Ah, but Thunder Strike couldn't be played in Theros limited! Now it sort of can. Functional reprints, and all that.

It's funny, because many people don't consider how dangerous unexpected first strike is in Limited.

Remember that Limited is a game of card efficiency. The winner is the person who can utilize their cards best. You could have a 10/10 Nemesis of Mortals, but it won't matter if they have a Sedge Scorpion. They can hold off a creature which cost you a minimum GreenGreenGreenGreen with just Green. The scorpion's owner benefits most.

Now what if you were able to save your scorpion? What if you could have your cake and eat it too? Rise to the Challenge is exactly that: a cake paradox breaker.

Sure, you used one of your slots in your deck for a very situational piece of removal, but you can get rid of something without losing something yourself.

Also, this card helps heroic, which can make this a 2-for-1.
