It says you can pay the 1 once per spell, but what if you have multiple Leyline of Lightnings in play?

You can pay 1 once for every copy you have in play, like the old Soul Net and Ivory Cup

You guys have this card all wrong. I thought you could only pay 1 mana per spell too. Then I called Wizards and they told me that ALL open mana can be used each time a spell is played triggering this ability, that right ALL the rest of your mana... 1 damage each. That is why this card is rare. Absolutely devistating.

You called the wrong wizards. Or did it in your sleep...

With 2011, Leyline of Punishment is the new red Leyline. Which is better, that or this?

Tommybthe1: read the spells details. You can only pay it once per spell.

That said, a useful card nonetheless.

I believe that you can only pay 1 colorless mana per spell, The question that I have is, can you play a card that has replicate such as Train of Thought and then pay an additional colorless mana for each time the spell was replicated?

Nope, you can't take advantage of spells with replicate. You can only take advantage of copies when the effect creating them specifically states that you cast them. For example, Spellweaver Volute and Chandra Ablaze's ultimate work with Leyline of Lightning, whereas a leveled-up Echo Mage doesn't.

The worst leyline even worse then Leyline of the Meek... Target player only?

What is it with Wizards hosing so many cards that could have been great...

Good with War Elemental. Pay the one and he doesn't sac, making him easy to keep around without an instant spell. Add in leyline of punishment or stigma lasher and you'll be happy to knock off any health. I'm sure this is at 2.5ish because people didn't actually use it.

Pretty bad compared to other leylines... 1 for 1 damage is pretty meh burn, early game it encourages tapping out which is a reckless playstyle, late game you're playing red so you don't have many cards in hand and it won't get much use.

Only 1 damage? No creatures? More like Leyline of Static Electricity.

Here is why this card is good. Check out Lightning Bolt, Shock, and Burst Lightning. According to Wizards 1 cmc is worth 2-3 damage but 4 burn damage is worth 5 cmc in the case of Burst Lightning at instant speed or 5 damage for 5cmc at Sorcery speed. How about 4 damage for 2cmc at instant speed? Doesn't sound to bad now not to mention no matter what you cast you can guarantee you ping your opponents life total for one and that can make a difference especially if you aren't pulling all the cards you want or don't have the mana to play every card you want. Not to mention this was originally a Ravnica card. Pair this up with two Gelectrodes and your 1{R} Lightning bolt for 3 becomes a 2{R} torrent for 8 damage.

Pretty underrated in a dedicated burn deck. One life for {1} and no cards is a pretty decent deal. It's swung a few games for me. 4/5

2/1/2006 You may pay the {1} only once per spell.

That's straight from the rulings, just thought i would clear it up for you all.

It's a bit like the new Extort mechanic.

Use this with Grinning Ignus and you have a cheap hecatomb

Other than that you could make a interesting artifact deck with ornis and memnites

If you replicate a spell, you can't pay an extra mana. Replicated or otherwise copied spells and abilities aren't cast or activated, see the "copying objects" rules on MTG Salvation Wiki

dam. You couldn't ask for a more straight forward burn enhancer, and for potentially 0 mana... This card is likely to survive the entirety of most ordinary matches.
