Well, i guess they'll never reprint that card, therefore it likely won't be playable ever in any format.

Sol Ring is a much better card, the only reason you'd use this is to get a 3CC card out on turn 1, but after that you will be taking a recurring 3 damage, screw that.

No Sol Ring is not better. The games in which this sees play will be over in a couple turns...if not turn 1.

Turn 1: Island, Mana Crypt, Tinker (sac Mana Crypt) = Inkwell Leviathan, Sphinx of the Steel Wind, Darksteel Colossus, or whatever robot happens to be fashionable at the time.
Most of the time you cast this, you don't intend to have it out for long. Building up storm count (and getting 2 more mana) the turn you go off is another typical use.

I know that I've turn zero'd an active Time Vault with this card. Infinite turns out of the starting gate? I'd say this is pretty damn useful.

This card won me alot of games, put it in a deck with the following
Mana Excel
Sol Ring, Mox Jet, Mox Sapphire, Mox Ruby, Mox Pearl, Mox Emerald, Mox Opal, Mox Diamond, Mana Vault, Grim Monolith, Black Lotus, Lotus Petal, Chrome Mox and 4 Dark Rituals.
Your first turn will pown every time, your going to have lots of mana to do something your opponent will not enjoy or most likely dump your hand and draw 7 till you do.
Back in the day we called it Type 1, now it's Vintage I guess, but either way I used Mana Crypt. It can decide a game on the first turn, who cares about 3 damage, the game is over by 3rd turn max in that format, if can't do that then don't play type 1 or at least think your deck over again.

The Harper Prism novel associated with this card must have been pretty bad; appearantly, they needed to give players broken artifact acceleration to buy it. The other books seem to have gotten by with offering relatively nothing at all.
Pay 2 Win. I wouldn't give a shlt but they brought this broken trash online. Good luck competing in older formats without shelling out at least100+ bucks for all these vintage staples. And you wont even begin to cover lands with that low of a budget.
To many tryhard spikes infesting the just for fun room.

I think the thing that many a player forget to understand is, as with The P9 (ie Moxen, Black Lotus, Sol Ring, etc) is that in 1995 there were no combo decks that existed like we know them today. And less than 10% of the card pool. It really wasn't THAT broken.
