Obviously hideously powerful. Ever block with a death touch creature? Ever see an opponent sacrifice something worth? Ever use Grave Pact?

Very playable, will probably be worth splashing black for. Note that it's also anti-removal and allows you to use a sac-effect to get a repeat ETB trigger.

It's an Instant version of Unhallowed Pact. You don't have to pick a target ahead of time, forewarn your opponent that you have it, or leave it vulnerable to enchantment removal. The only downside is that you need to have the mana available on the turn the creature dies. Overall a better card than its aura predecessor.

This is absolutely crazy. Just Doom Blade something, then steal it with this. It's also useful to recur your own stuff if it gets removed or if you need to bring back something you just sacrificed to a Falkenrath Aristocrat or something.

Favorite card of the set. Finally, instant, low-costed recursion!

Sure, I'll gladly take anything you gave up on your side of the field when you used Supreme Verdict!

This card is pretty incredible.

I'm not insulting this card or anything, but I really don't get how a rare version of Rise from the Grave that has to be used at that very moment and can't be used in any re-animator shenanigans is all that impressive. What's the deal?

I can just imagine that someone out there will doomblade their own worldspine wurm just to bring it back with this.

Great card with great art that's delightfully unsettling. What's not to love?

I don't like it much. It's another Craterize; but at least I understand why in this case.
Please don't play this in any format where you're allowed to play Reanimate, or Animate Dead, or Victimize... please, allow yourself to have fun without jumping through seven hoops.

It's like Undying Evil+, since you can also target your opponent's creature which you just Doom Bladed.

This card is just bad - it is just very situational and is incredibly difficult to get more value than what you're paying for. Often times it will just sit in your hand and not do anything.

Wouldn't you rather just have another decent creature to cast instead? Why wait for one to die to get into play when you can just play any number of flash creatures for the same cost. Seems crazy to me.

Even in Duels 2014, this card is almost always bad. I can't even imagine how bad it will be in Standard. It obviously will never see play in modern. Graceful Reprieve has it beat as far as efficiency is concerned. It's not like that card sees any play either.

A fun but clunky card if used after playing Liturgy of Blood.
Really good in so many other ways though.

@RiftenBlack

You seem to have gotten the point of this card wrong. This isn't for use on your creatures (though that is an option, one I'm glad we have) but rather on opponents.

Graceful Reprieve is the version for only you yes, but the point is quite different (As different as white and black if you will). As mentioned on earlier comments, snagging one creature after a boardwipe for the advantage is a thing, or blocking a fatty with a deathtoucher. Maybe simply doomblading their Archangel of Thune for a limited example. You get to grab something much more potent than what you put in, only for the low price of killing it. And if you're not playing removal, why are you running this card?

As a final not, most flash creatures in the game are rather lackluster right now, and I can't even list a black example in standard. To me this is an amazing black card, that just needs to be there at the right time. A 4 of? No. A potent surprise? Definitely.

In Duels of the Planeswalkers 2014, I'm having a lot of fun with this and Archaeomancer in my sealed deck. Pretty much 3 mana 'super regenerate', but also lets me get a different spell out (ie. Time Warp) if I no longer need to keep recurring the 'mancer on future turns. Also works well with Rune-Scarred Demon, who is a prime candidate to get Murdered after I cast him.

Obviously works well with any creature with a decent ETB. Titans are a prime example. Imagine this on Wurmcoil Engine. Block a creature, trade with it, get your two Wurms, get your Wurmcoil Engine back. You've already killed on creature for one card, and next turn thanks to two deathtouchers you should be able to kill two.

I must work out how to break this further in casual... >:-3

The best creature on the field, no matter who owns it, will have a high probability of being removed and this answers that miraculously. 4/5.

JaxsonBateman: this one's for you :3

A nice combo with this card is to help enable the
Bladewing the Risen + Scourge of Valkas combo in EDH.

Bladewing is not exactly super-ubiquitous, but it certainly has a fan-following, Dragons are a super popular Creature type and have a lot of ''Good in EDH'' cards anyway, and a pretty large number of {B}/{R} EDH decks will be running Bladewing. Not all of them, but there are just so many other Commanders that like him, like Nicol Bolas, Karrthus, my own precious Kaalia, and Malfegor + Bladewing + Rakdos the Defiler share a curious affinity for each other because of cross-tribal relevancies.

There are EDH decks that will be playing the right colors and even be running some number of dragons that eschew Bladewing...but not many. He is very, very well placed as a card to make both Grim Return and actually even Praetor's Grasp a bit more relevant. >=D

Grim Return was probably already good without this, but I'm sure Praetor's Grasp is very grateful, since that card has a lot of upside, but it IS difficult to find situations to actually maximize it.

This really goes well with a lot of black's kill and sacrifice effects. I love it, seems like a ton of fun.

Oh, and that art. That girl will be haunting my nightmares.

How does this work with modular?
If you have one creature with modular. Can you cast this in response to the Modular trigger and have the creature return with the counters it died with?

"from the battlefield" ruins this card.

Good for casual I suppose.

I think this is a highly overrated card.
I tried playing with it in DOTPW 2014 and it stayed in my hand most of the time or was a dead draw.
Play with it and you will see what I mean.
Drecon84
☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
@jamesdoakes: That doesn't work. Once the creature with Modular dies you can put it's Modular ability on the stack, targeting an artifact creature. The creature just put in your graveyard is not in play and can thus not be targeted with the ability.

Use in mill decks after milling them a ton to steal their biggest fatty in there

I love the artwork on this card, truly Black. The battlefield clause lowers it's power but it's still a strong card. 4/5.

Powerful againstnany type of Dredge Deck... Gifts Ungiven.. Low casting cost vs other reanimation spells... This card is solid. You can main deck and sideboard this into any deck that splashes black...

The artwork is very well done... It illustrates the card perfectly...

Doesn't work with mill. It specifically says "a creature in a graveyard that was put there FROM THE BATTLEFIELD".

You guys are all thinking so big, I think you gotta think small...like black weenie small. Swarms of small deathtouchy creatures aggro attacking away and either coming back from the dead or taking big blockers with them. So you may spend three mana to get your own two drop back, if youre pressing on the attack that creature could aid in killing them next turn.

@Moaz: Good question! Blood Baron's protection abilities do not apply in the graveyard, so you can indeed return it with this.
