I predict two types of myr decks, one will have a well thought out win condtion using infinte mana and a perfect mana curve ......The other will ....well ..its not going be pretty and its going involve a massive myr ball beating serouis face . I know which on i,m playing.

@MindBend:

Actually, the smash face with myrball is more stable. WIth the right suppost, it's generally a GG in myr tribal. Whereas infinite combo takes to many cards to be ideally stable.

In Myr tribal, infinite mana takes only 3 cards and your win condition of choice.
Myr Galvanizer x2, Palladium Myr.
Or if you want to run coloured infinite mana, it takes 2 mana myrs in the place of the Palladium.

Deadly in a Myr deck, especially since the latest addition of Myr Galvanizer. With a Myr Galvanizer in play, you don't have to worry about tapping all your Myrs, you can just untap them and they're ready to defend, if the opponent is still alive~.

I don't care about competitive (although this seems pretty well-designed)-- I WANT THIS CARD.

It's a giant sphere of Myr. How could I possibly complain?

Also, I believe this card's proper name is actually MYR BATTLESPHERE, like BRIAN BLESSED. Wizards just wasn't willing to offend some people's stylistic sensibilities by printing that on the card.

This card is just insane.
It actually remembers me a lot the Katamari, from a not so well know game.

Now, what it does provide is also very very awesome. Direct damage plus attacking with that full power is something not so easily to deal with, because they are two kind of damages... and even, if an opponent happens to return it to your hand or destroy it, with everything around you can return it to the board quite easy.

A true threat, and even an extra threat to keep opponent busy and worry about if your deck revolves around infinite mana.

CJM2 said: Does anyone have any ideas as to flavor, why this card doesn't just get +X/+0 and trample, rather than dealing direct damage? Just curious.

Right, well, I do think a giant ball would really warrant trample. But here's my stab at it- the Myr all form up like some power-rangers robot and go rolling about like a giant Mythbusters lego ball. That's a given. What I imagine, given the art, is that the controlling planeswalker spins the ball with such speed that Myr begin flying off at his foes- so fast that creatures are helpless to stop the blurry Myr projectiles. (it's important to note that the planeswalker casts a counterspell on Centripetal Force before this takes place)

So yeah, awesome card. With multiples of Myr Galvanizer, and a few mana Myr,this could be game with the first attack. I'm just really kind of hoping this will be meme-worthy.

ONe of the few cool myrs in scars. A card worth 5 creatures on the field at colourless mana is definitely interesting, especially when those creatures can work together. I don't like myrs (small silly bird looking robots ain't my definition of awesome), but I like this one. Without this, the myr would be so boring, this makes the tribe a whole lot more fun.

NOOO!! someone beat me to the great balls of fire comment. Darn it.
Reasons i love it:
Hard to kill - its got seven toughness, so not much is gonna get it there
- its an artifact, so buy buy a decent portion of blacks kills.
Even if killed, you've still got 4 total power toughness, advantage much?
If bounced, well, long run, all the more fun for you.
It does direct damage. I love direct damage

This card doesn't need trample, haste would be nice, but giving this trample would make it a one hit swing, due to it's other ability, tap any untaped myr this card deals that much damage and gains that many points to it's power. trample would just be ridiculous.
IshubarashI
★★★★☆ (4.4/5.0) (8 votes)
Here's my take on the card's flavor. The sphere forms and starts rolling (it attacks), other myr see it and are like "DUDE WAIT UP FOR ME" so they run jump in front of it, then it rolls over them and they grab on.

The sphere starts rolling faster and faster, and the spare myr aren't really strong enough to hold on (most of them are 1/1s, maybe 2/2 at best?) so they end up being flung off the sphere and turn into little animatronic bits of shrapnel (direct damage). You can actually see myr being thrown off in the artwork.

Then they slam in to whatever is blocking it, and the sphere isn't very sturdy, so instead of just rolling over whatever little memnite got in their way (not having trample), the ball just breaks up and all the myr run back to reform the sphere.
gelleetin
★★★☆☆ (3.0/5.0) (1 vote)
Game-play wise, direct damage to the defending player is a lot more interesting and useful than good old trample (I like how the direct dmg can be redirected to walkers to keep them in check). Also plays well with myr untapping shenanigans (attack with all myr, untap with galvanizer while battlesphere's trigger is on the stack, then tap again for dmg and pump).

Flavor wise, my mental image is that as the Myr ball grows ever larger, some of the myr are flung by momentum at their eventual, unfortunate target :)

★★★★☆ (4.0/5.0) (1 vote)
This is very much worth 7 mana. The ability ends games fast, and even if it gets killed you're still getting 4 tokens, which are not unlikely to be pumped by Myr Galvanizers, if not Tempered Steels. Add mana myr to the mix and these aren't that hard to summon at all. I play four in my myr deck and am completely OK with that.
Carnophage_4ever
★★★☆☆ (3.0/5.0) (1 vote)
The sphere is pure awesomness, Myr Decks are pure ingenuity. What does bug me is that if Myr Decks can hold their own against any casual deck, it is just short of being competitive. Just a little too slow to come out in constructed standard tourneys. Please WoTC allow Myrs to ramp up earlier! Maybe this way we'll see different cards in Standard.

I was playing in my school Magic club today with my (Standard Legal) Myr deck. I got this out on turn 4 with a Gold Myr and a Palladium Myr. They had no creatures out, and when the brought one out the next turn, I Arrested it. 6 Myr's tapped and the direct damage brought them from 19 to 3 health in one turn. When they killed it on the next turn, I played my Razor Hippogriff. Myr decks FTW.

Man, when I first saw a Myr (it was a Gold Myr) in Mirrodin, I thought they were cute and I was contemplating on how to build a deck from these cuddly creatures.

Now, years later I still think they're huggable little creatures and when I bought a boosterbox, I found THIS one, along with some others and now (with help from a good friend, thanks Plox, for the Myr Matrix! :P) I have a brand new deck with cute little Myr; 2 Galvanizers and one Palladium for inf mana, a Darksteel Forge (found randomly by the same Plox), Myr Matrix and of course 2 Battlespheres :P.

Now when I grab this deck I can read the fear and aggromode+10000.... and hate and disgust... in my opponents eyes which is a relief after being slaughtered by platinum angels, near death experiences etc...

Man I almost love my Myr more than I love my Slivers...

Definitely one of my favourite SoM cards! So much flavour and so damn simple! Also the only reason I can see for actually putting Myr Propagator into a deck ;-)

@WhiteyMcFly I don't think you can target Gideon with the damage, it just says "defending player", which is your opponent. I could be mistaken, but even if you're attacking a PW that player controls, the "defending player" is still the same: that player.

@divine_exodus: Because a "battlesphere" isn't an individual. It's quite conceivable that a finite number of Myr could form more than one battlesphere at one time. That logically precludes this from being legendary on both a flavour and gameplay front.

This + 2x Myr Galvanizer + Any Myr that can be tapped for mana = Unlimited Damage
funkmasta1805
☆☆☆☆☆ (0.5/5.0) (2 votes)
It seems like a good card, but it's only really profitable if the myr have an attack of 1 or less. The myr only add 1 attack to the sphere each, whereas if they have an attack of 2 or higher, they will do more damage attacking directly.
For example, If I have an Iron myr and a darksteel myr, The Iron Myr will do 1 damage by itself, and have 1 defense, or it can add 1 damage to the sphere, and have 7 defense. So it doesn't make a difference unless your opponent has a creature that can block and kill it. The darksteel myr, however, does 0 damage, but will add 1 damage to the sphere. In this case, it is profitable to use the sphere.
Once you throw in a couple Myr Galvanizers or Matrices, the +1/+1 buffs will outweigh the benefits of the sphere. you can deal 3 damage with the myr, or add 1 to the sphere. In this case, you should only use the sphere if you opponent has a very high-powered creature that could kill the myr.

Myr Prime - Loyalty 4

+2: Put two 1/1 Myr artifact creature tokens into play.
-1: Return one Myr artifact creature from the graveyard to the battlefield.
-5: Exile 5 Myr artifact creatures.
Put a 8/8 Myr Transformer artifact creature called "Myr Supreme" into play
Myr Supreme has all the activated abilities of Myr exiled this way

Master Transmuter loves this guy. Make a swarm of Myr to ping to the face with.

If that's not enough for you, then throw in a Kuldotha Forgemaster as a third piece (search for an artifact each turn without card disadvantage), or Time Sieve (effectively become sacrifice 1 artifact for an extra turn). And given how many artifacts effectively replace themselves (like Myr Retriever or Ichor Wellspring), that's a very good deal.

@DJBon/WhiteMcFly - any noncombat damage that is dealt to a player by an opponent can be redirected by that opponent to a planeswalker the player controls. As such, the Battlesphere noncombat damage can be dealt to a planeswalker the defending player controls.

Here's something I figured out recently, and it's actually a really awesome thing you can do with Myr Battlesphere. Here's what you do:

Step 1: Attack with Myr Battlesphere and all of your other myr, but save one Myr Galvanizer.

Step 2: You may tap myr, as per the Battlesphere's ability. However. This is a triggered ability, which gives you the opportunity to tap your myr. This allows you to do something in response to it. So, use the ability of Myr Galvanizer in response. It goes on the stack on top of the Myr Battlesphere's ability, so all of your myr untap.

Step 3: The stack now moves on to the Myr Battlesphere ability. All of those myr you just attacked with? You can now tap them again to power up your Battlesphere, since they're untapped now.

Step 4: Congratulations, you are now putting out a lot more damage than you otherwise would have had you simply attacked without this little trick.

Say you have only the Battlesphere, the Galvanizer, and the 4 myr that your Battlesphere brought with it. Normally on a full attack, you would be doing 15 damage had all myr attacked/tapped. However, with this little trick, you now do 13 from tokens and non-buffed Battlesphere, plus an additional 10 from buffing your Battlesphere with the tokens and itself (it's untapped now, remember). You just pulled an additional 8 damage out of your attack by using this trick. And remember kids, more myr means more damage, especially with this trick.

@funkmasta1805 - The chances of one of the many 1 power Myr getting through on the attack are slim to none. By tapping them in this way, you're not only pumping the 'sphere, you're also throwing that damage directly at your opponent (or a planeswalker).
