More cards should have both madness and hellbent.

This is a perfect example of a Melvin card. It interracts with itself so well.

This card works amazingly well in suicide black decks. It's primary ability is pretty standard for black, but as soon as you get hellbent, you skip that pesky upkeep where you have to feed all your nasties like Lord of the Pit, Greater Harvester or Devouering Strosus.

this with pacts. omg haha srsly just lay down a hand of pacts so you go hellbent (which activates a bunch of other stuff), and you dont lose next turn

This was the centerpiece to a blue black deck I built using Greater Harvester, Braids, and the like. Also, one of the few instances where Paradox Haze is better suited attached to your opponent. :D

@TiggurX: I agree. Even though I wasn't playing back then, I know I would have loved it, and I've always thought they should keep bringing back old mechanics and combining them with new ones instead of discarding them as soon as a block is done. However, I don't think they'll do it again, mainly because of this:

"Despite drawing back some old players, the set was not as well received by the larger number of newer players. In Mark Rosewater's "State of Design 2007" article he goes on to explain reasons why the set was not as successful as they had hoped. The most important reason was that the nostalgic theme left newer players feeling "out of the loop"."

You know what? SCREW THEM. If idiots can't appreciate the amazing history of Magic, they can go play YuGiOh.

Awesome flavour and concept!

Man, Time Spiral block had so many awesome cards! I definitely think they should do something like it again, some time in the not-too-distant future.

@achilleselbow: Well said man, well said!

Is "gibbering" what Porky Pig does? That's what comes to my mind when I hear it...

Well, this card is certainly Gibbering Decent.

Combos well with One with Nothing and harmful "beginning of each player's upkeep" abilities. I'm thinking it should be run alongside Necrogen Mists, Noetic Scales, Braids, Cabal Minion, and maybe Bottomless Pit.... or do you think that isn't quite mean enough already?

T1: Swamp, Quest for the Nihil Stone
T2: Swamp, Anvil of Bogardan
T3: Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, Maralen of the Mornsong
T4: Cabal Coffers, One with Nothing (or Anvil of Bogardan next turn) into Gibbering Descent

@Kryptnyt
Porky Pig stutters, gibbering is meaningless speech sounds, like speaking in tongues.

@Omenchild
You'll lose on your next upkeep, whenever that may be. So if anyone destroys the Gibbering Descent or manages to get a card into your hand, all the Pacts will trigger.

@Ragamander
Anything that "combos" with One with Nothing combos better with Putrid Imp

As long as you can dump your hand during your opponent's turn, say, with Zombie Infestation, you can choose not to pay for Phyrexian Etchings after it has enough age counters. Then you just start converting your deck into Zombie tokens.

This is the only card which has the "you have no upkeep" ability, there should be more

Eon Hub is not the same

lmao

@Buderus
Ya this effect could be really cool if it were on a cheaper enchantment that did nothing else (ie 2U, skip your upkeep). You could skip echo costs, use things like pact of negation, and use cards with absolutely brutal upkeep triggers like havoc festival and only your opponents would suffer.

T3 Liliana of the Veil curves nicely into
T4 land, +1, Gibbering descent

It's somewhat redundant, but redundancy just ensures they'll never have a hand again and that Lily gets to eat a creature every couple of turns while you sap life.
