This card is really, really powerful for the cost. I mean, we're talking potential game winner with this guy. Any kind of creature which can be boosted like a Shivan Dragon can score double hits with this guy and wreck someone completely.
This is also a perfect addition to a creature steal like Ray of Command.
played this in a combo with Shivan Dragon, it one hit KO'ed when my opponent was on 20 life

In response to not assigning blockers, my friend cast this spell on his Battlegate Mimic for the winning hit.
Luckily, in response, I played my Fog.
Very nice card to have up your sleeve for whenever you need that extra umph.

Assault Strobe SORRY DOUBLE CLEAVE

@GrindPantera Assault Strobe is good, no doubt, but being a sorcery kinda kills it in many circumstances (without trample.) They get to see it coming for a whole step or two ahead of time which actually DOES matter. Kiln Fiend for instance, doesn't have trample. With assault strobe you're telling the opponent "block this guy and I basically wasted a card". With double cleave you get the choice of whether or not you'll kill the blocker or whether they'll "call your bluff" and get 8 straight to the head. FURTHER, double cleave and another instant, say blood frenzy or brute force can work in your favor even more. Let's say they decide they'll just trample you with their worm next turn and let you pass... you just got 20 damage through for 3 mana, none of it which they were prepared for.
Trust me when I say from experience, instant speed, especially in a buff heavy RDW style deck, is really, REALLY helpful.
So much so that assault strobe is being replaced by this in some of my decks.

Worth the extra (over Assault Strobe) if you're playing RW.

I'm putting a link to the card I think is better than this one, Psychotic Fury - cause I always forget its name.

helluin: I'd say it's worth the extra {1} just for instant speed, frankly.
combos with inquisitor's flail for.... QUADRUPLE STRIKE?!?! :O Okay, well that's the basic idea anyway... i expect this card to see serious play, especially in bant/exalted decks. It just has such beautiful synergy with invisible stalker
This is so much better than Assault Strobe it's ridiculous. Assault Strobe is just simply a pre-combat buff, while the the instant speed on this qualifies it as a useful combat trick. It's very worth the extra to be able to play this after blockers are declared. A definite 4/5, because it also can quite easily translate into incredibly efficient damage.
Also, unlike Assault Strobe, this is usable in mono white.

For the cost, this is intense; run this in a mono red deck with Arid Mesa, then say a Ball Lightning or even on the elemental you get from Zektar Shrine Expedition. There are countless ways of making a huge chunk in your opponents forces or life total with this.

I want this on Boros Charm (doesn't exist yet), but that might be a bit much to ask for.

@reapersaurus - While the card-draw that you net from Psychotic Fury is nice, this is easier to cast because you can use a Plains or a Mountain, and it can be played on a wider range of creatures. I like instant-speed Double Strike on my high-power Trample creatures, and most of them(that I play, anyway) are not multicoloured. This is pretty handy to throw on Nova Chaser, for example, which Psychotic Fury won't do for you. And with Infernal Plunge, a sac-worthy creature, and Flamekin Harbinger, that could be doable pretty early on.

Swing for 8 for two mana? Yes please.

Imagine it
Turn 5: Mountain, Thundermaw Hellkite, swing for 5
*Opponent flashes back Lingering Souls, bla bla bla*
Turn 6: Plains, Cloudshift my Thundermaw Hellkite, Double Cleave, Swing for 10. After combat damage just fling your Thundermaw Hellkite for the game. 15 damage for
I approve of the instant speed.
5/5
