sometimes, I see a "build around me" uncommon in a set, and I give a little smile. Other times, I see those same uncommons, and just cry myself to sleep.
This I thought was funny because the more Rage extractors you play, the more hawt lava axe imitation and multiplication goes on. If you ever draft 4 of em....... oh man........

Not powerful alone, but in a deck with a little lifegain and a bunch of Phyrexian Metamorphs and Moltensteel Dragon, this guy will kill very efficiently. I'm thinking RU control?

I really want to make a Grixis colored Deck using this as the base. Its like how Megrim used to be for discard!

This card is brutal. If you run into a deck running this, prepare to lose a lot of life.

The Phyrexian mana is a great concept on its own. So why not build an entire deck around it?

I say meh to this card. I used to have a where ancients tread deck, and it works fine casually, but it's no power house deck, and this is the same way. It has even more restrictions, and a lack of good cards with high cmc that use phyrexian mana. Unless your deck will be all molten steel dragons and slash panthers (and then green decks will eat you alive with naturalizes), most of the other cards with phyrexian mana are only 1 - 2 mana. I saw someone note corossive gale, but the cmc of that card is 1, so that doesn't work. It turns gutshot into a shock.. but then you could just play burst lightning. I just don't see this card making any big waves in constructed.

I like this with Norn's Annex. A fun build around card I threw into a deck with a couple Bludgeon Brawl's.

In Limited, this card is pretty sweet, especially if you've got a lot of Phrexian mana symbols of the color you're playing. Otherwise, just be careful about how much life you're giving for each Phyrexian mana spell, because basing the strategy around the life loss is a huge gamble.
In Constructed, this is actually still pretty good, especially since you can throw in lifelink, lifegain, what have you (I'd say Vault Skirge would be pretty nice.) to counterbalance the lifeloss.
This most likely won't see tournament play, but I do intend to make a fun casual deck with this as the theme.

The problem with this card is that it costs 5 mana and the highest {P} cmc is only 6. (Thundering Tanadon / Moltensteel Dragon) Sure, you could play it for 4 mana and 2 life, but you could also be using that mana to cast one of those creatures instead, and once you've already paid all that life for your more aggressive {P} creatures, you're not going to want to have a turn where you just play this and do nothing else. Maybe you could run this with Semblance Anvil, so that you can drop that for 3 and then drop this and one of the larger {P} creatures simultaneously during your next turn. Maybe.
But if this had come out a turn or two earlier and done damage equal to amount of {P} paid for the spell, or if it had cost 3{P}{P} like Norn's Annex, it would've been a much better card imo.
Seems good enough to build a deck around honestly. I like it. The art is sweet too.

Decent card to build around for a casual deck, absolutely insane card to build a deck around in triple NPH draft.

Love this card. Made a deck around 4 of these along with 3 tempered steel.Vault skirges, porcelain legionnaire, spines thopter keep presure early. Drop this and notice how it says cast? Even if they counter my thundering tenadon, moltensteel, slash panther they still lose large chunks of life. The deck is red white. This deck wirks surprisingly well. It actually does poorly in casual because of tel jihad the fallen because I can't block those things.

It might not trigger itself...but another copy will tripper it.
Made me think up a cute little deck: 4x of these 4x Moltensteel Dragons 4x Porcelainne Legionnaires 4x Vault Skirges 4x Ruthless Invasions 4x Act of Agressions 4x Thundering Tanadoons 4x Norn's Annexs 4x Birthing Pod 4x Rootbound Crag 4x Dragonskull Summit 16x Mountains
It might not see competative play but it'll be fun as hell to play.

I am guessing that if this card stacks with copies of itself, a Prototype Portal should be able to multiply the damage from 5 (the first copy), to 10 (the second one), etc. If you use creatures like Thundering Tanadon or Moltensteel Dragon, I can easily see them being abused with Splinter Twin for an easy 6 damage with this in play.

Yeah at first I was skeptical about the goodness of this one. Then a friend of mine built a R/W/U deck around it. Phyrexian Metamorph and this are a perfect match. Multiple extractors on the field is a death sentance, especially with the ability to target creatures too. Porcelain Legionnaire stalls the game, and War Report keeps him alive. God help you if it gets to midgame.

Please observer these red enchantments that also do damage using a mechanic from their set:
Casting several of these in succession of each other is a downright cruel thing to do.

With phyrexian metamorph getting more than one extractor into play can tear your opponent apart if you've got the right cards to follow through with. Alongside the new curse of bloodletting shit gets even more menacing!

One day I was looking through my collection and I saw this.
I smiled. And when I'm smiling, that could either be a very, very good thing, or a very, very bad thing. Sometimes different things to different people.
I want to build a deck around this thing.
No, wait. I want to build an EDH deck around this thing. Using it as my commander. I can do that, right? ...I can't? Aw dangit. (New suggestion! EDH variant where your commander can be any permanent card, and doesn't have to be legendary. Also, no color restrictions; you can still build a 5-color deck with this as your "commander". Call it "JCPH" for "Johnny Combo Player Highlander".)
Next plan! Build casual multiplayer deck from it.
The idea is simple. Throw a bunch of basic lands and cards with phyrexian mana costs, add in some life gain, then add 4 of this card. Just pay 2 for all that phyrexian mana when the mana itself isn't available. Then burn everything that moves.

So I almost scrapped these from my R/W deck. It's an artifact heavy deck that has monstrous life gain. The rage extractors didn't really help. Until the first couple of rounds I played with it. All my phyrexian mana cost cards started wiping out forces for the Thundering Tanadon I had added. And even more higher cost Phyrexian Creatures like Phyrexian Metamorph and Moltensteel Dragon made for a dangerous constant casting. I was the winner of a 7 man game in about 22 turns (build up and then attacking).
I was lucky when I bought 8 boosters for this set, and 5 of them had Rage Extractors in them.
Also Scrapyard Salvo was good for when they finally killed most of my artifacts and artifact creatures.

Wow, TheWrathofShane posted I comment I can agree with!
Rage Extractor Phyrexian Metamorph (to copy/set off the Rage Extractors/other Metamorphs) Tezzeret's Gambit Gitaxian Probe (both will trigger Rage Extractor, then cut down the deck size to find more of them) Vault Skirge (to regain the life you're paying. He's one of the few lifelink cards where I deem lifelink a "necessary" ability.) The depletion lands from Mercadian Masques. (or insert land here that uses counters, so they can be fully utilized with Tezzeret's Gambit) Noxious Revival (to save anything the opponent broke, to save a depleted land or if you want to reuse Tezzeret's Gambit)
And then fill in the holes with a little more lifegain (I prefer Pristine Talisman and Solemn Offering) and big Phyrexian Spells (I prefer Norn's Annex due to its defensive, life-whittling nature and the fact that it can be a Lava Axe for 3, though I should consider Pith Driller).
