this is a very situational card, but it can be very powerful. i have played this alongside a thorn elemental more than once - usually a guaranteed 14 damage. can't complain about that.

Scornful Egotist, Hand of Emrakul, or any other high CC cards with an alternate casting cost that allows you to get them out sooner.

Basically eclipsed by Soul's Fire. It costs two less, one less red, gives you a choice of creature (very rarely important though) and it's instant speed. However, this works with permanents other than creatures, and stuff with protection - say, Emrakul :)
