Basic land OR a gate... this is incredible for the cost and rarity.

Gatekeeper Vine = (Rampant growth + 0/2 Defender) So Rampant growth is now not a wasted card any longer.

@Merlin117: You don't actually know what Rampant Growth does, do you. I know a lot of players who are strapped for cash and they're gonna love this and the Gate cards.

It's toughness is barely worth it. This set doesn't have many weak creatures in terms of power. BUT, the mana fixing is always relevant, especially in multicolored sets.
Card advantage is card advantage, even if that card isn't a spell.

This set has a lot of good defenders and this is no exception. Pros like me will be fetching lots of gates, that's for sure.

I'd probably prefer a rampant growth or farseek or something. Costs the same but also puts the land onto the battle. This might be good if you got ways to flicker it in and out, or have tons of cheap reanimation.

Rampant Growth's Advantages * Puts the land directly into play tapped.
Gatecreeper Vine's Advantages * Choose either a basic land or a gate. * Get a 0/2 defender. * Putting the land in your hand can sometimes be better, if you didn't have a land to play that turn (or none of the color you need).

I liked using this in sealed deck. Surprisingly frequent use for fetching a third land in time for turn three, not sure of constructed games but I was happy to see it in my opening hand during pre-release.

This better be leading up to some rather... MORE relevant Gate-based creature cards in the upcoming sets. Gates needs to be a good standard deck, I tell you what.

So solid. Well costed land tutor, common rarity, single color, and a decent chump-blocker.

It fixes mana and gets in the way of an attacker. Not bad at all.

This thing could have been a 0/3 and still would have been fine at common. I'm using it, but that thought will always be in the back of my head when I play it in my defender deck, and for that I'm disappointed. I love the hell out of what it does, but it's stats leave something to be desired. 3.5/5

2 toughness walls almost nothing in this set, but this is the card to get for color fixing. Any limited deck using 3 or more colors and has green wants at least 1 of these guys. I can imagine pauper formats wouldn't mind this card, as the gates are the only dual color lands at common that I know of, and this can fetch them.

3/5. A decent blocker with an ETB land fetch. Not bad.

When Gatecreeper Vine enterssssssss the battlefield, you may sssssssearch your library for a basssssssic land card or a Gate card, reveal it, put it into your hand, then ssssssssshuffle your library.

Seems strange that no one's mentioned Axebane Guardian, which was printed in the same set. For two mana you get a land, a 0/2 body and at least one turn's worth of extra multicoloured mana from the Axebane. If you haven't played a land so far in the turn then it can completely replace what you used to cast it. In that context I'd say it's at least a 3.5.
I don't see why you'd ever grab a gate with him, though. Why not just grab a basic of the color you need so you can play it untapped?

It'll be an essential part of Dragon's Maze.dec, maybe with some flicker. Aw, who am I kidding, Dragon's Maze won't be a deck.

This card, and gates, were made for limited and casual play. You aren't gonna see a lot of this in top 8 decks, but you will see this and the gates in a lot of multi-color kitchen table decks. Cheap mana fixing is what magic has needed for years. Now everyone I play with will have access to 3+ color decks.
