Super special secret bonus: wipes the board of tokens. Take that, 0cc!

Awesome reusable weenie sweeper. Also awesome against elves. Turn one: kill all tokens, turn 4: kill imperious perfect and the likes. Repeat if necessary.

In the middle of turn three, sacrifice a Shambling Shell and place the counter on Necroplasm. You now have a creature with unlimited growth potential and a sweating opponent.

This card is amazing next to Shambling Shell for killing a specific CC.

Play it on the same turn as a Hunted Horror to immediately get rid of the centaurs. You now have a 7/7 trample and another growing threat for a total of 5 mana. In the next couple of turns, use Shambling Shell or Golgari Guildmage to fine-tune the effect as needed to save your Horror, save your Necroplasm, or kill a specific opposing creature. Even without this last step, you get at least two turns to attack with the Horror.
Of course it works with all the Hunted creatures, but Hunted Horror is in color and the cheapest, making it easy to cast both on the same turn.

achilleselbow, does 'protection from black' mean nothing to you?

keiyakins, this ability doesn't target, kind of like Wrath of God or Reiver Demon. It still works on stuff with protection towards it.

Gilder Bairn to avoid it killing itself.

Just got a whole lot better with the release of the new Mirrodin block and proliferate.

"achilleselbow, does 'protection from black' mean nothing to you?"

Protection from Black doesn't protect from global sweeping. Achilleselbow's combo works.

Protection means:

Can't be blocked by creatures of that color/type
Can't be targeted by spells or abilities of that color/type
Prevent all damage from all sources of that color/type
Can't be enchanted or equipped by cards of that color/type

Necroplasm does neither of those things so it can totally blow up stuff with protection from black.

A Black Knight did, does and always will die to Wrath of God. At the same time, a Silver Knight will survive a red sweeper like Earthquake because that's damage and not destroy.

Ghave, Ghuru of Spores makes out shamelessly with this card.

@raptorman: Agreed. Everyone seems to be talking about this card as if it doesn't kill itself turn 3.

if anything surives a "wave of destruction" he makes just repeat the wipe whith Hex Parasite or skip a wave if there is nothing of that cost whith Surge Node

When he's at 3 counters, find a way to proliferate him before your end step. Hello beater.

He may kill himself after the third counter but if you can find a way to add more than one counter the turn he reaches 3 and before his ability triggers he will survive his own ability.

Hunger of the Howlpack leaps to mind as a more recent solution but there are others out there I'm sure.

I love how long it took me to realize it also has Dredge. I thought that was the spot for the flavor text...

Tokens, Werewolves (and other transform cards), Morph creatures, etc..

Consider proliferate, graft, Spike creatures, and other counter manipulation techniques (think artifacts) to control him into a very reusable sweep. Also consider the new Slitherhead

That said I normally just let him die and then kill all tokens when they get out of hand again...

In pure dredge, he works well with Shambling Shell.

Guru Ghave teaches this guy to blow up stuff of any CC.

Really fun with Scavenging cards. Throw Slitherheads on it to stop it from killing itself, and potentially doing some targeted board removal.

I thought I searched for all cards that added counters when I made my Ghave EDH deck... How did I miss this????!!!! That's an unbelievable oversight. Necroplasm seems amazing.
It was made with an odd CMC because it was in-set with Doubling Season.
I think this is probably TOO strong with Ghave. I don't want to maximize the power of my Commander decks, having decks too powerful for the metagame is almost as bad as having them too weak. I'd like this in a selfmill graveyard-matters deck, with Nighthowler, Splinterfright, Ghoultree... Maybe I'll make it a compound names deck. :^)

You can use him in a Mimeoplasm build to snipe certain CMC's at your end step ;)
Also, it's true what they say, he kills tokens dead!

give it darksteel plate and watch it grow!

... actually thats not so interesting...

...kinda misses the points after 10 turns...

The irony of following up with your opponent's aether vial provided you have a way to give it an additional +1/+1 counter before he @ssplodes himself
