I do think this is a bit too cautious, but I only play Constructed now. Loxodon Warhammer was insane in limited and tended to break games in half, and this would probably do similar things in a Human-heavy draft deck.
This is a high pick for limited. The power boost is sick when equipped to a flier, And lifelink plus the power boost on a Human can swing the game in your favour pretty quickly.

It's because of equipment like this and the other human-focused mechanics in Innistrad that I want to make a human deck with four Blighted Agent's in it. The story would be that a terrified village, in their desperation, turned to a group of shady mercenaries from Mirrodin for protection.

This card helped me get 3rd place in the prerelease. Adding 3 power to a creature is just awesome no matter what type it is, and this with Thraben Militia is just mean.

I will not mention Greatsword. I will not mention Greatsword.
Equip costs over 3 scare me a little, but I guess it could be pretty good in a human deck. Gaining at least 4 life per turn could change the game. Did I hear someone say Invisible Stalker? Sounds like a good idea to me.
I'll see if I can make a human deck and put this, Sharpened Pitchfork and Silver-inlaid Dagger on an Unruly Mob, just for flavor.

invisible stalker is the obvious choice, I put that and a bonds of faith on mine after getting the boost from an elder cathar and...heck yes, I'll take eight if you drop eight.

Without equipped to a human, it's a Greatsword. Equipped to one, it's 2/3 of Loxodon Warhammer, and edging on LW's brokenness.
Pre-release, i went up against someone running a very similar deck to mine, the match he won was due to getting this out early. He finished it with 56 life..

excellent card for beginers starting with inistrad expecially since there are lots of humans this card is so good :P and for only 3 mana life link is a added bonus :D

Of course it gives lifelink! If a human chops off a limb with one of these, they'll cook it up real nice for you. But if a zombie does, you're not going to want to eat that.

Equipped creature goes where he pleases!
Equipped creature say his own name a lot, or else he forget!

I always think it should also say: If equipped to a Zombie, it gets an additional +1/+0

Possibly a bit slow for a fast Human deck, but the lifelink and power boost are both quite nice. A poor man's Loxodon Warhammer (without the Trample...)
I think the Flavor that WOTC was going for was: in the hands of a human, they would use the cleaver for either offense, or, as a butcher's cleaver. A Butcher butchers meats and then people eat said meatstuffs. Usually, eating something gives you energy, or vitality... thus life. If the Butcher's Cleaver were in the hands of a werewolf or zombie, or Cephalid, then they probably aren't carefully carving up things for a dinner banquet-- they are gunning to cave in your face with it, and then move onto the next cleaverable enemy.

Know what happens when too many of these are distributed? Cleaver Riot. Come to think of it, a creature equipped with this would not be bad with double strike...

Its weird how a cleaver gives lifelink in the hands of a human
Yeah, I don't play limited. I only play constructed from invasion block forward.

I definitely agree with the whole Blighted Agent or Invisible Stalker idea though.
