more or less a 5/5 for 4, maybe more in the right deck. Would have preferred worse stats for cheaper though. As it is it'll never make it past kitchen table, despite it's backbreaking ability.

I must say, the fact that it gets +3/+3 rather than +2/+2 is what made this card even more appealing (yeah, not even the fact that it should have had trample). Why? It's because it's more and more tempting to want to abuse the ability! Who wouldn't want to put, like a gazillion tokens into play and add some evasion on this creature by seeing that ability? This is going to be the biggest bird of all time if you combo him right... Use lots of populate effects, put little creatures into play... Think about this, playing naya midrange or something...
all those +3/+3's and he gets trample... That's just one combo too.
This card is balanced because if it was any better it wouldn't be an uncommon anymore...

This plus Eyes in the Sky is going to be a good way to inflict a lot of pain in limited, especially since they're both solid cards you should be playing anyway (though really any flash creature/ instant speed token maker or populate is still a free giant growth with this). Griffin Protector was good and while this doesn't have evasion and doesn't have as good stats, the bonus being much bigger more than makes up for it, essentially forcing a chump if you can manage more than one creature per turn and only a 5/5 if you keep playing creatures. Also, I love that White gets Birds and Green doesn't get fliers so W/G gets flightless birds, in what I hope is an official color pie slice now.

From the same set, Trostani's Summoner comes to mind, giving this guy +12/+12 until end of turn.
Yeah, this is underrated. Stick Rancor on it, then Lingering Souls for +6/+6 (then flashback for another +6/+6), or Call for the +12/+12 right away.

This bird is just BEGGING to get a Fists of Ironwood tacked onto it. Drop on that, it's suddenly an 8/8 trample for only 2 mana and the trample persists.
This might find a niche in classic Selesnya decks, moreso than RtR Selesnya decks.
And don't start me on a beefy Mycoloth (shudder)..

Needs lifelink +2/+2 and Trample Unflinching Courage Midnight Haunting becomes an even cooler combat trick! This, Geist-Honored Monk then Fungal Sprouting... Edit: Lots of token producing creatures and Legion's Initiative. Edit 2: if you do use LI make sure you have Selesnya Charm to hand for trample!!! Biggest vulnerability is being a 2/2 on your opponent's turn or the start of your's so you need to have flash creatures to combat b?urn spells

"The chickens" are total beasts in limited. I happened to draft 2 and I was lucky to drew them a lot. Soon my friends started surrendering as soon as they hit the table. With Eyes in the Skies, Seller of Songbirds and Scion of Vitu-Ghazi they were unstoppable. It made me want to try them in constructed.

For even more fun, add in some Primordial Hydra, Savageborn Hydra, and lots of 1/1 counter movement. This is such a fun card to play around with...better for casual play, but there are some serious decks that can be built around it!
