Very solid sweeper. An exceptional threat in multiplayer, and was very strong when Extended legal.

A little overrated in some circles, I find, but it still does what it does exceptionally well.

No one mentioned how well it work with Jolreal, Empress of Beasts, use Jolreal's ability to turn all your opponents lands to creatures sacrifice the deed and pay no man, all creature that cost no mana or lass are now in the graveyard i.e. all their land, hell toss in a Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale and during their turn they may no longer have creatures too.

One of the most fearsome enchantments in whole MTG.

Not as good as it was in Invasion, but still one of the best sweepers available.

Markarmor... It doesn't work that way. It destroys those permanents. It does not cause your opponent to sacrifice them. there is a differance.

Epic card is epic. Green wraths are always fun, but if you can keep 1 or 2 of your dudes alive to continue beating, even better. Also makes tokens cry ><

this scares the s*** out of whoever is on the other side of the board... Best bomb by far, this can never be worth less than five.

Nuked a naya zoo deck with this recently. Turn 2 on the draw: he has 3 "apes" down and i've got a swamp in play. Drop a forest, cast dark ritual, and watch his board advantage turn to diddley-squat :-) There's a good reason why I run 3 of these main hehehehe.

The greatness of this card isn't that it bombs the field. It's that you can control what dies. It's similar to a "do x damage to all creatures," except you don't have to worry about someone adding 2 or 3 and killing something special. I love it. It's a situational bomb, to be sure, but suits many situations.

The beautiful (and powerful) Freyalise is not a planeswalker you'd want to tangle with....... at least when you're taking 'tangle' to mean 'fight.' ;)

@AvatarOfHOE

There's a reason Nevinyrral's Disk costs $10 a card and Pernicious Deed costs $25 a card. The Disk can be better in certain scenarios, yes, but in most decks where you can access the BlackGreen, Pernicious Deed is better. The great thing about the Deed is that you can CHOOSE what you want to destroy. If the thing that's winning you the game has 4cmc, you can use the deed to only hit everything ≤3cmc. And unlike other CMC sweepers like Powder Keg/Ratchet Bomb, this hits "cmc X or less," not "cmc equal to X." And of course this, unlike all those others (Disk included), can be activated the turn it hits the field.

This is my favorite card of all time. My friend used to play decks that constantly pumped crap out... and this card let me turn the tide against him. It lets you keep your big stuff around while clearing the board of enemy weenies- it protects you in multiplayer- it covers all the major permanent types... with the exception of Planeswalkers, which you could easily turn into an advantage. 5/5, forever.

Hey, it's Freyalise. Always wondered what she was meant to look like.

Which do you think is a better card to have in your hand at any time, this or Vindicate? Like just in any old match-up.

5/5. Just too good. I'll never be this card's best friend.

If this were printed nowadays, it would be a mythic that costs 2 more.

This card is an easy 5/5, and anybody who says otherwise hasn't played against it.

I remember pulling multiples of these when I was a kid and Apocalypse just came out. I was usually glad just because I knew people wanted them.

I'm pretty sure I traded one for a Sapphire Leech... then another one for a Wayward Angel later. Man, the adults really took advantage of me.

@BongRipper420 or it would be a sorcery that costs XBBG and still be a rare, case in point Gaze of Granite...

@ ZimmerRemmiz: And it would also destroy Planeswalkers.

Not only is it *that much better* than Gaze of Granite for obvious reasons, it has subtle reasons that it's better:

-It's {B} less color intensive, which is helpful
-It doesn't have {X} in it's cost, meaning that it's harder to counter-spell (due to you leaving mana open or casting it earlier). White also occasionally gets hard counters to {X} spells (not counterspells, but you get what I mean, like Medic)
-It's allowed to be activated at instant speed, meaning you can wait to pour in the same mana you would've anyway in order to kill an extra permanent, or to be ready to kill a crucial creature with another kill spell before igniting it the next turn.
-A pro *and* a con is that it misses planeswalkers. This sets it up perfectly for Garruk Wildspeaker to ramp it up a ton while protecting you with beasts. Also, Liliana of the Veil may see use in a deck with this included, and her low/common cost means that you don't want to nuke her with it.

and I'm sure there are other subtle advantages, such as putting it onto the field with replenish. The only times I can think of where Gaze is better is against Krosan Grip (if they left mana open) or odd situations where the casting cost matters (Manaplasm, Spellstutter, Chalice of the Void, etc..)

Oddly enough, it can save you as a T3 play to force an opponent to use part of T4 destroying it if you're desperate.

This card saved me during a Commander match. The guy was playing slivers with Sliver Overlord as his general. I was playing multi-colored with Cromat as mine.

He had me down to 15 life and 14 general damage. He also had Crystalline Sliver, Gemhide Sliver, and Heart Sliver out. He thought he had won the game because I had no board wipes in hand (he checked with Thoughtseize) and only a 1/1 white soldier token on the board.

I used Wargate to search for this, then played it with 2 mana pumped into it. It was enough to destroy his Crystalline Sliver, which made his creatures now targetable. On his turn, he put in Crypt Sliver, thinking that I only bought myself a turn, and I blocked the overlord with my soldier token.

On my turn, I top decked Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker and immediately played it to steal the overlord from him. From there, he couldn't touch me because I kept using the overlord to gain control of his slivers. He conceded after 2 turns. So yeah, this card saved me and provided for a humiliating defeat for my friend, lol.

One of the strongest enchantments in the game that hasn't been banned in Vintage. Possible contenders for the top crown include Dream Halls, Land Tax, Rancor and Phyrexian Arena. Then again, Mind Over Matter has ruined so many games for me that it deserves an honorable mention.

Incredibly effective reset button. Sticks it to weenie and token maker decks like nothing else.

Should have activation cost of "Bx: Destroy everything except lands and your Spiritmonger."
