This card never made much sense to me because mana rocks that cost three are never played because they're simply too slow. Yet turn the mana colorless and tack on a single life and suddenly people clamor to throw them in their decks. I'll keep my Fellwar Stones, thank you very much.

That life creeps up fast as you ramp. All of a sudden you have this big buffer. Wonderful card.

The synergy with Oloro is pretty excellent, not to mention the usefulness of the card without him.

The synergy with Oloro is obvious, but it also has great synergy with Well of Lost Dreams.

I've had a couple of these in my lifegain deck for a while; while Everflowing Chalice provides better ramp efficiency, that extra lifegain works very well alongside Well of Lost Dreams (as has been mentioned here, along with Oloro which is pretty much an identical effect).

However, another effect that it works well with and hasn't been mentioned, is Archangel of Thune. Admittedly, Well of Lost Dreams and Archangel of Thune aren't commanders so aren't quite as reliable in an EDH setting, but if you get it out you'll be happy to be getting 2 +1/+1 counters a turn (assuming you're also attacking).

And if you're playing Oloro - and thus blue - you may have some clone effects. And multiple Archangels out with these are bonkers.

I love this card, it doesn't look very impressive, but it does really add up. The mana ability is obviously below the curve, but one life every turn is a great free bonus. (in an artifact deck where you can untap it, it can actually get impressive I imagine) just like a lighting bolt for 1Red wouldn't get anyone excited but Lightning Helix is wonderful, I think pristine talisman feels at home in any control deck. We aren't quite at Helix's power level here, but lifegain is a great tack-on effect and its value can really sneak up on you. I have won some games I had no business winning because of the life-gain on cards like Pristine Talisman, Judge of Currents, Feast of Blood or Faith's Fetters.

This is one of those really back-to-basics card that makes you wonder why it wasn't printed earlier, like in Ice Age or something.
