I suppose it would be possible to make an artifact deck with this as the win con. Could be interesting.

A big dragon with the ability to steal things is always fun in casual, not to mention that you can just make a deck with 40-odd artifacts. Also, great flavor!

This thing is amazing. I don't usually get excited over a dragon card unless it is Nicol Bolas. But this is going into at least one of my commander decks. Its ability to steal artifacts is a excellent ability making this a worth while card in any commander deck running red. Especially with all the Sensei's Divining Tops and Sol rings running around. Who cares if your deck isn't designed to take advantage of its win the game ability? USE this for its steal ability! You will not be disappointed.

I feel like this was specifically designed for mono red EDH since the only way they can get any card advantage is with artifacts.

This may be the first time I've seen a dragon giving a hug.

That is a lot of angst towards affinity and esper players... Since you can cast your own artifacts, the 20 requirement is not hard to achieve. Hell, artifact creature TOKENS are artifacts too.

a 6/5 flying face beater for 6 that steals ALL of your opponents artifacts... I think this is pretty good and may have a place if the "friends" block has a high emphasis on artifacts.

Mycosynth Lattice

the only real way to make this guy practical as was mentioned, but it still costs a ton of mana.

interesting card only because of the built in win condition, apart from that, it's an average dragon.

Apparently you guys hate using Artifact decks. A LOT.

This card alone would easily win the game against me. (Of course, the thought of a Dragon that's actually USEFUL to me, and FOR artifacts at that? >_<

All it has to do is deal 1 combat damage--which is made easier due to trample--to take every artifact from someone? Even if your opponent doesn't have any artifacts, a 6/5 trampler for 6 isn't bad. Surely this deserves at least 4 stars.

★★★★★ (5.0/5.0) (4 votes)
As an EDH player, this is brutal in most games, especially mid to late-game when those Swiftfoot Boots and Sol Rings are becoming huge pains. The alternate win-con may not happen, but nabbing all your opponent's artifacts is powerful.

★★★★★ (5.0/5.0) (1 vote)
I disagree. If you happen to have an artifact heavy mana accelerating Myr deck, Myr Incubator can make this a pretty viable win-con, although having that many 1/1 Myr Artifact Creature tokens in play can be just as much of a win-con with Myr Galvanizer and Myr Battlesphere.

Sure, there are better, faster ways to steal an opponent's Planeswalker or Land, but this way is still fun.

Look, if nothing else, he's a 6/5 flample for 4RedRed. For red, that seems pretty damn efficient, even if most red decks want to win well before they hit 6 mana. In EDH this guy is incredible. In limited he's a bomb. And the artifacts he takes are yours for the rest of the game, even if you lose him. If you guys think that's only deserving of a 3.3/5, then you need to get your heads checked. 5/5 from me.

cheating him in with Kaalia of the Vast and swinging at the person with the most artifacts on the table, Claiming all of their artifacts and seeing the look on their faces. Priceless!

Is it a bad thing that if this thing ever hit me against an EDH deck I designed, I would lose without any permanents? *Sigh*. Memnarch, you need to be able to block this guy and live... (notice how this guy gets 1 damage past Memnarch to steal all artifacts, and Memnarch's power is 1 too low to kill this guy).

I love the flavor of this card, especially when you consider traditional classic literature dragons (like Smaug). It's perfectly feasible to imagine a dragon attacking anything from one person to a whole city partially because of covetous vices and not just out of rage or hunger, razing the countryside and burninating all the peoples and thatched-roof cottages with the mentality of; "I AM YOUR GOD; BRING ME YOUR SHINY THINGS!"

Yet another reminder that I own two Mycosynth Lattice and have yet to build that artifact deck...

Oh, and because no one has mentioned it yet...

"SPIKE... WANT!"

in my opinion this is most irrelevant card in the set. flavour-wise, what is an artifact greedy dragon do in ravnica? why isn't he in Mirrodin already? feel he is probably connected somehow with the third set but still right now he looks hopelessly irrelevant and still would prefer seeing him in the mirrodin block. play-wise, good in limited, but just because of flying and body, the ability is of little help and wining condition is just impossible to achieve. on Standard its still unplayable, especially as long as thundermaw hellkite is around. I can only see this card play in an artifact based modern deck.

What card could be cooler than a flying and trample that steals artifacts!!! I have one in both of my decks (modern and standard). If you play modern you can combo it with myr turbine. you will win in a matter of turns!

Planning on using this with Xathrid Gorgon in a Timmy deck. Think of the combined flavour!

Edit: Maybe using something like Fling too because turning opponent's creatures to stone, flying off with them and then hurling them back seems like a lot of fun. ^^

Sure in Standard, this guy isn't going to see play. But in EDH, this guy is a real workhorse. A flying 6/5 for 6? Not too bad. With trample? Great! With the ability to take out every one of those staple artifacts in an EDH deck (I'm talking Sol ring, Mimic Vat, Staff of nin, Sensei's divining top, Lightning greaves, Darksteel ingot, freaking Blightsteel colossus!!!), then this guy becomes amazing.

I use him in my Rakdos, Lord of riots EDH deck, so can usually get him out for between 2-4 mana anyway. But of course, if you work around your deck to make it artifact-heavy, then this guy will probably be a very viable win condition.

Let's see...

1) Good in limited but doesn't break it.
2) Hilarious and unique ability that ignites the imagination.
3) Situational nature makes it not great in every deck all the time, but still useful when that isn't relevant.
4) Despite its power level, too unwieldy for standard.

Now THAT'S what I call a mythic!

Certainly if you build a deck around this guy you could almost go for an insta-win as soon as you play him but otherwise he's just your average Dragon with a nasty effect. Actually reminds me of Balefire Dragon in that you REALLY want to keep it off your chest so will be blocked a fair bit if there are any important artifacts out.

I'm working on a Jhoira EDH and I've got a few dragons so far and I suppose this guy makes the cut, it's just his win condition clashes with Hoard-Smelter Dragon. :P

Step 1: Find annoying person who plays artifact lands / affinity in commander.
Step 2: Sneak an Oath of Druids into your deck.
Step 3: Search out this and watch them rage.

@TowerDefense, really it's an insta-win with 9 lands. Mycosynth lattice + Hellkite Dragon + 9 * 2 Lands = 20 artifacts.

My fun idea for this guy is to have 20 artifacts in play (probably with Mycosynth Lattice, as many people have noted). Then play him and follow with Final Fortune right after (because the win condition triggers on your upkeep). Granted if they have any kind of instant removed you're boned, but if not it's a pretty classy way to win.

Liquimetal Coating can also help you get to 20 artifacts. I have a Prototype Portal that does it too. Expensive? I have some Palladium Myrs in there, and one day I'll stop being cheap and buy a Sol Ring or two to have him jacking artifacts earlier.

It's an amazing 6 CMC creature without the alternate win-con.

Rating a 6/5 flying trampler for 6 mana, no downsides, less than four is just spoiled. Alternate wins are fun, and the artifact theft is good in a block full of keyrunes and cluestones.

me: alright I play mwonvuli beast tracker to tutor for hellkite tyrant , pass
opponent: ooh that's not good considering I have an artifact deck, so I'll mind sculpt you
me:...shit, alright
*5 turn later*
opponent: alright I played darksteel forge then equip one of my creature with a silverskin armor, have fun getting around me
me: ok that last play left you with no mana correct ?
opponent:...y-yeah
me: cool I played torrent of souls to pull hellkite tyrant from the grave
opponent: goblin balls...ok I can still deal with him, he can't attack this turn
me: guess again, I spent red to cast torrent of souls, he get +2 and haste...attack ! no blocker ? then I'll take...everything you own I guess, now I'll equip my tyrant with silverskin armor and make him indestructible
opponent:...I scoop

4.5/5 from me. 6/5 Flying Trample rocks. The artifact stuff is just gravy.
Mazrodak
☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
Amazing synergy with Hammer of Purphoros and Purphoros, God of the Forge. The hammer gives him haste so he can instantly attack and steal opponent's artifacts(which from my experience is the main problem faced when trying to steal artifacts with him) and allows for the creation of artifact creatures, albeit at the often high cost of saccing a land. However, since the golems are tokens, they can be populated and since Purphoros himself does two damage whenever a creature enters play under your control, and the red mana costs in the hammer and tyrant are just enough to make Purphoros a 6/5 creature himself, odds are you won't even need the Tyrant's win-con, but it's nice insurance either way.
