With all the phyrexian mana running around I can see this being of some use in limited.

Building a mean little casual deck built around this, similar creatures (Soul Warden, Soul's Attendant, and Blood Seeker), while using Varchild's War-Riders which has 'cumulative (damn censors) upkeep: put a 1/1 red survivor token into play under an opponent's control', as a means of forcing opponents to have creatures.

Considering throwing in a Soul Foundry to make copies of the Suture Priests though.

"You're a white deck -- how are you making me lose life when I play creatures?"

"Clerical error."

One of my favorite decks makes use of flickerwisp and glimmerpoint stag to reuse enter the battlefield effects. Unfortunately, there are not that many exciting white 2 drops with enter the battlefield effects. Sure you could destroy an enchantment, but I already have artifact and enchantment destruction covered.
This fills the gap perfectly, I can play it on turn two and curve right into a flickerwisp to hit them for one extra. This set also has Inquisitor Exarch at 2 mana, which fills similar needs.

Wow. This guy is really good. In aggro, he can easily Lava Axe your opponent before they can deal with it, and in control he'll gain you a crap-ton of life. To increase the chances that you draw him early (when he's best), you're going to need to pick one fairly early and hope to get a second copy late; since he's still pretty undervalued, that shouldn't be too hard. Try to get the first copy between 4th and 6th pick.

An amazing card, and hilarious when used with Genesis Chamber. You play creatures, the chamber gives you that many myr tokens and so you double up on life gained from the Priest. Your opponent plays a creature? Well, he gets a free myr too, and the priest punishes him for his insolence. It's a death of a thousand cuts, and you'll both have too many chump blockers from the Chamber for the other player to swing things with combat.

...this is, of course, assuming that they are playing creatures to begin with.

Love this card, and it just ruins the Splinter Twin/Deceiver Exarch combo that seems to be running around everywhere. My only complaint is that it's not black.

if you have 2 Suture Priest on tha battlefield, you gain 2 life when another creature comes into the battlefield or you still gain 1 life?

Both abilities trigger and are resolved one after another. So of course you get 2 life. Add 4 copies of Soul Warden and a Mycoloth etc. to maximize the effect.

Beast in limited. Grabbed 2 of them and a couple of Vault Skirges in a sealed and rocked the house. A big threat in any orzhov deck and noone wants to waste removal on her. Amazing at common too.

Question about this card. My friend recent built a splicer deck, i'm new to the game so i question everything because without questioning i wouldn't know what was going on. Anyway on with my question; When suture priest is in play and he plays a splicer card that gives him a token does he gain 1 or 2 life?

Thanks in advance for reading/answering this question.

EDIT: @calseeium: He gains two life. BTW, whoever rated you low for asking an honest question is a douche.
________

I didn't think I'd dig "evil white" flavor-wise, but this thing rocks.

Best moment during this last block draft...I dropped a second one of these gals after the first had been pinging my opponent's life total a little bit. Unfortunately, I was at eight poison counters. But then, next turn, a gift! He drops Phyrexian Swarmlord, loses two immediately, and then SIXTEEN more when I pass turn and he gets his tokens during his upkeep. Man, NOTHING is better than over-eager HS-age players who self-pwn.

Played a casual game of Two-Headed Giant a few weeks ago. Me and my teammate on the ropes, one of my opponents decides to get fancy and play his Army of the Damned.
He neglected to notice the two Suture Priests quietly sitting on my side of the battlefield.

@CarlosLiberated Aetherplasm doesn't work like that. It only returns if you declare it as a blocker...the incoming creature never gets declared as a blocker, so if it's an Aetherplasm it's ability won't trigger.

decent combo of 2 too good cards, as stated, though i'd play them all in conjunction if i was doin it. tho it is more like souls attendant and blood seeker had a baby, cuz its "you may".

Played a game of 2 Headed Giant with some friends I got 2 of these and a Shattered Angel out and and we gained early control of the field because the others were reluctant to play anything. One of them is still not happy with that game.

Use this with galepowder mage and you get extra 1 direct damage or life healing if you want.

This card can stop so many aggro decks if they don't get rid of it once in play.

4.5/5 for such low mana cost and excellent abilities

I won a game once cause of this, against my brother's casual black Zombie tribal deck. He had two Endless Ranks of the Dead and about forty zombies out (it had been a crazy game), and next turn he would have swung for the win. I drew this, grinned, dropped it and he just left the room without saying a word.

I just feel like sharing this story.

Some time ago I participated in a New Phyrexia draft. I'm pretty sure that my first pack had a holographic Praetor's Grasp. I first picked it and was prepared to go black. But, at some point during the first pack, I drafted one of these. And then another one. The other guys kept passing them to me. I drafted around four by the end of the first pack. And by the end of the third, I had something like, six Suture priests, six forced worships, I think three master splicers, two inquisitor exarchs, and some amount of war reports. These were the makings of the deck that I used to, for the first time, win first place in a magic the gathering tournament. For this reason Suture Priest will always have some sort of special place in my heart.

IIRC, that's Yawgmoths mask, or something like that. It's the 'other' symbol of phyrexia, and is depicted in very few cards. There's one on Mishra's Bauble, but I can't remember the names of the other cards it's on...

best moment ever.
My opponent and I both had 2 suture priests and he was at two life. He plays a creature and I explain that since he was the active player, his priest's abilities trigger first and mine after. When the stack resolves, my triggers resolve first and he loses 2 life. Since he was at zero life, his priest's ability never resolved because he died. The joys of playing magic.

Great potential in combination with Mercy Killing. Gives you two pretty good options:
1) You can kill your opponent's biggest or most threatening creature and replace it with a bunch of tiny elves. This will allow you to have your opponent lose life equal to that creature's power.
2) You can kill a big creature of your own. In this case the plan is to gain life equal to its power, and divide it into a swarm of small creatures which you can use for either chump blocking or overwhelming your opponent with sheer numbers.

either way, you get a pretty good deal when you use these two together.
