An great card in cool factor and playability. Works well in both Extended zombie decks and Standard (at his printing) black decks. Like a Nightmare with regenerate and the ability to stay alive. Works well with Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, Lord of the Undead, and Obsidian Battleaxe.

Nothing beats a creature that can pump itself to massive levels, thin your library, avoid death, and look so cool.
My favorite card to use with Korlash is definitely Lord of the Undead.

Fish out swamps then play Nightmare Incursion & any other 'number of Swamps you control' spells. Works good for me

It's a future sight card with the future borders. Get your playset now before he gets reprinted to avoid the rush! He is the only Grandeur card worth abusing, especially in mono-black.

Extremely nice Grandeur ability, exactly what legendary creatures need. Extra copies will never be dead cards - Zombies or not!

Way too awesome in flavour, power, mechanics and fun factor. Like a playable legendary nightmare with a great grandeur ability, regenerate and a very reasonable casting cost. Can't wait until they reprint this...

A COMPLETE better version of Nightmare, Regen instead of Flying and cost FOUR instead of six XD Nightmare is so obsolete now, it aint even funny!
Such an awesome mana pump card XD

It's good, but I think I prefer a good pun over this.

All the Grandeur abilitys are awesome, but this? Double-swampcycling on a creature with power and toughness equal to the number of swamps you control? That's awesome with an extra dose of awesome. Pure Liquid Awesome. Landsearching is not a black ability, so having it on a 4-mana black creature...

This is my absolute favourite card. Future border, references to the original powerhouse Dakkon Blackblade, and a stylish mechanic. Why anyone even uses the regular version is beyond me given how incredibly awesome the Prerelease version looks in foil with RFK's best piece on it. I spent the entire Time Spiral prerelease trying to figoure out how I could get four of him in a deck.

Mono-black aggro/control deck WIN.

I'm a fan of minimalism. Less is more. Laziness prevails.

Insane The Art Is Outstanding The Future Border Is Sweet Plus Its A ZOMBIE Auto Fit Mos Def But For 4 Mana He's Probably Allready Gonna Be A 4/4 And He Regenerates! Plus He Puts All His Other Copies To Work Big Time Yeah This HEIR Would Destroy The Orig 6 out of 5

Such a deceptively simple card that has so many synergies. Beautiful design. And you can grow it by two power/toughness at instant speed if you have a second copy, or ramp more swamps for a game-ending Corrupt/Mind Sludge. Fantastic.

Why does this have a 4.8 rating? I understand that it's good, it's just not THAT good.

His Grandeur ability gives me an idea for a mono-black Madness deck that partially revolves around Korlash.

Grandeur is discard, not exile, so my idea includes these cards:

Call to the Netherworld
Death Denied,
Macabre Waltz
Grave Scrabbler

After you've used Korlash's Grandeur once or twice, it's time to use Disturbed Burial. You'll have enough swamps keep putting Korlash back into your hand.

Run with Tortured Existence and Squee, Goblin Nabob. Discard the Sqee to get Korlash into hand use Grandeur then the Squee comes back into hand on your next turn...Also can be done at instant speed.

I believe "Legends sequel" is one of the ideas they really want to do. I hope so, because this card is awesome and Grandeur is a stunning piece of design.

The REALLY cool thing about this card is that the artist who did the original Dakkon Blackblade also did the prerelease version of Korlash!

I disagree with the comments saying that is is a better version of nightmare.

sure nightmare cost 2 more to play... but that made it a 6/6 flyer in mono black. Korlash, even with grandeur, is just a 6/6, it can be chump blocked all day, it doesn't have trample. if it had trample it would be another story. so repeat grandeur as many times as you want... it still would be chumped by any blocker, and especially if that blocker had regen.

not saying its a bad card, i just think nightmare is a notch above it.

it does awesome things for legendary creatures, gives a purpose to having multiple copies, and it does do a lovely job with mana acceleration.

I think Regeneration is better overall than flying, but it really depends on the deck which is better between this and Nightmare.

Crap yes this guy is my Bro General forever. He is a tank and a half. So what if he costs 10BB by the time the game's over? I can rely on him to be a powerhouse and to stick around except for the heaviest of destruction/sacrifice, despite most of that coming from me.

5/5 for sure

I have had this combo happen a couple times when playing my mono-black Zombie deck...

Korlash and a Woebearer are on the battlefield. There is also another copy of Korlash in my hand. Discard Korlash to search for two Swamps and put them into play tapped. Attack with Woebearer and deal combat damage to an opposing player. I return Korlash to my hand. Repeat.

Skip the part where you're wondering whether Korlash or Nightmare is better and stick both of them into your deck.

Great synergy with Ghoulcaller's Chant.
Allow you to return two Korlash in your hands for only one mana. Grandeur two time to put 4 tapped swamp in play.

Amazing creature. If you're playing with mostly swamps, he can come out as at least a 3/3 or 4/4 regenerator. Furthermore, he then turns all other copies of himself into TWO FREE SWAMP-ONLY RAMPANT GROWTHS AT INSTANT SPEED.

That is why he's so highly rated.

Oh Korlash, how I love thee. Let me count the ways:
1. You are a Zombie. Zombies are such a fun tribe.
2. You hare both strong and durable. No cheap deaths for you, even if you can be chumped.
3. Other copies of you have a unique purpose: Black mana ramp. And with the right cards, especially Call to the Netherworld, you make for an incredible platform for accelerating that which black has little for.
4. You just overall look badass, and you manage to make the Future Shifted frame look outrageously classy and badass.

Heck this is way better than nightmare. It's got a lower mana cost and it ramps up your swamps. That with the regenerate, and nightmare doesn't even come close. The only thing thing that makes nightmare even close is flying.

Korlash, I would like you to meet your bride: Liliana of the Dark Realms. May you two live a long and happy unlife 'till death (again) or lack of loyalty do you part.

One of my friends plays a mono black deck around this guy, and I must say he's a real bugger to deal with. If he stays out long enough, he will win the game. Your best bet is to exile him, but I find it more amusing to use a Quicksilver Fountain or two to gradually strangle him to death.

@ ROBRAM89: There was a Legends sequel. It was called "Kamigawa Block" :p

Korlash, though, is amazing. ends up working pretty well with just about everything, but especially Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth. Not too shabby with Liliana either since she seems to like doing swamp based stuff

With one of him on the field and one of him in your deck, Diabolic Tutor can be a Ranger's Path for black.

if you have Korlash, Heir to Blackblade in play, if you add and activate Cabal Coffers would Korlash become 5/5 or 10/10 when you have 5 swamps on the field?

Wicked. Absolutely wicked. Only had three for the longest time and finally nabbed a pre-re copy for my fourth. Rebuilt the deck as ' Kor-Lash-Writhe'. Wow. I've created a monster... Easily one of my favorite cards. Especially the pre-re foil...you'd have to fight me to the death to get that from me...

As astounding as it sounds, he's my Favorite General. I love the Art, he's one of the few "Heroic" Type warrior Legendary card that Magic as that can get behind, the other one was Dakkon Blackblade.
My friend told me he's an awful general or something like that. And objectively he's not the leader type that is going to boost your team or your deck. His grandeur ability is even useless in Commander.

As a commander he as a low profile and is often dismissed by other players before the game start and he also force you to play black only and artifacts.

My deck as lots of massive creature destruction spells and artifacts, some of which Korlash can regenerate from and live.

I try to deplete my opponents Hand, wipe the board when I can.

And then I send him in. After blowing a board, Kresh comes back as a 3/3, but often Korlash is ready to go as a 10/10 or more.

And you can send Korlash in the Red zone relentlessly knowing he will most likely take something down and survive.

And he's cheap to recast, with cabal coffer around he can keep coming back for a long time.

Very good with infernal tutor. 6 total mana = Korlash + 2 rampant growths, can make your t2 tutor a ridiculous t4 play

Also, Tortured existence turns every creature in your hand into a "{B}: Entwined Journey of Discovery", especially with ravnica shock lands.

Also, you can granduer off of reanimation mind you; so he's the easiest to granduer between that and black's Rituals and black's extensive tutoring. Imagine an Exhume, Shallow Grave, or similar on T2, for 2 cards you ramp two swamps. Next turn if you simply Ghoulcaller's you can get them both back, cast one of them, then granduer the other again!

It can't just be me who sees this. Take a look at Korlash, isn't he eerily like a Chaos Warrior, or Chaos Chosen or really ANYTHING wearing Chaos armour? If we don't count Forsaken that is.
