This makes the Festering Newt/Bogbrew Witch cycle worth it. The second ability is absolutely devastating combined with the Newt's own "dies" ability.

Even besides the second ability, it's an efficient sacrifice outlet that also manages to trigger Angelic Accord for a never-ending stream of Angels and life.

Act of Treason, and this in the same set. Looks like a good trick for limited :)
Q: What else do you put in your deck with this, the newt and the witch?
A: Zuberas!

Best of the trio. I can see this being a big pick in limited, saccing your chump blockers to it.

Also, have to say the obvious and mention the idea of this in Two-Headed Giant. 16 point life swing, and we probably just killed a creature? Hell yeah.

On the one hand, I DEARLY wish these cards were even more broadly useful. At least Cauldron is ok with cards outside of the cycle....not great though. But I wish that they'd had the forethought to make this whole combo work with any Lizards, Bats, Frogs, or Rats....you know, all the sucky weaksauce creature types that we'd LOVE to throw into a Cauldron! :D
But my final word is that the Flavor isn't a Home Run-- it's a GRAND SLAM, and all other arguments are invalid because SHAKESPEARE AND HARRY POTTER AND MAGIC AND YAY!!!!!!!!!!!! @__@

The "sacrifice any creature" is acceptable. Without the newts though, this ain't really worth playing, unless you got a lot of additional combos with it.
With the newts though it's nice, especially in multiplayer games. Maybe slap the newts on a soul foundry? Not good enough for a serious deck, but for casual multiplayer ones...

Am I the only one who saw this and thought...Sanguine Bond?
During M10 I played around with an Eventide themed sanguine bond deck, Nip Gwyllions, Vampiric Link, Divinity of Pride and the like made it very Bog-Witch themed...this and the festering Newt make it so much more fun. I miss magic being fun.
That's exactly what i used it for at a 'Magic Celebration Day' at my local card store today. Everyone got one of those 30 card starter decks and a free booster pack for a limited deck build. I had this in my booster and was playing blue - and this card frustrated so many of my opponents.
It even made my Coral Merfolk useful! Hoorah!
I rated this a 4, as because it helped me deny my white enemies lifelink from chump blocks - exceptionally useful.
For the record, it appeared white was the strongest deck, as out of 30 people in the group stages, the 6 that made it into the final 6, 4 had white, 1 had black and I had blue.
I won.

I drafted both this and Sanguine Bond. It worked surprisingly well, particularly since I had Healer of the Pride on the board. Cast Festering Newt gain two life, opponent loses two life, toss newt to the cauldron, opponent loses four life, gain four life, opponent loses four life. I've cooked worse recipes.

And what about saccing any tiny creature to get a 4/4 flying angel with Angelic Accord of the same set ?

I love this card. It has so much combos with the rest of M14! This is what happened with my deck... Me: I tap Bubbling Cauldron and a land to activate it's first ability, sacrificing my Sin Collector. I gain four life. Then, since I have 4 Xathrid Necromancer's, I get 4 2/2 Zombies. THEN, since I have 4 Angelic Accord's and I have gained 4 life this turn, I get 4 4/4. Pass the turn. :D Opponent: Ok... I play a Plains and a Boros Mastiff. Pass the turn. Me: (Repeats) Opponent: CONCEDE.
That was a fun game of constructed.

I wish this had been "sacrifice a salamander, lizard or bat" instead of name-dropping the Festering Newt specifically. That would have made deck brewing (ha!) with the cauldron much more fun outside of M14.

Notably this deck doesn't mind the card Jar of Eyeballs. :)

And who said finding the right ingredients was hard?
