I have this in a red/green deck with Monstrous Growth. Combine that with a trample giver like Tromp the Domain, and this sucker wipes them OUT!

I used this in my black/red deck... i cant tell you how much this destroys my opponents... also my opponents based on life gaining was surprised to see this in my deck, after some turns damaging them they just concede... so much amazing in any deck with red in it, four of them is a very neat number... after damaging ur opponent in at least turn three, do ur thing damaging them any way u lyk, thatz what black and red is superb...

Good in theory, but I've never seen it matter. Either the opponent doesn't care because he doesn't run life gain, or he easily kills it and heals out of red's burn range.

A very interesting card, and one that I feel explores goo design space. If it weren't for that block's craziness, this guy would see play. Hell, I hope to see it reprinted if we ever see wither again.
Rainyday, you're wrong. Of course only a few decks actually run lifegain, but once his ability resolved he or she won't be able to gain life no matter if Stigma Lasher gets killed or not. And blocking this guy is a joyful thing as well, it's a 2/2 Wither creature after all, so unless you kill a chump-blocker you shrink another one in size permanently.

Don't waste souls fire on this. Use Power of Fire instead.
So...Elspeth gives an emblem, but this guy doesn't? He does something for the rest of the game, though. I don't know if I see the rules difference.

This guy (as far as I know) was the fist guy with an affect that lasts for the rest of the game. if he would be reprinted today, it would probably read: Whenever Stigma Lasher deals damage to a player, that player gets an Emblem with "You can't gain life."

Should Stigma Lasher give the player that it damages an EMBLEM now?

The actual gem of this card is the fact that a lot of people forget that they run a little life gain in their deck, like Boros for example. and they usually don't care to block it. so when they cast Lightning Helix, they feel stupid because all it is now is an expensive lightning bolt. ;D The happens for cards like Tendrils of corruption. Makes me giggle. ^.^

I like that i wasn't the only thinking about an Emblem
@ratchet I would assume that emblem is for . . positive effect for the controller . . not to be given to your opponent for negative effect. It doesn't really fit the flavor.

I love this card. Solid 2 drop that shuts down lifelink mechanic, which can be one of the most OP in the game.

I run this guy just for the art sometimes. Easily makes it into whatever RDW style deck I'm trying to pull. A 2/2 for 2 is fine, and wither makes it good, double strike from something like Assault Strobe makes him insane, and if they ever want life gain, too friggin bad
4.5/5 from me.

Yeah, isn't this the reason they made emblems?

Its like wither on you. Plus it should make an emblem now.

The reason the WotC team said he doesn't need to make an emblem is that a continuous effect works just fine in this situation because it never has to affect a new object - that player will be there for as long as the effect is relevant. But with Elspeth, the effect has to deal with new game objects such as creatures you cast after the effect happened - so it needs an emblem to keep telling new objects about the rule.
^^ I hope I explained that ok

@ratchet1215 Emblems are for planeswalkers. Pretty sure emblems weren't even thought of when this set came out.

This guy essentially had infect before infect even existed!
No actions taken in the game that was restarted apply to the new game. For example, if you were dealt damage by Stigma Lasher in the original game, the effect that states you can't gain life doesn't carry over to the new game.
I think this guy is great, wither keeps him from being any generic 2/2, but his special ability is definitely something that could keep you on the edge of your seat. The only reason I can't rate it so highly is that there are many cards that can answer to him and he has to deal the damage directly. Also, for those touting that he really "sticks it to White decks", they kind of do have Ethereal Haze, Pacifism, Abeyance, Orim's Chant, Bonds of Faith, Oblivion Ring, etc. so there is still time to answer.
A good combo would also be Skullcrack into the Power of Fire if they do run damage prevention.

Stupid and broken. Discourages card interactions, discourages whole deck interactions, and pretty much guarantees victory against lifegain all the way in the metagame, making the actual match fairly pointless. Also, did lifegain really need this kind of hosing? Between this and Kavu Predator, why does the weakest deck archetype have the most intense hate in the game?

Yikes. There was some scary stuff in the Lorwyn block. Am I the only one here who thinks this card's effect is rather severe for a 2-mana creature? There should have been some way of removing the evil effect. Bad card design, sorry.
With life gain actually being stronger than it used to be nowadays, Stigma Lasher is a pretty good card. shuts down ALL lifegain, and unless they can restart the game somehow, You have a major advantage.
Also, a 2/2 wither isn't that bad either. Remember, all you need is ONE. UNBLOCKED. ATTACK.
