Must have for any good Zombie or Grixis deck. Good combo with Death Baron (give your deathtouching Zombies first strike.)

This is a ridiculous card. With Death Baron and Necromancer's Covenant, it can really get out of control FAST.

This with a Quietus Spikeis rediculous. They block u and u get a zombie, they dont and u r hitting hard eneough to take down even the strongest of life decks!

This and Kederekt Creeper work so well together. They block you get 2 tokens and 2 of their creatures die, or you do 5 damage to them.

The other alara block card I can think of that this works great with is Deathbringer Thoctar.

I don't think Deathbringer Thoctar is a very good card to go with Unscythe. The beauty of Unscythe is that even a 1/1 token is turned into something that will destroy anything less than an X/5, and when their huge thing dies and your tiny thing dies, you can just re-equip. You don't need to spend 6 mana to bring out a huge creature for this to work with. Tidehollow Strix is actually a much better choice. And of course, anything plus Quietus Spike makes the power and toughness of the creature irrelevant.

Using this with Lich Lord of Unx can really load up your playing field with zombies FAST, and then once you feel like it, mill the heck out of your opponent.

An under used combo in my opinion.

I like using this card with vein drinker you can choose which creature to destory each turn

I'm rather suprised nobody criticized the mana cost yet, considering that a double-back card that also requires two further colors is rather a mess to get out, especially on turn four.
Aside from that, it's still an amazing card, an x+3 first striker can beat quite a bunch of creatures unharmed and is therefore likely to put some zombies into play unless your opponent lets him get through.

Deathbringer throctor, death baron and finally this scythe

insert evil laugh as you wipe your opponents board clear and load the zombies onto yours

@bobth, the combo I am thinking doesnt need a strike though, the way you do it is;

T3 Death Baron
T4 Unscythe
T5 Deathbringer Thoctar
T6 Equip, bone splinter or doom blade, some death card, then open up the machine gun, wipe the board clear and get as many zombies back, turn 7 will be a death swing because unless you opponent drops a pro r or b creature, you can ping it, and take it, the swing with an army of 3/3

and as for the mana, UBBR isnt too bad, not in grixis and with the new dual lands and enemy fetch lands....

The fluff on this card is a bit backwards. It doesn't seem to be much of a killer of kings, but it does seem to be quite an effective Mook Transfer Machine.

Attach this to Thraximundar, then play Death Baron. Go crazy with the zombified cheeze-whiz.

I would like it to just be 2 colors, but its still great with deathtouch

@Darkfury: At that point you might as well throw in a Whispersilk Cloak too...

More useful in multiplayer than in a standard match, 1v1. Like Mode said, it is hard to cast and is generally a "win-more" situation when you use it. Goes awesome with Sedraxis Specter though!

There are some pretty creative combos here, but most are a bit overboard. After all, this is a 4-drop, so thinking early-game is important.

Personally, a Grixis Grimblade is the perfect recipient of Unscythe.

love the artwork, the scythe looks menacing. awsome card, just giving a creature +3/+3 and first strike for only 2 mana is good enough, but the added effect makes it worthy of being mythic rare. i prefer equipping it on Grixis Grimblade or Sedris, the Traitor King.

I use it in a white/blue deck with Quest for the Holy Relic, Stoneforge Mystic and See Beyond to throw it and a few other things back in the deck. Awesome equipment, though I've never used it in the proper colours.

lol. I just kept it simple and attached this to escaped null. If they block I gain 7 life and deal 7 damage with first strike and get a zombie if something dies. If they don't I get 4 life and deal 4 damage.

Vampire nighthawk also enjoys this. He nearly becomes a black baneslayer lol

Pestilence Demon Might wanna shy away from the basilisk collar though, don't wanna kill yourself, yeh?

Find some way to abuse the tokens that will inevitably hit the graveyard (Gravepact, for those bigger creatures perhaps?) and it just gets funnier. You could do vigor but that splashes into four colors unless you're running Stoneforge mystics or the like.

It's a disgrace to every Black Creature in MAGIC to not save this only for the Ultimate one of them:

Griselbrand.

MY Griselbrand Is Holding Unscythe, Killer of Kings!

You're Argument is INVALID!!!!!!!!!

My favorite thing about this equipment is it turns even a 1/1 into a five turn clock. Put it on a guy with a combat damage trigger to force blocks. Use the blue soulbond guy who draws you cards. Seems fun.

To Mode:
Nobody complained about the mana cost because:
1. you can go around it
2. it's meant to be hard to pull off. You likely won't be able to equip it in turn 4 anyway - so it's more of a 2BBRU in turn 5-6 which is doable.
3. the equip cost is already ridiculously good

@Shane: So yeah, if you're not playing Grixis, you won't be playing Unscythe anyway, so why would you replace this with Loxodon Warhammer? Why not just give him both?
TheWrathofShane
☆☆☆☆☆ (0.5/5.0) (2 votes)
Such tough color restrictions... and the effect is outclassed in my opinion by Loxodon Warhammer...
1/5 Its got some flavor, just overpriced. BlueBlackRed with equip 2 would be great I think, on the same level as sword of x and y.

@Jerec_Onyx
Honestly any of the sword of x and y put this thing to shame. Maybe in a casual, creature based grix deck this could have some kind of home....

The swords of x and y put this to shame because they are incredibly powerful mythic artifacts. While this isn't perfect it does what it does quite well (plus I can actually afford this).

I don't see why it couldn't have just been called "Killer of Kings."
Fantasy worlds typically don't have nerds who think they're clever – that's an exclusive feature of our own mortal dimension. Yet this is a name that only a fourteen-year-old Dungeon Master could love. In the war-torn world in which the scythe exists, the guy who would've named it “Unscythe” couldn't have.
