I went up against one of these at the prerelease. Way more effective then I thought he would be, since he can essentially zerg rush any one of your creatures. Even big hitters like Godsire can only take on four of those wolves. Very good card.

Why beat around the bush? Why not just name him Odin, who he's supposed to be an homage to.

Yes, skoll, there is. This card's basically a more functional reprint of Master of the Hunt. Seriously, skoll, just... no.

if i also had watchwolf and wolf pack in play at the same time, do they all damage? or is it just those specific wolf tokens?

Jeez, that's powerful. And wordy. There's barely any space left in the text box, and this is a core set card. Yeah, it's "mythic" but c'mon.

I smell an awesome mono green token deck coming on. Probably my favourite card of the whole game since I got back into it recently. I love it, I already own 3 I just need one more.

It should give +1/+1 to Wolves, so it would be "Wolf lord"

I played him recently in a draft (my first pack, he was the rare AND the foil... and one of the uncommons was Overrun!) and he's surprisingly brutal even in limited without support from other Wolf cards. He's total Doom Blade bait, which is annoying, but can be turned to your advantage. Illusionary Servant air forces are brutal in limited, and his ability just murders them.

A great trick is that it's totally fair game to block with your wolves and then sic them on an unblocked creature... just unfair. Throw a Whispersilk Cloak on him if you want him to live, though.

This guy begs to splash white for Mark of Asylum. Being able to save your wolves after the "Arena" effect is really nice. Harm's Way works well for this as well.

Finally, this guy is amazing in casual legacy with Serra's Blessing. Gives all your wolves Vigilance...lets you swing and suicide for maximum puppy damage.

This guy is really good with the original Master of the Hunt if you use the new rules for "Bands with Other".

I played in a sealed deck tournament recently. I was pretty sure that I could target a different creature with each tapped wolf, or send multiple wolves at one creature if I so chose; my rationale here was the use of the word "each" rather than the word "all". My friend (my opponent) disagreed and told me that all the wolves had to target one guy, not multiple guys. I went along with it, since I was in his house eating his snacks and I didn't feel like arguing. Plus, I went 2-0 against him anyway. ^_^

But the question remains in my mind: Can't you have each wolf deal its damage to a different creature? I'm almost positive you can.

You can send the wolves alone (ie one at a time) against the opponent if that is what your asking, but his ability requires all wolves to be sent to one creature. so don't use it unless you really want to kill one big beast on the field

Or a Green/White with Mark of the Asylum and Harm's Way like skoll92 was saying. Add the Whispersilk cloaks, Howl of the Night Pack, some mana accelerating elves, and some pacifisms for the early game and you've got a winner.

Usually wolves are in the sidelines. (i.e. ally or elf decks) But now wolves can be the main attraction!

What I am trying now is MoWH, Wren's Run Packmaster, with Vigor as the big creature. MoWH plus the Packmaster means you only need one wolf out to take down most creatures. In this situation, you can use MoWH to take down a creature, then use the Packmaster's ability to summon another (untapped) wolf with deathtouch to block with. Should Vigor be in play, then your wolves also become bigger every time they are used by the MoWH. Throw in Wren's Run Vanquishers to hold the line when you don't have either of the wolf generators out, and it can be championed by the Packmaster (though more likely you would champion one of your mana elves by that time.)

I love the group of people who think every creature is trash unless it can survive a lightning bolt, path to exile, doomblade, and terminate simultaneously. Oh, but even creatures with shroud can be killed by a day of judgment, so they suck too!

Go play by yourself with your blinking spirit!

My favorite "Mythic". Against an aggro deck, it gives you a slow way to destroy their offensive if you can set up a defense (In casual, I suggest carven caryatid or wall of blossoms.) Against a control deck, they need to kill this guy before they are overrun. Jund decks in standard have recently been using him over Garruk Wildspeaker because he is immune to blightning damage, and Eldrazi green because indestructible 3/3 wolfs tend to be good at killing things. Plus, this guy is just cool. 5/5 IMHO.

@ratchet1215

Your friend was correct. The wolves all target a single creature, zergrush dogpile style. Also, although it says "each wolf", it also says that they all deal damage to target creature, and that creature deals damage back to all of them, divided up like combat damage.

I really like this card for it Lure ability for example If I attack with an 5/5 creature and have 2 wolf ready to to tap and they block with a 6/6 creature. Well to save your creature just tap your wolfs and Master Of the wild hunt and you will force them deal the damage to the wolfs first then to your 5/5 creature for one point of damage and they will lose there 6/6 creature.

@Gwafa_Hazid: To be precise, it isn't divided up like combat damage. Lethal damage need not be assigned to each wolf to assign damage to the next in line. Usually not relevant, though.

Why this card was not reprinted in M11 when White got BSA again I will never understand. Wizards, you are stupid.

I really love this card. Combo with quest for renewal and you have a wolf powered sniper at then end of your turn, blockers, then another snipe before your turn begins. Even more fun in multiplayer. This is a great card, and a good mythic. He screams build around me.

I wish this would see reprint in Innistrad, though I doubt it will. The "wild hunt" is a kind of an ancient faerie tale/horror trope about wicked (or amoral) otherworldly beings from another dimension crossing over into our world and hunting humans. Thematically and mechanically (with the wolves) he would fit perfectly into Innistrad.

This card is just pure fun, great design, great art. Once you start sending your wolves to pick apart your opponent's small creatures and then build up for the takedown on fatties, you will not forget the look on your opponent's face.

Vines of Vastwood has served me well with this card, use it to pump a single wolf to 6/6 then send that wolf to take down a creature, or use the hexproof to protect your Master.

If you are using this card along with Parallel Lives and have the battlefield filled with wolf tokens, here's a trick to only send certain wolves at a creature's throat - Initiate your attack phase with a couple wolves then interrupt with the MotWH's ability, then send whatever wolves are untapped at whatever creature you need to kill.

5/5

This is one of my favorite cards. It's fairly low cost and can be used in some pretty sick combos. I personally use it in a Forest deck with the card Fable of Wolf and Owl, Howl of the Night Pack, Coat of Arms, and last but not least, Eldrazi Monument. This allows you to summon quite a few 2/2 Wolf tokens to the field, and if you can get more than one card mentioned above on the field at once, over 20. Using Coat of Arms and Eldrazi Monument you can buff up each of the wolf tokens to creatures with over 15/15 stats and with
invincibility and flying. The only setback is having to sacrifice a creature each turn because of Eldrazi Monument. But the effect of Master of the Wild Hunt will negate this with a new token being generated each turn. I hope this helps anyone trying to make an awesome deck and the links to these cards are below.

I've got a question and I apologize if it's newbish. At your Upkeep you place your wolf token down and then at the combat phase you decide to use Master's ability, is that wolf counted towards it? The reason I ask is because I am confused if it is tapped due to summoning sickness.

For a better outline, say you already have 1 wolf out from last turn and has recovered from summoning sickness and at this turns upkeep you bring out your 2nd wolf which has summoning sickness. You want to snipe a 2/2 creature, but dont want to sac a wolf. You use Master's ability, tap two wolves, deal 4 damage to the target and spread the 2 recieved damage amongst the two wolves to survive. Is this legal? Is the latest wolf token allowed to participate in the ability?

QUESTION!::::
What about abilities of the wolves that you tap to deal damage?
E.G
if your wolves have lifelink or deathtouch?

FOR EXAMPLE:
You tap MotWH to tap 2x 2/2 wolves with deathtouch to deal dmg to a 6/6 creature... does this creature die? or does it just take 4 dmg?

Easy to use card advantage that is really quite powerful in the right hands. Works awesome with Mayor of Avabruck and Garruk Relentless, which has spawned multiple legacy brews from me.

Tricks include:
-In response to wolfs being made, tap the others to fight a creature, this leaves some of your wolves untapped
-Attack with all the wolves except those you want to fight; then fight before blockers are declared to remove a problem blocker
-Use Garruk's "Deathtouch Wolves" to form a rocket launcher
-Block with your wolves, then shoot another guy down before combat damage. Wolves that live will deal double damage, wolves that die will still be blocking damage to your face.

What almost makes him good is that he dodges a reasonable amount of removal. *Yay!*

Is there some reason the Oracle text doesn't use the 'fight' wording? Because that's exactly what this card does- "Tap all untapped wolf creatures you control, each of those creatures fights target creature." They changed the Oracle text for Arena. Why the lack of consistency?
