When I first saw this, I thought it was a strictly better Soul's Fire. Then I realized it only hits creatures. Not a bad tradeoff for . Play with Purphoros, God of the Forge for extra flavor points.

More vulnerable to devastating responses from opponents than direct removal is, but still gets the job done most of the time.

Oh wow, and I thought Pit Fight was a great addition to red decks. But hey, all those high power, low toughness dudes in red that couldn't fight well now can really get the job done. Go get 'em, Cyclops of One-eyed Pass!

@Lord_of_Tresserhorn: Not the only musical reference you could make regarding this card. A certain Queen song about waiting for the hammer to fall, for one.

Where the hammer meets the anvil, don't get stuck in between.

One-sided fight is better than the alternative. Still, this feels very much like a green card other than the name. Which is interesting considering only green would run this as red has much better ways to deal with creatures--ie. burn. I see this has a 4 star rating so I can only assume those people rated this based on Limited only since outside of that it's worse than pretty much any 2-mana burn red has.

May I pick that up for you? You seem to have dropped it.

4/5 Solid Removal most of the time for red. What's not to like? I see this almost like Doom Blade except red, and dependent on you controlling strong creatures rather than the target being the right color. Fire-breathing creatures probably will go well with this as well. Doom Blade is still better for those large creatures I suppose though, but this is also common.
I like how this illustrates the tendency of the gods in this set - they're powerful, and vengeful, and scared but that combination means innocents get hurt in the process. A little disappointed that the flavor of the card doesn't actually reflect that. Ie - damage equal to its power and half that much damage to another creature chosen at random that player controls. Ah well, its beautiful anyway and going straight into my deathtouch first strike deck. It never liked fighting anyway.

This card is bonkers in limited. RG with a couple heroic creatures makes for such massive value.
Fall of the Hammer compares favorably to Blood and Pit Fight. If that Gruul devotion/monstrous deck becomes competitive, I'm sure this will see standard play with Xenagos, God of Revels and maybe Thunderous Might.

Essentially, this is a one-sided, instant-speed, Red Prey Upon for .
Even without Deathtouch, you can use this on your First Strike creature when your creature didn't have enough power to kill a certain creature (since damage goes away at the end of turn). There have been many times when I combo'ed this with Rise to the Challenge.
Also, this works with Heroic. Dealing 6 damage to a creature while also being able to give 3 +1/+1 counters to your Centaur Battlemaster for is game-changing.
As much as I'd like to not bring too much attention to this card (since I've noticed people don't draft these that often), this card should be early-picked.

With all the firebreathing and +X/+0 in red right now (Thunderous Might comes to mind) we've got a good chance of a hammer smashing in some face.

Strictly better than the hybrid costed version Pit Fight.

This + Agent of the Fates= opponent's out two creatures for three mana and one card. ouch.

I could be wrong on this one, but I think they were originally planning to create a cycle of instants that were essentially the effects of the gods weapons. All that seems to remain is this and Lash of the Whip.

@JailedWanderer They could just sacrifice the creature that is targeted by this spell.

edit: Just realized this also triggers Heroic!

In limited with things like Baleful Eidolon or Sedge Scorpion, it's basically just a kill spell.
