I actually used to like this card a lot, but sadly time hasn't been kind to it. I look at it and think 'well... it's decent in combat and on curve next to Halberdier'... then I remember, Halberdier ain't particularly good.

This card is too overcosted. Compare it to Lightning Elemental at 4 CMC. The concept is decent. It's just that there are way better cards to play at 5 CMC. (1.5/5)

It wasn't bad in its day, especially by Homelands standards, but it was just a very underpowered era in the game's history. Also, haste wasn't as common an ability then. It'd be a few years before it even got its own keyword. Oh, and yet another old creature type gone the way of Uncle Istvan.

Homelands couldn't even do red beat down creatures correctly. *sigh*

compare this to hill giant, folks. i would actually be pleased to find this in a modern set. a sleeker mana cost, say 2RR, and i would even be excited. homelands may have done bad by the rares, but the commons pass as being ok. sometimes.

Say whatever you want about the playability, I personally am immensely disappointed by the lack of a party being thrown on this card.
If you think Homelands isn't a good set, you don't truly understand the power held within it. Why else would they make Apocalypse Chime?
Because they knew that an all Homelands deck would be so strong, there needed to be a card you could carry at the ready to destroy the power of the Homelands.

Oh, and yet another old creature type gone the way of Uncle Istvan.
For the Human type, it combos with Avacyn's Collar, Bladed Bracers, Bonds of Faith, Butcher's Cleaver, Heavy Mattock, Herald of War, and Silver-Inlaid Dagger.
For the Rogue type, it combos with Cloak and Dagger, Frogtosser Banneret, Oona's Blackguard, and any card with a Prowl cost.

Homelands...the best set in MtG.
