it makes swamps. A great build-around-me card. The art too is exquisite

Strange to have a card called Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth and a card called Urborg.

Sounds like a good card, but does it turn your opponent's cards into swamps as well?

@ LordReth

Yepp, sure. Since it sais "Each land..." it affects absolutely every land on the table. So swampwalk is granted I'd say! :-)

Even when he's dead, Yawgmoth makes powerful cards.

@ bouchart: Urgborg is before the Apocalypse, this is after the Legacy Weapon killed Yawgmoth when he manifested

Combo with Dark Depths and Vampire Hexmage to put out a turn 2 flying, indestructable 20/20 Marit Lage token! Fun times.

This combo has seen plenty of Pro Tour action already!

One good synergy would be using this with other lands that profit from Swamps like Cabal Coffers, or the Tainted cycle for multicolored decks.
Or you could use Filth to make your creatures unblockable.
And you'll have some suicide fun if you combine this one by spashing white with Stern Judge, or even Karma if you are able to reverse the damage.
Kormus Bell would turn every land into 1/1 creatures with that tomb - possibly you'd then also like using Goblin Sharpshooter with this one as well to cause a one-sided Armageddon.
And this card can of course turn any Lands that do not produce mana into useful mana accel.
The latest and likely most effective use of this card for example, as aforementioned by Pantheon, is playing this on turn one in order to play Dark Depths and immediately Vampire Hexmage on the second turn to get out Marit Lage even earlier.

This lets you use cards like Corrupt in a multicolor deck.

Use this for a first turn to Entomb Filth.

It mostly made tendrils of corruption a tournament card as well as letting you put Korlash, heir to blackblade into multicolored decks. As for the helping your opponents thing, that is very unimportant. What is bad though is that it is legendary so If you topdeck another one, you better have a good discard card. Also your if your opponent is a mean little gremlin, he will use Vesuva to Strip mine it.

Does this make all land a basic land now that it is a swamp?
Can I kill this with Tectonic Edge?

Don't forget that it makes itself a swamp, so its not just there for looks.

Every one of your Swamps is now a Swamp in addition to a Swamp.

Great for Tendrils of Corruption/Corrupt and Swampwalking.

I love the flavor-text hint towards the "Infect" mechanic in the upcoming scars of mirrodin. Wizards is sooo clever ;) or maybe they didn't even realize it? Well in any case I was probably the first one to find it, being a huge fan of Yawgmoth and Phyrexia :)

@Pantheon
you could throw in a Sol Ring to get an a lightning greaves on the field as well.. unlikely opening hand... of course... so this is just a thought to fill your extra deck slots while giving a shot at a T2 win instead of a T3 path to exile or some such removal

Extremely useful if you are choosing to include colorless/non-mana lands in your mono-black deck such as quicksand or rishadan port or maze of ith.

does this card make swamps 'swamp swamp'? If so, would it count double for cards that care about the number of swamps?

Edit:; I'm fairly sure that they would be swamp swamps, but not count double. As they only check for how many permanents you have of type swamp, not how many type swamps there are among permanents you control.

So basically you give everyone swampwalk, major mana fixing, and you can tap for mana right when it comes into play...if this thing isn't comborific, I don't know what is!

this also becomes a swamp so you can tap it for mana right?

Yawgmoth was so evil... I was so happy when Karn killed him. I wish Urza hadn't died, though.

Question... It says "each land", not "each land in play". Does this mean it also effects cards in your library? If that's the case you could use Perilous Forays to pull any land.

@helluin: I was wondering the same thing, actually. But more for Corpse Harvester in the planechase Zombie deck.

This land is just awesome. Also allows for you to use Lake of the Dead in decks that aren't mono-black.

After seeing what happened to Mirrodin, the flavor text makes me wonder if the line about his "blood" infecting the land spells future disaster for Dominaria.

I can't think of any other card that has this much utility for this little opportunity cost. Playing multicolored black? This takes care of a big chunk of you mana fixing. Got lands without mana abilities (even if you're not playing black)? Well, now they do. Got any nonbasics, and anything that counts the number of swamps you have? This will help. Swampwalk creatures? Now they're unblockable. And it fits painlessly into any deck that runs black: Just replace one swamp with it.

There's almost no reason that you shouldn't run at least one in any deck with black in it; just take out a Swamp and put one of these in. Making your Islands and Forests into duals is a small but real advantage.

Stern Judge and Phyrexian Unlife and this would be an interesting combo. Since Stern Judge causes loss of life rather than damage, you wouldn't get poison counters from Phyrexian Unlife.

Play with Kaalia of the Vast, Magus of the Moon, Rakdos Signet (non-land source of both colors), and some graveyard skullduggery. You can now switch the land 'on' (Mountains = Fire and Dragons and lulz) or 'off' (Swamps = Zombies and Death and lulz). Mana Screwing everyone that doesn't have Signets or Talismans. This might lead to some slight animosity, so just in case....Ajani Vengeant.

And since it's a Kaalia, you have the angels' full approval. They might not have their jobs for very much longer though xD

Yes, this is probably the jerkiest idea ever. Happens to be on color with Armageddon in case you are not unpopular enough :)

No, swamps that turn into swamps are just swamps. Although, if that were the case, prismatic omen would turn your swamp swamps into swamp swamp swamps (more accurately, swamp swamp swamp forest mountain plains islands). Hilarous

@helluin: "Each land" implicitly means "Each land permanent," so this would not apply to lands anywhere except on the battlefield.

Use Kormus Bell to turn all Lands into 1/1 Black creatures. Then Curse of Death’s Hold, Marsh Casualties, or Festering March to wipe out all of the opponent's lands.

This plus Consume Spirit Nirkana Revenant in a black/green deck with alot of land untap creatures.

@DarthParallax

that wouldn't work because Magus of the Moon would turn Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth into a mountain thus negating its ability. So you'd only have mountains. Cool idea, but sadly won't work.

@Nucleon: Doubt it, they just made crap up with that. The oil didn't originally do anything, at least not if it was the same oil that rained down in the first sphere. That whole oil thing either didn't exist, or was never mentioned until the first Mirrodin block.

(Yes, I know it doesn't actually work that way.)
