Damn, that's cool. Nice throwback to Rukh Egg.

Roc Egg is better, though this has nice flavor too.

I'd also like to see the token for this little guy.

Neat little card, mostly for dragon tribal decks, but possibly for competitive decks at some point. It's basically a hastey 2/2 dragon with firebreathing that comes out when all of your mana is untapped.

Dragon Tribal may actually become affordable! (mana-wise)

Dragon egg right next to Dragon hatchling in the spoiler. I'd call that a win

I find it curious that the newly hatched dragon token is stronger than a Dragon Hatchling.

@Zetan: ...Did you design Homelands? XD

Awesome in a flying build where you'll want some ground defenders to keep you alive. Chump something big and then start swinging in the air. Make two Furnace Whelps with Stronic Resonator.

Why does Slumbering Dragon only get to spend a few months with you!?
Bah! Blasted thing probably won't even wake up in time to see you hatch.

This gets my approval. I like eggs, and it's a great way to get both dragons and defense in the early game.

I don't know why they got rid the creature type - i do prefer having the race type instead, but they could have made all the egg cards dual-typed. In this case for example, it would be Dragon Egg.

Once we have a good couple of eggs, they could throw in egg-themed cards then.
Go egg tribal! Breeders will look forward to this day.

During the prerelease, I combined this with Gnawing Zombie quite nicely. Along with Dark Prophecy, I was able to turn sacrifices into card advantage and keep my side of the board more powerful than my opponent's while whittling them down a little at a time.

Cheap dragon that shouldn't be too difficult to utilize the full potential of. I am a fan.

Dragon Hatchling is apparently the runt of the brood?

I wish they'd reprinted Slumbering Dragon. It would make another cheap dragon to synergise with Scourge of Valkas, while also working with this to make COME AT ME, BRO.dec

Interesting observation. Maybe it's a different species of dragon.

Anyways, this card is better than I thought it would be. I wasn't a fan of Roc egg, but this thing has a lower toughness (easier to pop), AND it gets firebreathing. That means it's yet another card that plays exceptionally well with Fireshrieker in this set.

Great card for 2Red. On turn three, you'll get a wall that threatens to turn into a buffing hitter. Great for early-game defense and smashing for late-game offense. Nice red shift from the white Roc Egg, and the -1/-1 won't be missed in return for fire breathing. In casual, it'll be competing against the more (usually) preferred Dragonspeaker Shaman, but tribal purest decks will finally have that 3 drop they were looking for after the recent addition to Dragon Hatchling.

Jack Wang has always liked slightly angled-looking viewpoints, and he stuck with it in this card. The distant and upward-looking point of view gives an eerie atmosphere. And the background flame illuminating the egg coupled with a darkened surrounding area adds to that effect greatly. Add in some very detailed gold coins, swords, shields, and skulls, and you've got a wonderful imagery of something fierce on the verge of awakening.

I liked rukh egg more. At least that one you could slap a ton of equipment on and have that egg beat your opponent to death.

knight 1 "we should smash it"
knight 2 "OK!!!"
SMASH!!!!!!!!

both "Awwww! how cute a baby shivan dragon. lets see if it likes pepper. "
baby dragon snuggles up to their legs and the knights sprinkle pepper on its nose.

cute baby dragon sneezes with a scorch the fields

both knights "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

they were never seen or herd from again! because of an accidental annihilating fire

In the Arcana for July 23rd 2013 (http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/arcana/1282), Trick comments that the art de***ion called for an egg at least eight feet long.

Does that strike anybody else as strange? This art doesn't make that egg look eight feet tall... look at the coins and the skull at the base of the egg!

Oddly, the Egg is a Dragon itself.

It really adds an endless loop to the "Chicken/Egg" argument.

"Which came first, the Dragon, or the Dra- F**K!"

This is such a Jund card. Belongs in a deck with Sarkhan the Mad, Scourge of Valkas, Dragon Broodmother, etc. I guess one of the reasons they wouldn't print a sacrifice dragon in Jund(Alara shard) is that the dragons are the feeding dragons, not the dragon fodder. Still excellent supplement to any devour, dragon or Jund-themed commander decks.

Apparently a Dragon Egg is easier to crack than a Roc Egg!

For optimal flavor, this should have:

Tap Dragon Egg and a Dragon whose toughness is four or greater: Put a warmth counter on Dragon Egg. When there are three or more warmth counters on Dragon Egg, sacrifice it.

Finally, to make it worth all that work, the Dragon token should start at 1/1 and get a +1/+1 counter for each warmth token on Dragon Egg when it dies.

Probably too complicated, I know, but I love complicated top-down cards.

Edit:
@Totema: You found me out, I'm actually Scott Hungerford. ;)

@Leshrac_Nightwalker: You're right... I just measured, and one of the coins very close to the egg (so as not to be fooled by perspective) is only about 1/10th the length of the egg. That would make the coin 9.6 inches across... that's a big coin! :P

Good with any effect that lets you sacrifice creatures for value, but my favorite is Sarkhan the Mad for obvious reasons
