I love the phyrexia vs. coalition pack! Everyone should pick this up, seriously. It has so many great cards, and some amazing classics!

4 mana is kinda expensive for a kill spell, but the life gain is not irrelevant when used in monoblack (or with Urborg). That it scales with your mana is icing on the cake.

In a mono black you get at least 4 damage and 4 life for a +8 differential at 4 mana. Each mana gets you +2 life differential which is amazing. Throwing this out late in the game can swing the whole momentum to your favor!

@BiOhyBr: Not in all cases. Corrupt can deal damage to players as well, which usually results in it being a better late-game card when you need to finish your opponent.

That said, I find it slightly amusing that while the legal target options are about the only difference between the two cards function-wise (Aside from mana costs and one being an Instant and the other a Sorcery), the cards explain their effects so differently.

The lifegain is pretty significant, and in a deck with enough swamps (or reliable Urborg) it's worth the 2 mana extra over more reliable kill spells like Go for the Throat. I personally run it in a very-creature-light MBC deck, and it helps keep me alive until my card advantage engines take over and win the game.

@Keiya: If you look at the original printing (Time Spiral), the flavor text is about some dark swamp monster thing, just like the flavor text on all printings of Corrupt. So the differences are not all that great.

I use it in my Toshiro Umezawa EDH deck. For 8 mana I can often kill two things and gain 16 life. At that point the lifegain becomes relevant. Overall, the best thing about this card is instant speed. Almost all good killspells are instant speed, and cost 3 or less. While this one is a little too expensive, the attached lifegain is often great. Can work in multicolor decks thanks to shocklands.
