low because a flying 3/3 isn't worth seven mana. Even if it is indestructible.

The only ways your opponents can do to get rid of this bad-ass is either: 1) Make the owner sacrifice it, 2) Put -1/-1 counters to wither it down, or 3) Have it under your control with Confisgate, or other blue/black mechanics.

All the more to say, if you own it, this card is an annoyance to your opponent nevertheless.

Why is this rated so highly? It's a 3/3 dude for 7? What do you want to do with it? Attack? Even if it would not get blocked this dude deals only 3 damage a turn, compare that to what other 7 mana creatures can dish out. Or block? A 7 mana wall?
And you can still exile it, have it sacrificed, -1/-1countered, bounced, stolen, shuffled into it's owners library, put on top of it's owners library or put a lousy pacifism on it.
I'll give it 1.5/5

If only he had affinity, hah. As it is, I'd rather use a wall, since no one would try to destroy a wall anyway, and it could block a lot earlier than this guy (about the only thing he's good for by the time you and your opponent have around 7 mana, in general).

I think Wizards overestimated the power of indestructibility.

cool art, but with all the exile removal in all metagames of magic, this guy has few homes.

@majinara

You can do that to Baneslayer Angel too. Just because it CAN be gotten rid of doesn't make it bad. That's proof that someone is an ignorant player. "Oh, I can get rid of that!" "Yeah. Cool. Woopie." All I'm saying is, you can get rid of any card. That doesn't make it bad.

It's worth noting that the time this was printed there were very few cards that exiled creatures. It was also one of the first Indestructible creatures ever printed and they couldn't yet be sure how powerful a keyword it was, so it's only natural that they would err on the side of caution and run up the casting cost in case it turned out to be inherently broken. Not so much a bad card as just a very dated one.

But majinari is kinda right, this card is just way overcosted. Yes, you can do it to BSA. BSA is 5 mana and actually does something to the board. This just kinda sits there and sucks. So if they get rid of BSA, they killed your creature, so what. If they don't, you win. Here, it doesn't do ANYTHING if it survives. I don't wanna be a hater, but this card is just jank.

To all of you posting comments on here, Darksteel is an old set, which funnily enough really pioneered the 'Indestructable' ability. As at the time this was a new/ish ability with few cards that could deal with it compared to modern sets, this was a good card. Don't go saying 'ah but you can exile it, put -1/-1 counters on it' etc when at the time these were rare abilities. Sure you can put Pacifism etc. on it but you can't use that against it when there was no 'Shroud' when this card came out. Common sense people, don't judge a card in the first set featuring an ability by saying that it's pricey - /facepalm at you lot!

People still seem to be underestimating this card. It's not 7 mana because it is indestructible and has evasion. It is 7 mana because it's colorless and every deck can cast it. Face the facts: All artifact creatures cost more because they can be played in any color. It is rare that you will get a "good deal" since that creates an unbalance in the game. Hence you get borderline overpowered cards like Wurmcoil Engine. That card could have easily cost 7 mana and still seen play in standard.

Now to be fair, Darksteel Gargoyle is no Wurmcoil Engine. But it does have it's uses. It's indestructibility allows it to survive wraths - And by that I mean your own board wipes. And if its power is underwhelming to you, you should realize that they have equipments out there that can fix that. Darksteel Gargoyle equipped with Darksteel Axe is nothing to laugh at if you are unprepared.

People also tend to forget that there is a thing called mana accelleration. Some people act as if turn seven is the only way to get this guy out. A couple turns and a few Cloudposts and you may catch your opponents with their pants down.

Overall, I give this card a 3.5/5. It's not terribly great, but it can win you games through all the harrassment it provides.

I really wish I knew what was going on in the picture.

Guys, it's seven mana, because it can Worldslayer and it has Flying, something no other indestructible card of the time could boast. This doesn't sound like much, but in perspective of the times it came from, it was worth it. I play Darksteel Sentinel, who is same P/T for one less; a better card no doubt, but I'd say definitely comparable.

And really, could we clean up the language here? BankSlayer wasn't designed to be a standard to compare other card's power levels to. That's why it's a mythic rare, even if that means nothing to you people. It's the exception, and if you judge average power by comparing it to something exceptional, you'll be disappointed every time.

@majinara

On almost every card you post (creatures and equipments and such), you make the same arguement that equipments are inherently bad because the creature can be killed and ______ creature is bad because it "dies to (any card that kills it)." While this isn't the best card, of COURSE there are answers to it. If there weren't, Magic would be a race to see who gets X or Y first. Are instants and sorceries bad because you only get one use (ignoring flashback and the like)? Just because a card can be killed or countered or have all its effects negated, it doesnt make it terrible. Can you name ONE card that doesnt have an answer to it?

This card is great. Artifacts+ blue acceleration = cmc doesn't matter in fact higher is better for many cards whose abilities depend on cmc.

I love the Text for this card. I even bought a Transformer that seems to be inspired by this card (and its 15 or so "cousins").

But does anyone other than me wish there was new/different art for Darksteel Gargoyle?

In general, people just pay way, WAY too much attention to cmc/pt ratios on creatures, and that blinds them to how useful these "bad" creatures can be. Darksteel Gargoyle is much better than people think it is. First of all, since it is indestructible, its toughness is basically infinity in most cases. Second of all, YES it dies to CERTAIN TYPES OF REMOVAL but some players DON'T USE THOSE TYPES. This survives almost all of green's removal cards (Plummet, Beast Within, Naturalize, Krosan Grip, etc.), a lot of black's removal cards ("destroy" effects), and just about every single red removal card (except for Apocalypse and Worldfire of course). This gargoyle is a LOT less wimpy than people make it out to be. It's basically a Dawn Elemental that doesn't die to Plummet or black destroy effects and can be used in any color (though it costs three more). There are better 7-drops, but don't underestimate what this thing can do.
