This ability triggers during the upkeep step, so if your opponent has no hand and can manage to play what they draw each turn, that's only 1 damage each turn. Speaking from experience, there is nothing more frustrating than a handless opponent when you're trying to run them down with a megrim.

@littlebeast. . .Dude! I swear to god I have always thought the same thing! haha that's funny because It looks like parts from Empire Strikes Back when Luke falls off the ledge when Vader chops his hand off, and he's hanging on a weather vane. Star Wars is awesome!

Flavour text is fantastic.

This is almost the same as Necrogen Mists except for two very big differences. 1) This is double black while the Mist is a single black. 2) This is random whereas Mists is not. I guess you could still build a decent madness/threshold/recur deck out of this compared to Mists, but the whole random thing to you is probably not ideal.

If you fall into a bottomless pit, you die of thirst.

I see the Star Warsishness, sure....
but I prefer to think of it as the Mines of Moria :)

@Kazenpaus Assuming for a second that a bottomless pit can exist, and gravity will always be below you, wouldn't you just continuously accelerate until your body ripped apart from the air resistance? I think that that would happen before you die in a couple of days from lack of water.

The only problem is that if you’re just looking for the usual discard effect, there’s plenty to choose from that would only cause your opponent to discard. However, if you need to discard as well then it’s a neat extra perk to toy with opponent’s hand in the process. 3 casting cost keeps it realistic to work on some ideas that can capitalize off the play. Comments are awesome, I truly lol, and it certainly does remind me of that Starwars scene.

Not to turn this into a science lesson, but no, it wouldn't.
Look up terminal velocity. You will hit a maximum falling speed with the air resistance.

@Kazenpaus: There's also a chance that you would suffocate or that your lungs would otherwise collapse due to the strong air currents that would circulate around you as you try to breathe. Not that that seems any more pleasant than death by thirst.

Actually, if you'd fall in Bottomless pit, you wouldnt die of thirst, since few hours of flying at maximum speed that air resistance allows you would be moving so fast, it would dry out the skin and continue to dry out your body untill there is nothing left of you... and while im typing this, I realized this is exactly what 'death of thirst' actually is :D Im smart as hell xD

If the pit was "bottomless" you would end up on the other side of the world in exactly 40 minutes and slow to a complete stop before falling again. Assuming of course that the planet is earth...

Underrated card! Inexpensive and brutal symmetrical effect that can be built around with quite a few archetypes. Forcing everyone to take a hippy hit every turn for 3 mana over and over is NOT to be underestimated--this thing wrecks gameplans like any random discard.
