So lovely! The only "bad thing" I can think about this card is the fact that it's a sorcery rather than an instant, and of course the fact that it's multicolored (but in the guilds of Ravnica setting, that's barely a drawback). Otherwise it's a very reliable removal spell for only two mana, that's good. It does lack the ability to hit players, but can potentially hit big creatures for only 2cmc.

This fits into a ramp strategy with ease since X sweepers like Magmaquake for ground troops and Gruul Charm for air are already taking care of the small guys.

How is there ever enough space to swing an entire MOUNTAIN??

The real beauty of this is it's in the same set as Boros Reckoner.

Sorcery speed, otherwise great at shooting that that Thundermaw Hellkite.

A card that doesn't look splashable from it's mana cost but actually is because you'll want to use it late in the game to take out a fatty.

How is this so low? Are people really that scared by having to use sorceries?
Red and Green really do need cards capable of slapping down big creatures, as opposed to stockpiling burn.

I think in standard I'd rather play this over clan defiance... leaves my mana open for bloodrush

Hey this is actually pretty decent - it's strictly as good as Spitting Earth.

I love this card. Being able to wipe out a big creature for 2 mana is very nice. Sure, he can't target players and he is sorcery speed, but he can nail annoying creatures for a relatively low cost, and he scales well in ramp decks.
Definitely better than it looks.

Can this card damage the actual player or creature cards only? Also the land total, can you include the two mana used to cast Ground Assault or are they subtracted?

Its effect (usually straight up killing a dude) is well worth splashing one of its colours for in limited. What amounts to a hard-to-cast sorcery speed doom blade doesn't seem very good for constructed though.

Such great flavor. The more the land, the bigger the windup.
Encapsulates Gruul brilliantly.

I think the rating is appropriate, only because you need 5 lands for it to be mana-efficient.
Two mana is a way, way worse Shock, three mana is a restrictive Searing Spear, and four mana is a non-Overload, non-mono-red Mizzium Mortars. You have to be in the late-game before this ever matters. Drawing it any earlier is a waste.

A Spitting Earth that doesn't care about what lands you play seems pretty decent.
Most cards like Spitting Earth usually ask you to run them with a particular kind of lands, but this one doesn't restrict you at all - which also makes casting this easier.
When cast early, it can still shock utility creatures. When cast later, it can even kill fatties.
Looks like an excellent removal spell for Commander decks.
(I also like how the card is named Ground Assault yet isn't restricted to nonflying creatures for once.)

Compare it to Terminate. Not in function but flavor. Obviously they are really different cards because black definitely hates on creatures, and red doesn't really have much trouble hating on them either.
But if you shift from to you can really see the weight of the colors. Green isn't always opposed to killing creatures but they are very strict about it, just look at Plummet or Mercy Killing, and that's also white, showing even more how green relies on other colors to help take creatures down outside of combat.
Green is a bit more comfortable with doing damage though, even if it is usually against flyers. That said, green is still really bad at direct damage *cough*Hornet Sting*cough*, which is probably what drags it down to sorcery speed.
