My favorite card from Theros. That art is stunning.

Great art and all, but at first glance, the worst mythic in terms of power level and playability. The monstrous cost is way out there, even for what might amount to a Plague Wind.

May see betterment if more Gorgon tribal gets printed in Born of the Gods and Journey to Nyx.

Interesting side note: Monstrous, she kills you exactly in three hits if a commander.

Gorgon tribal EDH?! Yes, please.

Apart from tribal edh, you could build a low-on-creatures mono black deck that benefits from death.
Damnation on 7/9 commander-damaging legs is nothing to scoff at.
Then again, she doesn't exactly have legs, so...

Disgustingly overcosted, lazily designed junk mythic.

Training Grounds can help reduce her Monstrosity ability cost and get that boardwipe out faster. Perhaps in the next two sets, cards will be printed that also lessen the monstrosity ability cost requirements.

Until then, sadly she will most likely only be included in casual or edh decks, the same as many other Timmy cards. I agree with everyone else though, that art is amazing, and she definitely has a place in my Golgari edh deck =)

Okay, so I may be putting myself out there for some serious hate,
But does anyone else see the Iron Throne from Game of Thrones?
Go ahead and look up the image, with Ned Stark sitting there all poised.

We went from 7 Gorgons in the entirety of Magic to 12 with just the release of Theros. Excellent.
Keep 'em comin', Wizards. Wouldn't mind seeing a few more Basilisks either ;)

I'm an old veteran player.

But Wizards just goes on and print stuff like this that awakens the Timmy inside of me! I mean destroy all others and I get to keep my BIG creature just for an insane amount of mana?! COUNT ME IN!!

5/5 for that!

I dig that art. Mythic gorgon sitting on a pile of petrified chumps.

I love me some gorgons. And this set already has a great start with 4 wonderful gorgons. Some people seem to think that this hints to a gorgon tribal. I doubt it, personally. Masked Gorgon cared about gorgons and we never got anything else to make it a tribe. Although I think it would be cool to have a gorgon tribe. I'm not going to hold my breath. More gorgons are always loved. And I personally like seeing Gorgons as a Big type like Dragon, Demon, Angel, Hydra, Kraken or Sphinx. They don't need a Tribal. They are just awesome as is. Making small 1/2 gorgons or what ever might be good in limited but I personally feel that it devalues the coolness factor of the creature type.

My son just opened 2 of these in a single pack. One of them is foil. He is 8 and got a box of Theros for his birthday from his grandmother. Yeah, I am jealous of my 8 year olds cards!

Is she called Hythonia because of all the hithing thnaketh on her head?

I usually build decks based on the mechanics alone, but Hythonia is awakening the Vorthos in me. I'm going to build a gorgon deck! I'll just slip a few Volatile Rigs in.

Hmmmm ... It has potential, if only it didn't cost so much to activate.

I don't even like Game of Thrones and that's what i immediately thought of

I pulled one today and she went straight into my golgari deck, next to the Vastwood Hydra and the Death's Presences

I want her to be the general of a gorgon tribal EDH deck... but even putting aside the fact that there aren't really enough gorgons to make one (There are a total of 12 gorgon creatures currently in existence in all of Magic), her color identity isn't right, with gorgons typically being BG and one even being BUG. Sisters of Stone Death or Damia, Sage of Stone are the better options for general here. Still, she'd make a great addition, and I'm hoping the rest of Theros sees a bit more gorgon tribal so I can really get the deck running.

@Goatllama Yeah, a Damnation that leaves a 7/9 on the board. With her friends. That's worth the same amount of mana.

Mythic? Really? I'm not seeing it. Cool design and all, but not mythic per my opinion. If the monstrous cost 4 (Damnation reference, of course), THAT would be mythic.
And yes. A Damnation that takes two turns to go off. Hell, make the monstrous cost 5. Just anything but 8.

If you can afford 10 mana and you're playing white, cast a shields of velis vel before making her monstrous for a one sided sweep :)
