How can you not like this card? Especially in a Goblin (WOW, obvious much?) deck. It would be fun to have this on my first turn, then pull out a Mudbutton Torchrunner for some added defense.

Turn 1: Goblin Lackey

Turn 2: Enchant Goblin Lackey with Power of Fire. Damage opponent for 1 and put siege gang commander in play.

Turn 3: Damage opponent for 1, put a second siege gang commander in play. Atack and hit for 5.

Rinse and repeat.

What were the people who made this expantion thinking? Kird Ape, mythic rare! Serendib Efreet, mythic rare! Tinker, mythic rare! The only ones I remotly agree with being mythic are Balance and Gifts Ungiven.

@Guest######: You've obviously never been on the recieving end of a wizened Tinkerer :P there's much scarier things than Darksteel Colossus in the depths of the Magic Library.

Kryptnyt has it correct. Darksteel Colossus is chopped liver compared to the things I've seen.

I agree with Kryptnyt and Lateralis0ne, but putting that aside, Mythic Rares doesn't need to be godly powerful. Mythic Rare is a rarity that is often times given to creatures or spells because they are unique in some way or another, and it gives them a certain feel to it.

As an example, the first 5 Planeswalkers was printed in regular rare, but were then upgraded to Mythic Rare status because it fitted their character better. Another example is Platinum Angel, which messes with the fundamentals of the game (winning and losing), and yet another Mythical creature is the new Abyssal Persecutor. Also, Hellkite Overlord is Mythic Rare, despite the fact that it's so expensive that people can rarely play it unless there's some trick to it (Elvish Piper, Dramatic Entrance, etc.)

Cards like Goblin Lackey have made insane plays possible, and therefore deserves Mythical Rare.

Anyway, back to Goblin Lackey; I can't believe they printed this as an uncommon back in the days. Elvish Piper has always been rare, and there's a good reason for that. Goblin Lackey should have been no exception.
On the other hand, seeing the many crazy things from back in the Urza block (Rewind, Time Spiral, etc.), I do understand that the powerlevels of cards back then were pretty twisted.

Lulz.

They made these cards Mythic Rares simply because at one point in time they dramatically changed the face of magic game play, all of which being restricted or banned in various formats.

Although, It's obvious you know nothing about how these cards could have been and in most cases, still are ridiculous.

Broken is such a small word...

Anyone who undervalues this card truly doesn't understand the power behind it. Lackey is a key component in every Goblin deck and allows for a free, uncounterable Goblin for the minor cost of dealing damage to a player. It's the best T1 play in the Legacy Vial Goblin for heavens sake.

amazing card, great in any goblin deck. 4.5, 5 if it had haste (although that would be broken)

"the things I've seen" and "much scarier things"...

Go on...

@Joker: How can I not like this card? Any card where winning the dice roll means, "If you don't have a 1 drop I get the best card in my deck for free on Turn 2" is broken.

A welcome new face to an (ugly) old friend.

The idea of a blood-spattered diplomacy helmet still makes me laugh.

@GuestXY: I can't help myself but I must laugh. It's not set on it's own and IIRC, it has been on sale for only one day. Also, it's not mythic. It's just promo card.

The only goblin card whose mana cost is relevant. All other goblins you sneak into play with aether vial and this guy.

@Guest...

Kird Ape was the DEFINITION of beatdown and zoo back when it was played, and Tinker was the definition of broken. Now I agree with you on Balance, but Gifts Ungiven? It might be good, but Intuition tells me there's a reason why the latter costs 3 times more.

T.1 Lackey = half of the golden rule for Legacy Goblins.

Other half is T.1 Aether Vial

Opening hand: 1 Mountain, 2 Goblin Lackeys, 1 Goblin Matron, 1 Siege-Gang Commander, 1 Boggart Shenanigans, 1 Howling Mine.

Turn 1: I play Mountain, cast Goblin Lackey. My opponent plays Swamp.
Turn 2: Draw Howling Mine. I attack with Goblin Lackey, use his ability to play Goblin Matron to search for a second Siege-Gang Commander. Play second Goblin Lackey. My opponent plays Swamp.
Turn 3: Draw Howling Mine. Attack with two Goblin Lackeys and the Goblin Matron. Lackeys lay two Siege-Gang Commanders and six related tokens on the field. My opponent plays Swamp. Casts Soot Imp.
Turn 4: Draw Tarfire. Attack with two Goblin Lackeys, Goblin Matron, two Siege-gang Commanders, and six Goblin tokens. Opponent kills one Lackey with Soot Imp. Opponent's life total 4. Lackey lays Boggart Shenanigans. Opponent plays Swamp. In an act of suicidal desperation, he casts Mutilate. Everything dies. The Shenanigans triggers finish off my opponent.

It was an absolute dream game. I only played one land, and two spells. My opponent was off to an exceptionally slow start, while mine couldn't have been any faster.

Conclusion: Goblin Lackey is bananas.

Funny, amazing, powerful little card. Perfect in pretty much any Goblin deck.

@everyone (basically)

It's a FTV card, that's why it is mythic rare.....
Although the card is still extremely vicious.

This card doesn't belong in a fun game. Someone playing this in the fun room on MTGO means a block.

I don't think a lackey from a widely-mocked and reviled race of creatures is really the stuff of myths.

I like the new art, even though he looks more like a Goblin Superhero then a lackey.

Personally, this is one of the reasons I hate playing against goblins so much in 'casual/fun' games. They're pretty much the only games my playgroup plays, but the existence of my mate's goblin deck (which he plays most of the time due to it being his most successful), including 4 of these turn 1 nightmares, means that we have to make careful considerations during deck construction that we might not otherwise - like ensuring almost every deck has 1 mana removal, and early defense for the rest of the goblins, and preferably some lifegain because Grenades and Siege-Gang Commanders can get through anyway, and so on.

It's purely my opinion, but half-decent goblin decks suck in casual, and often if I know it's coming I'll use one of my more abusive 1v1 decks (like elfball) out of spite. >.<

PackOfThieves - requires some sort of extra mana ramp in order to pull that off, like a Simian Spirit Guide. Not to mention that Goblin Lackey is never in any decent Kiki-Pestermite deck. ^^
