Flexible, powerful, and works as a great finisher! Very underrated right now, and will probably be better than Rakdos's Return against many of the creature-heavy, aggro decks in Standard right now

Red already has plenty of ways to sweep the board so adding a green to potentially get a 3 for 1 including someone's biggest threats that are out of Slagstorms reach seems awesome.

Wow! This card is nuts! It's insanely good!
I just hope that the price range doesn't go too high, otherwise I wouldn't be able to afford it... :(

I'm going Gruul at the prerelease just to pull one of these. So insanely good.

Absolutely awesome card. All hail the phrase "choose one OR MORE".

Has a really nice interaction with the new Boros Reckoner. It will deal 2x as much damage to your opponent! In Naya, you'd probably want to run both of these cards anyway, so if you stumble on the combo, all the better.

Clan Defiance, aka "Punch Everything". Now THAT is what a Gruul spell should do!

Any X spell that could strike up to three targets is automatically a powerful one, although I wouldn't mind this card being an instant, or have the option to strike all flying/nonflying creatures.

Oh great, another Bonfire -_-

With how much flying creatures dominate the game, this is going to frequently have two targets and direct damage is just icing on the cake. I would be excited about this even if it said choose up to two.

Aurelia's Fury is getting all the ink, but this card actually seems better to me. Even if you just nail your opponent and one of his creature for a wad of damage, that's great. It's like a Profane Command in green. But if you can manage your opponent and two of his creatures? Shoot, that's like Bonfire of the Damned off miracle.

Gruul's chase rare of the set. Takes out multiple targets and damages players, this is a versatile card.

As I was reading this card I heard a squeal of joy come from one of my commander deck boxes. Pretty sure it was Rosheen Meanderer expressing her glee.

It's like some ridiculous x spell Arc Lightning. Take out a Shaman, a Delver and Shock your opponent for 4 mana?

Being Gruul, I use creatures, not spells.
But if I did use spells, this would definitely be one of them.

@ Kirbster: I like them both, but sadly I don't see this killing Obzedat anytime soon.

Ok, how many times are you NOT going to choose "Deal X to player"?

Green Burn Spells.

Yep.

Choose one or more... Hm? What did you say, Boros Reckoner? Oh, you want me to deal damage to target player twice? Okay, if you say so.

Imo if this was an instant it would outclass Aurelia's Fury. At least this one won't put quite the same dent in your pocket.

A beautiful amalgamation of two timeless cards from Alpha, Earthquake and Hurricane.

I actually expected this card to have a higher rating. (Currently it's around 3.75)

You always get to target any creature (since it's bound to either have or not have flying) as well as a player, in addition there's the chance of even hitting a third target!

And still you can choose to only hit one target, in case targeting the others comes with a drawback, or if there isn't a creature out there to choose from.
Also it's worth noting that targets do in no way require to be related - in multiplayer, you could target player A, a creature from player B and even your own creature!

A very dynamic and interesting burn spell, and overall great design!

This card is ok, it's not super good outside of block though. Rolling Earthquake anyone?

This isn't too bad - atomise at least one creature and hurt a player in the process. Green ramp ought to make this hurt.

What flavor is this? Is Gruul defying Gruul? Because if it is, then that could be a good reason why Blackworm_Bloodworm doesn't want to play this card--he feels too loyal.

Give Stuffy Doll flying, I say.

Potentially better than Comet Storm when you have little mana available and really not as versatile when you have plenty

This is a very cool card, but I think given the not so much creeping but rather the full on motorcycle charge of the powerlevel of certain cards in this set, wizards clearly have a favourite colour.

Even if you can only choose 1 creature and your opponent this is a great card.

I don't always slap my enemies in the face, but when I do I, I prefer to do it three times.

I will have two boros reckoners, and give one of them flying, then cast this spell.

...then my life will be complete.

Stacks up nicely in the Comet Storm comparison, saving up to two mana in exchange for sorcery speed and targeting limitations (which aren't as crippling as you think when you consider that the target variance means it will often hit things)

I'm currently running a Nia Mana-Ramp Thraggro/lifegain deck and this card has won me the game every time it's been pulled.

It's not uncommon for me to get Avacyn, Angel of Hope in play, alongside a Boros Reckoner, and then draw this card when I'm sitting on 12+ lands.

The offspring of Hurricane and Earthquake. In fact, this will often be better than either, because it hits exactly what you need it to without hurting yourself in the process.

Great synergy with Blaze Commando potentially netting you 6 hasty soldier tokens Instantly. In fact the best spell to use with the Commando around, at least in standard.

Believe it or not, I drafted/opened this card in every Gatecrash limited event that I attended. And somehow, I never played it. Oh, I put it in my decks. It just never came up. Seems good, though!

Let's face it. Gruul's not Selesnya. Selesnya is the guild that's all about creatures, while Gruul is close (With Domri Rade certainly giving those ninnies a run for their money), it's unfortunately still too wild to be only represented by something as stable as creatures. Selesnya's so creatureful, their instants and sorceries are creatures.

Our guild mechanic shows this our creatures are so wild they wanna smash things now! But what does that have to do with this card? Well. This is what happens when you design a board sweeper for a creature focused deck. Red burns the soil, green shatters the heavens and Gruul punches you in the face.

im new to magic so if you payed 5 mana for X would you devide that with all three? or would all three abilities be 5 adding a grand total of 15 damage to creatures and player?
MTG_Jeremy
☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
Kingnolybear,

It would deal 5 to each target (15 total). Whatever X is, it will deal that amount of damage to 1, 2, or 3 targets depending on what you choose.

Like the incredible Hull Breach before it, I like R/G cards that allow me to get plenty of bang for my buck. Granted, outside of big multiplayer matches, you may not get to utilize all three options, but if nothing else, you'll be getting two out of three, "and that ain't bad!"
