They don't have haste? Casting two Krenko's Command is going to be better in the long run...

@SyntheticDreamer

Maybe, but then again, that'll cost you two cards instead of just one. It's still good to see red getting some tokens in this set alongside all the white/green ones.

Ironically enough, more goblins tends to be extremely powerful in the mid-to-late game. I'm not saying that a goblin deck should have won by the time it has 5 mana out, but I am saying that this card reinforces or refreshes board presence immediately after, say, Arms Dealer has nuked a handful of the opponent's creatures, or the turn after Krenko, Mob Boss has been played and you want another 8 tokens added to however many gobs you've already got on the field.

Pros like me like this card. Goblin tokens are arguable the best tokens to have and this spell makes 4 of them.

Well... in a vacuum This the turn after dropping Chandra, the Firebrand and copying it could be good.

Not bad, not bad. The card is costed fairly enough, the only question is can your deck make use of a late game big weenie drop.

I believe it's important to note that, also printed in this block are Goblin Electromancer and Guttersnipe and this obviously works very well with both of them.

OK lotsofpoopy, i know you're a pro and all, but how can you possibly say that goblin tokens are the best tokens? clearly the best tokens are either goat tokens, or hippo tokens.

Krenko's Command gives 2 goblins for 2. So does Dragon Fodder. This should hand out 5 goblins, not 4.

Not bad, though not exactly great. Hey, more goblins is better than nothing.

@alphagprime : I totally support your view. This, Guttersnipe, Goblin Electromancer, Krenko's Command makes for a great spell-oriented swarm Izzet deck.
You establish your little goblins while dealing damage with guttersnipe, you then proceed to smash some face with evasive/pump spells from Izzet like Dynacharge, Teleportal or Blustersquall.
Not your typical Izzet, but I think it's a fun way to do it.

PS : In the type of deck I just said, I actually prefer this over Krenko, Mob Boss, because it's a spell (so cheapened by Electromancer and triggers Guttersnipe) and also because the Goblin's are ready to attack a turn sooner (with Krenko you have to put him down, then wait to put tokens, then attack the turn after the tokens come...)

Izzet Goblins are awesome. 2x Goblin Electromancer and this is already much more efficient than 2x Krenko's Command, plus Teleportal and this is often game over depending on board state.
Not only those previously stated comments, but having a high CMC (which could be reduced by 3 potentially) can be an advantage in itself, Mercurial Chemister is going to love dealing 5 damage.
Not that any of this is reliable in competitive play or anything...

come on! stop complaining about 4 or 5! 4 tokens are a lot and unless your opponent has mass removal this is a great card advantage. and also tribal tokens. time ago i used to play goblin scouts and i liked it

For the same cost there's Siege-Gang Commander. Which gives you the same number of goblins. Only one of them is a 2/2 with a very handy ability.

3/5. Four dudes for 5. Slightly overcosted.

At first I looked at this card and thought "meh", 4 gobbies for a cmc 5 is rather underwhelming.

But then I started looking at my gob deck centered around using Krenko, Mob Boss and Hellraiser Goblin. In context to those cards, it actually pulls its weight.

At least for standard. Sure there's Seige-Gang Commander and other better *modern/legacy* cards... but I tend to play standard because all of my friends have brutal modern decks, so I build standards to force them to think outside the box instead of net decking old cards.

I'm a bit of a Johnny when it comes to this stuff, but there can be a decent way to do this. Throw down a 1 drop gobbie on turn one, krenko's command on turn two, hellraiser on turn three (second main phase, naturally unless they don't have decent defenses), Krenko on turn four; tap him and attack with your 9 gobbies, then on turn five throw this down and tap krenko for awesome. Then you spend the game roasting the opponent with burns and junk, perhaps more krenko's commands and an Arms Dealer for board control. Heck, you could even use Dual Casting with the Arms Dealer to keep him tapped and double your instant/sorcery output since you now have more mana. You can always pick and choose the cards in your hand with Rummaging Goblin as well, but it's not vital. If you are splashing izzet you can always throw in some draw spells that don't require discarding.

Not going to win any tournaments, but a useful build for winning and still keeping friends in the process.

Good followup to Purphoros, God of the Forge. 8 damage to each opponent for five mana is not a bad deal.

Someone already mentioned using this with Purphoros, God of the Forge but you can also add in Ogre Battledriver for more fun/damage. Cast for 5 take 8 burn damage then swing for 12.

this is just limited gold.

not great outside limited.

In current standard, this becomes a very powerful 5 drop after dropping Purphoros on turn 4 and hammer on turn 3. 4 1/1 hasted goblins and 8 damage to the face, right on curve, is nothing to sneeze at. Can be a very potent finisher in mono red.
