that's the reason why i play acall. to shrinken my deck. not to actually draw cards. in fact the best is when i play it with 8 cards in hand so i just have to discard. but it still shrinkens my deck good. mate. MATE.

Yer, that's why glimpse the unthinkable is such a good card. it shrinkens your deck by 10 for only TWO SMALL BLUE/BLACK MANA!

You can give any sorcery wanted instant-speed for one tiny blue mana with that. Sounds like a fair trade.
It also in some way slightly shrinkens the deck size, but as ttian said, that's rather negligible normally^^

A cheap cantrip like this can of course also be useful if you run cards that profit from drawing.

And as Vektor hinted, Isochron Scepter is another card that works nice with that card as well.

I also like the fact that they printed a white version of this for creatures.

@Hydrogoose and ttian: I concede that mentioning the shrinking option was rather dumb and is most often negligible, but i was thinking about the Baubles at that time, which can sorta shrink your deck at the cost of a delayed card draw to increase the chance of getting the cards you want for several desired combos. Of course this isn't worth the effort in most cases, but Hydrogoose apparently didn't get that one, since Glimpse doesn't really work that way.

This card is great, because some sorceries are sorceries for a reason. ;)

Only problem with this card is not having a good sorcery in hand. I like to throw this down and then Slave of Bolas during an opponent's turn. But if nothing else, drawing a card for one blue mana is always nice if you're caught in a tight spot for cards.

takes the suck out of so many cards that are just too slow. plus the cantrip.... overall, i like it!

My favorite memory with one of these involved a HUGE multiplayer counterspell war against a massive Brightflame. I played the Quicken and layed down a Grapeshot and took out a few of the control players ^^

wow you guys are morons, shrinking the deck isnt bad at all. It means that if the card is a dead card, at least it helps you cycle. Thats what casting it more or less is. And I hope you can see the value in cycle.

Hmmmm....
Flame Slashing stuff at instant speed, while others get automatically Electrolyzed thanks to Spellweaver Volute, oh, and my Quest for Pure Flame is halfway finished thanks to that Leyline of Lightning that everyone seems to shun, and all this while Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind lazily makes some barbeque out of whatever 's at the other side of the red zone, and having spent no cards... 'Cause the aforementioned Flame Slash was actually Cast Through Time. Yes please!

You attack me for 30 trampling damage? In response I play quicken and then play shahrazad. Now, would like to go ahead and pay half your life now since most of your creatures and buffs will not be in this subgame? Good choice, good choice. Oh, but that took you down to 6 life! Double lightning bolt, GG.

SHRINKEN is not a word. Describing the effect of making something smaller is said 'shrinks.' The use of baubles and cantrips SHRINKS your decks. Jesus Christ...go back to school and get your money back...they OBVIOUSLY failed you. (figuratively, not literally)

Card is great, I hadn't previously viewed shrinkening my deck as advantagilicious.

This card's such a home run for so many reasons. It's flexible, cheap (in mana and in price), it replaces itself, and the art and flavor text are simply perfect.

What a great card!

This card allows some of the most epic play in the game! The fact that is an instant (instead of an Enchantment or an Artifact) bring the surprise factor at the highest level! The draw-a-card "side-effect" allow it to replace itself and sometimes that can even be the main effect, if you want to cycle it.
Just perfect!

I played this in High Tide combo so I could play Time Spiral during my upkeep, after using all of my Reset and Turnabout effects. It also lets you do very interesting things, such as putting Time Spiral on the stack, then playing Quicken, then playing Time Spiral. You resolve the first, play all the instants in your hand, then resolve the second.

QUESTION: Does Quicken work on Equip costs on artifacts already on the battlefield? I only ask because those equip costs are so often specifically described as being playable only when you can play a sorcery.

Here's my reasoning: You play Quicken. Assuming it resolves without being countered, at that moment, you are now "at a time you can play a sorcery" or you can then "Equip ***AS A*** Sorcery"? Right?

If that's right, think of all the horrifying surprises you can give an opponent during his/her turn when they think a particularly annoying piece of equipment is out of play because it's not equipped to a creature when your turn ends or the creature to which it is attached is tapped. Surestrike Trident suddenly lands on a key defender of yours, enabling you to tap and hit your opponent directly at a vulnerable moment. Or perhaps one of those hexproof-providing artifacts suddenly lands on the defender your opponent is targeting with some nasty spell during his turn. I'm not a pro, so I'm sure you guys can think of much deadlier combos with Equipment (assuming my reading of the application of Quicken is right).

Annoyilator No you can't. You can only play a sorcery during your main phase when there is no spell on the stack. Since equip acts like a sorcery , however is not a sorcery this does not work. Same thing if you give a sorcery flash, it doesn't ean you can equip at flash speed

Blue/red is hilarious, because Dragonstorm is a thing, and blue gives red the tools to make itself hilarious.

Yeah, I guess we can try sticking this on an Isochron Scepter and then, once your opponent is topdecking, Raven's Crime each card they draw.

...too harsh?

Put down one Epic spell, then quicken another Epic spell on the stack. Epic ability says "for the rest of the game, you can't cast spells" but shouldn't come into effect until one resolves, at which point, I've already cast the other, just waiting to resolve.

I'm going to Show and Tell, in response Quicken, now I'll cast Timetwister with the Show and Tell still on the stack.

Seems silly to me.

Step 1: Cast Gut Shot.
Step 2: Cast Quicken while Gut Shot is on the stack. Let it resolve.
Step 3: Cast Worldfire while Gut Shot is still on the stack.
Step 4: Let Worldfire resolve.
Step 5: Cackle madly.

Drop a Worldpurge with something already on the stack. Or prepare your Doomsday setup at the end of your opponent's turn.

Play this and then play Shahrazad right before your opponent swings for the win.
Then just keep casting Shahrazad in the subgames, until your opponent times out.

Hilarious with things like Temporal Fissure. "Oh.. you cast 3 spells? Quicken, Bounce all your lands.. my turn..?"

@Ideatog

That wouldn't work, As the damage applies before WorldFire would take affect, I know since I tried the same thing in a tournament. though if you cast world fire, they can promptly use a Sudden Disappearance and win the game with overkill. however, there are burn cards that deal damage on their next turn, like Rift Bolt that would win.

@Pyromage1222

Yes, it would work. The gut shot was on the stack before the Worldfire was cast at instant speed because of the Quicken. Worldfire doesn't remove spells from the stack, so the Gut Shot was still waiting to resolve after the Worldfire resolved, so as soon as the Gut Shot resolves, unless he pulls off some lifegain, the opponent loses.

The Sudden Disappearance didn't work because Sudden Disappearance is a sorcery and as such can't be placed on the stack above other spells without the help of something like Quicken. If you had cast the Disappearance before the worldfire, it would have worked. If you had given the Disappearance flash, it would have worked.
