This is some very clever card design. Pumps your Werewolves all hours of the day and serves as a Human lord. I love it.

great card, I never thought I'd see a lord of 2 creatures on one card, and I love the fact that he's a politian, its just funny and flavorful,

He should also boost hounds ;_;
You know, for symmetry.

Even without the whole werewolf thing he'd have secured a unique and interesting place in Magic for being the first human lord (and not a bad one at that). A two mana lord for possibly the most common creature type in the game? This guy will see play at some point or other in multiple formats and countless casual decks that use him to boost up token armies or synergisticn humans of note (time will tell who).
Also note that he is not a legendary creature, you can have four of him out at once.

Actually, if I'm not mistaken Stangg and Crib Swap are the only cards that make human tokens so I doubt he'll be pumping any human token armies. His flip side would be much better for token-pumping given the amount of wolf token makers lately.

Quite the cool card though, and I have to agree that it's pretty hilarious he's a two-faced politician.

Why is this the pre-release alt art foil and not a mythic?? I feel kinda cheated... :(

This was discussed on a forum elsewhere: Since he's not legendary, that must mean that Avabruck regularly elects mayors that are werewolves.

Come to think of it, there are probably some politicians in office in the real world that don't compare favorably to an otherwise average joe that goes on an uncontrollable killing spree once a month.

This guy is very scary. Imagine watching someone drop Reckless Waif on turn 1, this guy on turn 2, then Kruin Outlaw on turn 3. Bit of a perfect hand, but it's not really that far-fetched, and it turns into a truly absurd attacking team, even if they don't transform. If they do, the other guy's screwed; Kruin Outlaw effectively gets "double" the +1/+1 bonus' attack bonus since it's hitting twice, and it's also giving your guys evasion--including Reckless Waif, your one drop, which got turned into a 4/3.

I love werewolves.

Works well with humans as well as werewolves. As a human he makes your humans stronger. As a werewolf he makes an army. Even in a human deck I wouldn't complain if he transformed.

@2pcsofcandy: Whoa, you're right about those being the only 2... with basically all Soldiers also being Humans, I was surprised that most Soldier token creators don't specify any race, I always just assumed they were Human... now I wonder exactly what creatures I'm hiding behind, lol...

The only way this guy gets flipped in standard is against birthing pod or late game stall

my brother and i went to the prerelease last week, and we both got the promo signed by the artist
when we got back we realized just how good this thing is. it runs games no matter which side is flipped

Very Flexible Card
All "Werewolves" are Humans while they are in their Day form, but it's flexibility doesn't stop at werewolves. If used in a "Human" deck, it makes your opponent practically skip a turn to get ride of his Human effect if he wants to, a +1/+1 to all humans isn't major unless you know how to use it. I can see this running in a equip deck, or some other version of a human deck, not just werewolves.

1/1 does not help it's survivability, but very good either way...

4.5/5 :: Not perfect... but very good and very flexible in the hands of the right deck makers. I can see this same card being used in 2 rival decks, with two completely different play styles.

A two-drop lord is always good in my book.
And if you're running human tribal, and your opponent thinks it's worth transforming him to take your Humans' boost away, for the price of not casting a spell?
Now he/she has to deal with a 3/3 that poops out more 3/3s.
He's, simply put, extremely good.

@Tommy9898; I know what you mean. I'm rather dissappointed that, with all the transform werewolves, they didn't make any hounds that transformed into wolves.

That asside, I really wish he were bigger; as a two-drop lord I'm sure he's good, but with 1 toughness, he's way too easy to remove.

The single best thing about this card is that when it's foiled, it's foiled on both sides. It doesn't instantly go banana-shaped like every other foil. I have a promo version in front of me right now, straight as an arrow, sitting snugly in its red sleeve.

Avabruck has been taken over by Werewolves. They're basically all Werewolves there, so of course the Mayor is too-- actually, this guy is rare. Maybe--hang on for a sec-- this guy is either not quite Amazing enough to warrant Commander Status- he would definitely have his fans no doubt, but would he compare favorably to Skithyrix, the Blight Dragon? nah. I think that occasionally we get rares of cards that are technically displaying a specific person, but don't qualify for Legendary for some reason or other.
A Rare Legendary should be able to compare to a non-Legendary Mythic. This guy is great as a normal Rare, but doesn't feel like he could shoulder the burdens of expectations from Legendary Status.
On top of all that, Lords are better as non-Legendary, low-mana, +1/+1s rather than Legendary medium-mana +more/+more. a Legendary +1/+1 wouldn't be good enough. This guy actually answers lots of strange design questions, but I think there is only one Mayor of Avabruck, and they let us have four just to make good decks.

Finally, someone said something about foils and it got me thinking- If Innistrad lets Double Faced Cards exist, and all of the potential problems are solved to satisfaction (I mean, they've already done it- I'm asking 'will this be seen as a mistake or a success in the future?'), then I think someone just needs to go ahead and propose that ALL FOILS should be DOUBLE FOILED CARDS. In every subsequent set. After all, I can't think of any possible problems with doing that that aren't already present on a normal, non-foil DFC.

Is it just me, or is this the only creature that gives all (other) Humans +1/+1.

this card is ridic in limited and i'm shocked it never made it to a constructed deck, this card punishes bad hands so bad .

A riddle:
You make and stack a deck of basic lands and a single creature. Your goal is to take out a goldfish as quickly as possible. How fast can you kill your opponent?
This and Markov Blademaster can perform a satisfying kill of the goldfish in just 6 turns. What are the other creatures that can kill by turn 6? Is anything faster?

This guy is a beast, he works in all the ways the Huntmaster fails; providing synergies all hours of the day for us hairy wolf types.

So when he transforms back into a human, does he fix the window everytime XD!!
For real tho, this guy is a monster threat for 2 mana. If he ever flips, he starts pooping out 3/3 for free every turn.

This guy is a boss, with him it is possible to attack for 7 on turn 3:
Turn 1: Copperline Gorge, Reckless Waif
Turn 2: A Land, this guy
Turn 3: Attack, Moonmist

Granted, this requires some luck, but it's Magic and if you're not playing blue or drege, all you have is luck. Even if this doesn't happen he is still an auto 4 of in any werewolf deck and can be in some pretty lolzy token decks.

Card is awesome. Played in my deck at the games day. One game I opened 3, before long I had 3 5/5's that made 3 5/5's every turn. Pretty damn crazy XD

For fun in Cube or casual:

T1: Land, Mox, Mayor, go.

Ran four of these in a r/g werewolf deck. It was very fast, usually getting at least a few creatures out by turn 3. At a standard tournament, I won the first three rounds quite easily, and then was promptly beaten by a boros all-commons-and-uncommons deck. Then i was ashamed of myself.

This guy is FANTASTIC in my Naya Humans. He plays very well with Champion of the Parish, letting me swing with a 3/3 on turn 2, and he plays just as well with Huntmaster of the Fells, putting him out of Pillar of Flame range and pumping him AND his wolf if they both flip.

Not to mention this puts pressure on your opponent to play a spell every turn, or allow me to get a 3/3 beater who gives me free 3/3 wolves every turn. Just last night at FNM I made two different decks play a Snapcaster Mage during main phase, just to stop me from getting in insurmountable early lead.

Absolutely brutal, this guy is one of the strongest two drops I could have designed for my standard deck. I'm going to be sad when he rotates out. :(

One of the few werewolves who is still decently worth his price even if he never transforms (as long as you have lots of other humans in your deck, of course, but that's not hard, even if you're not using a werewolf deck.)

Hang on guys there is something wrong with this art. The card shows he has a hound as a pet instead of an Immerwolf.

I honestly think this guy is the Green power-2-drop and not Goyf.
Why?

Every other "Power" 2-drop is due to card advantage and the ability to take the game away with them because of it; and this guy fits that. If he's left alone and transforms he starts producing 3/3s (remember that he buffs them!) and not only that; but he's a 3/3 himself.

This guy has been successfully used in vintage due to his human-pumping and his pressure. Put him out under a Root Maze or Winter Orb and you can shut down games pretty hard as he's nigh-guaranteed to transform and get a good 9+ damage in.

He's ridiculous. Also, he chumps for days.
