It should have haste, or cost less. As it stands, you pay 6 mana and wait two turns to swing for 5 in the air, 10 if you cast this again on the same turn the tokens are produced.
It can have a lot of potential in limited as a colorless bomb, but overall, it's just mediocre.

Might not be a constructed all star but it's better than it looks at first blush. Block an infecter and have it return to your hand without any counters on it then chump block or go aggro (maybe w/ tempered steel) with 5 1/1 fliers. Also potentially ridiculous with the right sac engine.
This card was pretty fun in the prerelease. I underestimated it at first glance but once I used it, I gained a bit of respect for it.

@KarmasPayment: It's not suppose to be an attacker primarily, it's suppose to help with defense, make chumpers and help with metalcraft while you build your forces. Chump with all the small guys first, and at the beginning of your upkeep, you get 5 more. It's a pretty simple equation. Then if you have battle cry going (or, god help your opponent, Tempered Steel), you have the GG when they DO attack.

"Sup Dawg, I heard you like thopters so I put some thopters on your thopter!"
Just destroys infect decks (in limited). If you can get this our on turn 4 with a Palladium Myr or even a Grand Architect then you can block any Cystbearer and not care about the -1/-1 counters. Then you can just trade the tokens away and all the benefit of infect being like wither is negated.
The bad thing is that it can't attack until 2 turns later. Other than that it's pretty cool.

Pulled two of these at the prerelease and didn't drop a game. I played poorly and sloppily as I was very distracted and tired, but this thing plays itself. Thopter-copter away!
At a recent sealed deck, I played one of these. I didn't crack many flyers and basically had to take what I could get - I didn't have high hopes for this card. Game 1/Match 1, I went up against a SOLID infect deck and lost miserably. 2nd game/Match 1, I pulled this out 4th thanks to some Myr and I have to say, this card single-handidly wont me the game! I could chump block and even allow Papa Thopter to take some infect hits knowing he would just bounce back. 3rd game/Match 1, I was again losing miserably. I had 8 poiston counters when this dropped on the board. It completely shut him down AGAIN!! I left that night without placing, but with much more respect for this card! 4.5/5

wait, what if you had multiples of thopter assembly? The effect says no other thopters, other than thopter assembly. Would that mean you could bounce both assemblies?

Works so well with so many cards. Along with saccing the thopters, battle cry, Tinker/Shape Anew and reusable fodder/attackers, Sharding Sphinx can make this get out of control quickly. Add in Tempered Steel and those three cards become 5 Chronozoa - that doubles at 3 times the rate. Per Sharding Sphinx. You don't need to be a master mathematician (I'm certainly not!) to figure out how nuts that is.

My second favorite target for Treasure Mage in my mono-{U} infect/proliferate deck(right after Contagion Engine). Shuts down opponent's attack step like nobody's business.

Piston Sledge for infinite thopter tokens. If you have some mass-haste effect on the board, it can be pretty brutal.

@chinkeeyong: Correct me if I am wrong, but the rule for 'Summoning Sickness' ends when the monster see's an Upkeep step. Meaning, monsters played during the upkeep do not have summoning sickness because they were on the field during that upkeep step?
@ Guest2018383897: No, because there would be 2 of them on the field. It says it is the ONLY one on the field, so no, it would not work with 2 of them on the field.
Also, SO using this in my myr control deck even though this isn't a Myr because I use Time Sieve xD MUCH more efficient then the Mana Flair, Howling Mines, Beaken deck my friend runs.
This card saved me again and again when I had Shimmer Myr out. Dropping it after they declare attackers, use up the little ones to take some of their creatures out, then getting TA bounced back to my hand to do it again.
But now I really, really want to use this with Time Sieve.

So I drafted this along with two Signal Pests. Ended up playing a 12 year old girl who played a second turn Suture Priest. I played the Assembly anyways. Turn after it returns to my hand, I get the tokens, then she plays War Report.
Ironically, that was the only game of the match that I won. God I'm bad at drafting...

How the helI can you tards underestimate this monster. Its a 5/5 artifact flyer for 6 for one. It creates 5 1/1 flyers and then u can resummon it for total of 5 1/1s and a 5/5 flyer. all for 6 colorless. God the magic community is retarded

@TrueBloodWolf: It says if you control no thopters other than Thopter Assembly. If you have more than one Thopter Assembly out and no other thopters, you control no other thopters except for Thopter Assembly, thus its effect still works with that wording. It would not work if it said "other than itself"
@Roshendo Incorrect. When a card refers to itself by name it means "this card" not others with the same name. Otherwise it would say "other than a CARD NAMED Thopter assembly" Refer to CR 201.4.
With more than one Thopter Assembly on the battlefield none will be returned.

Thops thops thops thops thops thops thops! Such a fun card!
Look at your Thopter Assembly, now at the Theros spoilers, now back at your Thopter Assembly, now back to the Theros spoilers.
Sadly, Mirrodin Besieged isn't in standard, but if you stop giving a crap about the Type 2 Format and switched to playing Elder Dragon Highlander, you could combo this card with Purphoros, God of the Forge.
Look at your deck, over at your opponent, where are you? You're on the battlefield facing an opponent with Purphoros and this Thopter Assembly. What's in your hand, you have no hand and you've just passed the turn. I have a Thopter Assembly and Purphoros out with no other Thopters in play. Look again, you just took twenty damage because I've also enchanted you with Curse of Bloodletting during my last turn.
Hilarity is possible when you have this card out with Purphoros, God of the Forge.
I'm on Jon Finkel.

A beautiful token generator. There are much better things, but I want to feed a Megatog to bursting. Have your five thopter tokens, then summon the thopter again next turn and attack with the 'tog and his little thopter token buddies. Your opponent will probably forget that when you sac the five tokens on the field, another five pop out, ready for snack time. An underblocked 33/34 with trample will do some damage. Only good for casual, of course, but casual almost always results in more interesting (and therefore better) games anyhow. Thopter Assembly is a casual gem, and dirt cheap ($) to boot. 5/5
Edit: You can only snack on the tokens once... :( RTFC?
