Something about the original artwork... the way he resides in the far-off distance slowly walking a path of destruction... makes me want the Conflux version more.

I don't know. I'm pretty split between the two arts, they both look cool in different ways. The Conflux art has that massive, epic feel - especially since you need to look at it a couple moments before you really grasp the full scope that the picture's showing, which makes it that much more oomph-y.
This one, on the other hand, is much more vivid and vibrant, which is cool too. He probably shouldn't have put that tree there in the corner, that's making it look less massive than he was aiming for, I think.

Is he erupting out of a volcano? Thats kinda sick. But the original art is just beautiful. If you saw that a deep sense of mystery and mind numbing fear would consume your very soul, the kind of fear and awe that words can't describe. If you saw this dude youd soil yourself and run. Not very eloqent.

Ugh, this is another vote for Conflux art. They are really worlds apart, so comparing details wouldn't mean much. As was said, the other was from a mysterious approach. Your mind had to fill in the details as to what he looked like up close, and thus, gave it the same hint of fear horror movies over use now a days. This one is just "BOOM! Here I am!" and while not bad, it could never live up to what everyone's minds filled in last printing.

I like both, but if I had to make a choice, its the conflux art, this art makes it feel like, just another card (a fairly meh card in my opinion, usually its just a 10/10 unblockable shroud, which is good, for 2 or each color, hardcasting this thing is just so not worth it), when it came in Conflux, the set I started in, he was Legendary, this art is like, "yeah, he has protection from everything"

dunno, not into this art, the other art has a shadowy, mysterious feel, and you can sort of tell that it is an incredibly large creature. It gives the impression that it is almost god like, which is augmented by the flavor text.
but this, even though it is breaking over a mountain, somehow gives the immediate impression (from across a table) of being only about as big as primordial hydra, kind of like how you dont notice how tall iona is till you see the little man in the side. And as far as portraying an almost godlike being, it falls short, it just looks like a nice big hydra :/, i mean its impressive to be sure, but it seems like just another animal, like primordial hydra

I'm actually a fan of the new art. Progenitus is supposed to be a massive, primeval being, a physical god trapped beneath the earth. Considering that it is bursting out of a mountain, and we can't even see below the middle of it's necks, The artwork on this just say to me "Planetary scale." Like when fully emerged, the hydra-god of Alara would literally reach into the upper levels of the atmosphere.
The new art isn't bad. But the fact is, this card simply didn't need it. The old art was one of the most epic arts in all of Magic; it really conveyed the awe and terror of a hydra god who just woke from his centuries-long slumber. The new art makes him look like just another big fatty, rather than something omnipotent and otherworldly.
Whenever I read this card's name I can't help but imagine it being said by James Earl Jones.

EDIT: My whole point is that he's an untouchable 10/10 for a stupidly high mana cost. If all you're getting at that absurd price is a 10/10, it'd be nice if his gimmick actually worked the way you think it would.

I like the new art. It is actually really badass. The thing is, the old art portrayed a mysterious, godlike strength held by so few in the magic universe. Here, you can sort of see the monster, but in the old one, all you knew was that it was a giant *** hydra rearing back to strike. I don't know, the old art might have been my favorite art ever. It was obvious just from the old art that it was one of the most powerful monsters ever, which I liked.

Has no one heard of atmospheric perspective? The atmosphere makes very distant things look pale and bluish, even on a clear day. That's the reason the "purple mountain's majesty above the fruited plains" is purple. There is a lot of air between the foreground and the Progenitus.
I like the old art better. It looks more... ancient, mysterious, and powerful. But whatever the art, this is just mean with Concerted Effort.

Better than the Eldrazi. Sometimes. Maybe not. I don't know. Rafiq of the many is better. I can win the turn I get him out in my EDH deck. A humorous EDH captain, you'll basically be playing a five color singleton with the looming threat of this thing on the horizon. I am very much not a fan of the new art. Nothing against Mike, but this just doesn't have the same sense of majesty.
I also really wish it didn't have that second ability, it would make the card so much more elegant! However, this would also possibly be the worst thing ever to face turn 1 or 2 in a reanimator deck, so I understand the fear.
Love the rules text.. If he would be put imto a graveyard, REVEAL him.. Just hold up the card and say "Progenitus B*TCH!") and every one will quiver for a moment, then shuffle him into your lib.. lol. Not like revealing him is THAT necessary, everyone's eyes in the game including your own 2 since you drew into him, have been fixed on him since he hit the table!

@geraume actually, Clone doesn't target, if you actually took time to read the card. So you can Clone Progenitus, and then the legends rule occurs, and your clone is dead and your opponents Progenitus is bounced into their library, where it is relatively useless.
Other art was better, at least in my opinion. Epic card though.

Progenitus, for a lot of players, taught us a valuable lesson about how there's pretty much no creature in the game that can't be stopped in some way - even if some are ridiculously hard to stop. When I first got myself a Progenitus just after I started playing, I was very gleeful - "protection from everything" just sounded so omnipotent and devastating. But of course, some Googling made me realise that it wasn't so invulnerable...
I guess my point is that you could make the most sturdy creature there is - for example, a Progenitus made indestructible (perhaps via Darksteel Forge and Mycosynth Lattice). It can be killed by any clone effect. Alright, give it Undying via Mikaeus, the Unhallowed. It can still be bounced via Evacuation, and then countered. Alright, make it uncounterable via Gaea's Herald. It can still be exiled via Final Judgment, or sent to the bottom of your library via Terminus. Sure, you can get it out of exile with some cards, and can find it in your library with others, but at that point it's no longer the super survivable creature doing the work.
And yes, such a devastating combo such as Progenitus, Darksteel Forge, Mycosynth Lattice, Mikaeus the Unhallowed and Gaea's Herald is going to be very hard to stop for a random deck. But my point is, until they give a creature the ability "if this permanent would leave the battlefield, instead exile it, then return it to the battlefield under its owner's control" there's never going to be a creature that is outright unstoppable.

Exactly! The art was absolutely beautiful for that reason. Seeing the hydra towering into the sky, heads above the clouds and body obscured in the mist; a creature so grand that it cannot be seen in its full glory.

To all who are still confused, "protection from everything" means: - unblockable - shroud - prevent all damage that would be done to ~~~~ - ~~~~ can't be equipped or enchanted If something doesn't target this guy but would still affect him, he doesn't have protection from that. Final Judgment, Merciless Eviction, and other "fuck everything" cards also hit him and get rid of him for good.
