Goodbye Mana Leak, welcome Rewind!

Rancor and Rewind? It's like a party, and all the once-broken cards from Urza's Block are invited! I'd play this over Cancel.

Well, that was unexpected.

I think I just heard every aggro player in the world simultaneously have an aneurysm.

this card is bonkers. once that control player has four lands, prepare to be unable to cast any spells.

I'm actually old enough to remeber when rewind first came out in Urza's Saga. It was incredibly annoying then, and will probably be twice as annoying now. I only hope they eventually reprint seedtime, insist, or Multani's Presence to balance it out.

"Magic players, we're sorry for making you have to use Cancel since 10th Edition. We hope this will make up for it."

YAY this can infinite with Tamiyo's emblem! Too bad it will take freaking forever in standard. This combo was plausible in all other formats otherwise. Still, NICE hard counter.

This is what we get for complaining about Cancel year after year.

And just think, for a couple terrifying months Mana Leak and Rewind COEXIST in Standard o.O

MBC gets Phyrexian Obliterator + Liliana of the Dark Realms, and MUC gets Mana Leak + Rewind.

Green gets Rancor and screw it, Rancor makes Grizzly Bears great, let alone freaking Glistener Elf! um, what else...

White doesn't seem to have any interactions between what's rotating and what's coming in that are particularly better or worse than what colors are normally supposed to get.

I can't think of any Red combos either. At least, nothing as abusive as Blue Black and Green.

With mana leak and now this the people whining about the lack of Counterspell and the decrease in Draw-Go are being appeased more and more. I don't mind this too much, because while they will enjoy a counterspell, they will be at 7 or so life due to the rancors and such that will be killing them since turn 2.

Additionally, this card always makes me think of the song of the same name by Poets of the Fall.

This... Actually kinda makes up for losing Mana Leak. The trade makes early game much less blue-friendly but allows blue to dominate past turn 4.

God, could you imagine staring at four untapped lands and more than one of these in hand while passing the turn? It'd be like the Timmiest moment of Blue mages ever.

This and Think Twice are in Standard at the same time. Blue is going to be very, very happy. Not that it wasn't already.

One card. Tamiyo, the Moon Sage. Infinite countering. I mean, it's listed in her comments section. Don't you think Wizards did that on PURPOSE? I mean, release Tamiyo, keep track of her insane combos in the comments, then reprint an INSANELY good card with her? Either that, or they planned on reprinting this, but pre-printed Tamiyo so that blue would just get insane.

For those who don't know and are too lazy to check, Tamiyo's a planeswalker from Avacyn Restored, in blue, with a mana cost of 5 total (two of which are blue) and a starting loyalty of 4. Her ultimate gives you an emblem with TWO effects, not just one (first time ever): "You have no maximum hand size" and "Whenever a card would be put into your graveyard from anywhere, put that card into your hand instead". Since this is, in essence, a free counter-spell card, and would go TO YOUR GRAVEYARD NORMALLY, Tamiyo puts it back into your hand, effectively giving you infinite counters, provided you just keep at least 4 mana untapped at the end of your turn.

Oh how I am going to love to play this alongside Arcane Melee.

★★★★★ (5.0/5.0) (1 vote)
@Rentyr I was about to say the same thing. Plus with the possibility of something similiar to ravnica's bounce-lands in R2R, this card could be awesome.

I am astounded this saw reprinting... admittedly, there's probably no way to break it now, but I sort of thought the "untap all the lands you needed to cast this" cards were intentionally buried so nobody would ever try to use that mechanic again.

A very good counter. But personally, I'd rather not have to wait until turn 4 to start countering stuff, especially since the current Standard metagame where I play usually has people being dead or near-dead by that point.

Not saying it's a bad card; it's FAR from that! Just that it's not quite as reliable in the metagame I'm familiar with due to how fast things tend to go.

@mrhardy12 : Someone can still respond to your Rewind if they have an instant or ability, and the Rewind will not be returned and will not have untapped any lands yet.

Besides, if you get a Tamiyo emblem, the game should be yours anyway.

Now, I don't know if Rewind will get the use that it had before.

I think the aspect of Mana Leak that got everyone's attention was it's small 1Blue 'body'. It could be splashed easily, and it is very useful against aggro decks. Sure, once you got to turn 6+, it became mostly redundant, but by then, you should have something that can or soon will kill them.

A turn 4 Snapcaster into Mana Leak was hilariously delicious. A turn 6 Rewind... Maybe not so much.

I clearly see why it's great: it's essentially a free counterspell. However, the drawback is that you can't play it before turn 4 (not considering ramp).

Also, about the Infinite Tamiyo combo: That will take you 8 turns for that to happen without considerations of Proliferating, Damage, or keeping her alive. Do you think Delver decks takes that long? Do you think Humans start really winning around then? I don't think so.

@colven Yes it will counter creatures.
Man can't wait til return to ravnica. Goblin Electromancer and then this thing? Wow!I wonder if that was intentional?

One of the best counters in the game. Mono blue control looks to make a comeback as well.

This is great to use with things like Forbidden Alchemy, you can counter and use your instant speed draw. Great with flash, and other instants. Not to mention that you can counter two things in one turn.

As for Tamiyo.. Who cares... If she ever gos Ult its Good Game no matter whats in your hand...

If Tamiyo's ultimate goes off, you're probably dead anyways, Rewind or no Rewind =D

I realize that having your 4 mana back might be very good, but I only play Limited and in this format it's way much harder to find good combos with this card. And, most of the time, MC=4 is way too expensive for a counter.

Never thought I'd say an absurd like this, but somehow I miss Cancel...
Trapez
☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
It's really sweet with cards lowering the cost of casting like Goblin Electromancer etc. when you end up with more lands untapped than before casting. This is using counterspells as mana ramp (well, almost) :D
rabbimoshie
☆☆☆☆☆ (0.5/5.0) (1 vote)
Better than Counterspell, and Counterspell was the best counter in the game.
patronofthesound
☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
Why not just bring back palinchron & treachery? Blue needs less power, not tons more wizards...e.g., cyclonic rift and snapcaster probably shouldve never seen print.

@rabbimoshie

cryptic command is the best counterspell in the game, and mana leak is actually probably better than counterspell because of splashability
PopcornBunni
☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
Obvious, but running this with Flash creatures is the best synergy you can get from the card for blue control.

It isn't "free," since the draw back of the card is having to give up a sorcery play for the turn, like any other counter, and requires high commitment to that slower play, so being able to potentially both Cancel AND flash in a Flyer, while not strict card advantage, is greatly efficient.

Oh and of course it should be said that this is a great reprint, and it's great to see it returning for M14.

How to make people quit:
1.) Counter with Rewind, Untap two islands and two opponents lands
2.) Opponent plays follow up spell
3.) Counterspell as you laugh maniacally.
