Turns one and two: play lands and cheap artifacts.

Turn three: play Thousand-Year Elixir.

Turn four: Play Master Transmuter.

Turn five: use transmuter and elixir abilities to get Platinum Angel and the forge into play.

Turn six: laugh uncontrollably.

I'd say use it in an artifactg only deack, using mostly artifact lands, 4 of each I know of 5 which would give you 20 land, ad in 1 of each of the mana producing myr that's 25 mana sources which is enough for me, add in nevinyrral's disk and darksteel forge and any sort of artifacts you want, non perminents as you please and you have a decent deck. The darksteel forge will protect your perminents (land included from some one playing land destruction) you can use your disks willy nilly because it's effect will no longer destroy it and you will still have an army. By the way I hate the platinum angel idea it gets boring and is no fun for anyone it's just a stalemate(I would by the way exhile after dealing as much damage as I could)

Nasty when coupled with Nevinyrral's Disk in an artifact deck. Wipe your opponents field every turn with no detriment to your own side.

My stepdad has this colorless artifact deck that mainly uses the Urzatron for his mana. At first, he had pre-8th Edition cards only, and thus not any access to the Mirrodin artifact support. But now...

His deck was changed forever. It went from a basic artifact toolbox to a combo deck with the Forge and Blinkmoth Urn at the center of it all. Pariah's Shield was taken out because it made everything much too easy, and Platinum Angel was never even considered because it was even cheesier (He's putting the Shield back in though, as it's very helpful).

The Forge has shaped Mirrodin....and that Artifact deck.

A bit of a "win more" card if you hard cast it, but oh, what fun you'll have. This can only be played seriously with the Transmuter or Tinker or something.

Certainly, when you have nine mana free, pretty much anything you cast should be able to win you the game. But in many casual environments - where 'if' and 'when' you win are less important than 'how', and how many lulz are generated along the way - this is the nuts. An excellent example of a Johnny/Timmy card: it has an absolutely gigantic effect yet doesn't actually do anything useful without other cards to go alongside it. Spike generally couldn't care less, but that just meant he could trade it away for the Arc-Slogger Timmy didn't want, and everybody wins.

I could only afford one on my current budget. But my artifact deck has four copies of Fabricate. And several Master Transmuters. I get this into play in about half the games I'm in, and after I do, that's basically the game. I've never had my opponents recover from this.

just going to answer the question in its flavor-text:

A force capable of creating planes is the only power capable of shaping darksteel, and only Darksteel is capable of containing a force able to create planes.

quite a fun card, very interesting interactions

Sorry forget to mention the icings on the cake. Akroma's Vengeance/ Nevinyrral's Disk/ Planar Cleansing or Wrath of God (though the latter destroys just creatures)! After you use Mycosynth Lattice + Darksteel Forge, if you successfully play all their base are belongs to you! lol

And then they other guy spends his 6 white mana to Return to Dust your forge and Plantinum Angel, Disenchant your Thousand-Year Elixir, and then run over your Master Transmuter with a gaggle of 1/1 Soldiers; right?

@PhyrexianLobbiest:

Turn 6: Hold action, then respond to Turn to Dust by using Master Transmuter to bounce and replay the forge and the angel (using the elixir to untap the transmuter) so they aren't the same targets that the spell had selected. Laugh uncontrollably.

The sequence can be done earlier than that with a few more cards.
Turn 1: Island. Optionally play whatever if you have it.
Turn 2: Island, Vedalken Engineer
Turn 3: Any land, Etherium Sculptor, tap the Engineer to play Thousand-Year Elixir.
Turn 4: Any land, Master Transmuter, bounce the sculptor for Darksteel Forge, untap the transmuter with the elixir, bounce the elixir for Platinum Angel.

Takes every card in hand and nearly every draw to pull off so it'll probably never happen, but there you go.

I love this card. I use this in an all artifact deck(yes, even artifact lands) with Master Transmuter to get this and Worldslayer in play. Almost always a win.

Sadly, it was born at a time when decks could kill in three turns.

This plus Draco is absolute beastly.

Also, this plus Energy Chamber plus Spinal Parasite is a great anti-modulor/graft/sunburst deck.

I've got to get one of these for my Memnarch

Turn 3, Land, Pallidium Myr, Mana Myr
Turn 4, Land, Darksteel Forge. Laugh as everyone stares at you getting 9 mana by turn 4.

There's also always Kuldotha Forgemaster

The only things that can potentially shut this card down is exile and being forced to sacrifice an artifact. There are ways of turning this card into a creature (Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas , March of the Machines ,etc) and then using something cheesy to get rid of it, such as Condemn , Path to Exile , Journey to Nowhere ,etc. Parasitic Implant may also work.

Thus, be sure to have many Cancels (or variations of it) on hand. Or simply use Venser, the Sojourner/Karn Liberated .

Hardcasting it pretty much means you're allowed to laugh manically. This card is exactly what I love about Magic: It's FUN! Take your broken combos and shove 'em, I'm gonna make all of my toys indestructible and have a blast.

A lot of mana for a pretty boring effect. May as well run Avacyn, Angel of Hope.

☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
Actually I made a deck using this and avacyn, angel of hope combined with many artifact creatures and most importantly worldslayer. This allow you to every turn decimate the opponent by wiping out their mana base and all their creatures, but not yours thanks to Avacyn who protects all permanents. Other cards like planar cleansing and day of judgement are cars I use in it.
