Renounce the Guilds is a side deck card at best for standard. It is possible to face mono decks or decks with a lot of mono permanents in it. Plus this card can hurt you as well. Some positives are that it can take out any permanent and it does not target. 2.5/5.

Pretty good in Commander. Most people there play multicolored decks, so it can kill, for just two mana at instant speed, a few Commanders more often than not. Sometimes you can also use it, to kill pesky stuff such as Mirari's Wake.

WOW, literally everyone on Gatherer so far is underrating this card and missing all the cool things to say about it?!? o.O
OK, here is the list:
It is Innocent Blood in White, and it's better because it's hits more things. Everything you ever did with that can be done with this.
It is Defiler of Souls in White, and it's better because it hits faster.
It is Defiler of Souls crossed with Innocent Blood, in White, and every comment about Sacrificing that people ever made is relevant to this card. It's not difficult to abuse with Thopter Foundry. It's no Sword of the Meek, but if you wanted the very first non-creature multicolored permanent I thought about using, there's that.
I get that the restriction on it causes it to not be a 5-star card, but you are all talking like it's somehow lackluster when it's clearly 3.5-4 stars?! o.o
Or did all of you seriously just each think of your favorite format, note the few things it does there, and then move along? -_- Think about ALL formats, and a few things per format x all the formats = an actually nice Rare to open. :)
I like the idea of trying to axe Progenitus in Modern, Legacy, and Vintage with it. Oh yeah. It might be the best card to beat Progenitus with. It might be somewhat weaker against things ....that you already have plenty of Different Answers for- but it gets rid of the things that Hitherto have been Tough to get Rid Of! The Commanders, the Planeswalkers, and Progenitus will learn to be wary of {1}{W} open, I think.
"Some positives are that it can take out any permanent and does not target"....ummm whut are u smoking. :P Because that sounds like more than "Some Positives" to me -_- Yes. People will be playing some mono-colored stuff in their decks, of course.
Pro-Tip: Sacrifice something of yours of less value than what you are forcing them to sacrifice by the timing of your casting and the way you built and played your deck. This thing is easily as good as Doom Blade, it just takes more skill to use effectively. So, in essence, all of you people's comments amount to:
"It makes me think? I hate it."

As always, white gets an effect it doesn't deserve.

Admittedly, if they have multiple multi-color permanents, you're not QUITE as likely to get the effect you want. So, in the environments that will permit it (i.e. not Standard or Modern), perhaps add Heaven's Gate or Sway of Illusion? As long as they haven't gone silly with hexproof, shroud, and/or protection, their choice of sacrificables just got a lot narrower (and YOUR multicolors are suddenly nowhere to be seen by RtG).

@Smoke_Stack: It doesn't target players either. Is something still sideboard material if it's useful more than half the time?

ravnica is infested with multicolored creatures, you know? and saint traft is multicolored mind you.

This card served me well at the prerelease. I was always able to come off on top with this card. One time I swung my centaur healer in to trade with some mono colored card. Then since I no longer had any multicolored permanents I was able to use this to take out my opponent's multicolored creature.

Sideboard, schmideboard. I want to build a mono-white deck and run four of these for lolz. Might actually work, too. Facing RDW? This hits Reckoner. UW control? Bye bye, Traft.
Yeah, going to have to at least try it.

@significant_Otter: yes it does. Geist is multicolored, this targets players therefore they have to sac Geist. This is an amazing sideboard card.
Lorendorky: this does not work against Griselbrand. he is mono black.
people! READ! IT HELPS YOU KNOW WHAT THE CARD DOES!!
edit: @blindthrall. I would only include this card in the face of Geist of Saint Traft or a walker like Nicol Bolas, most likely during game 2 when I knew that was their plan of action (even then, against a walker I's rather play Dreadbore). Against any other creature I would just play regular removal and move on with my life. Why put it in Maindeck just to deal with Loxodon Smiter or something that can be killed any old way?

Don't know how this has a low rating. Amazing against Geist or Reckoner in control mirrors becoming basically target removal.

I think this is a great card, though it seems like it would have been more appropriate for it to be only an uncommon. A one-sided, 2cmc white removal spell--an edict at that--seems pretty good to me. I can see main decking this card in a mono white deck. It can eliminate kill pesky Geist of St. Traft, Loxodon Smiter, Detention Sphere and others. You can even play it with Voice of Resurgence so even if you have to sacrifice you still get some value out of it, though playing this against the same card is pretty bad.
Run this is Esper Control. The only permanent that ever hits your side of the board is Aetherling.

This card is way better than people give it credit. This is prime board material with all the Geist of Saint Traft and Falkenrath Aristocrats running around in Standard.

@werdwood93 lol I thought you didn't know lands were colourless, and then I realised you were talking about the poor casuals. Coalition victory used to be so OP!
This card is pretty cool, but I find it hard to like since it feels like such a sideboard card. It might still make its way into my Tajic duel commander deck because geist of saint traft is really popular in it, and basically everyone runs a multi-coloured general.
Could have been uncommon, but the gold set symbol kind of adds to the art :P

Should be two or three colorless. Edit: there were 7 in the top 8 Pro Tour DGM 2013 four mainboard in one deck and three mainboarded in the other.

@ striker2a2112 no, all lands are colorless unless an effect says they have a color is this supposed to be mainboard or sideboard?
