Eh. If theres a token in play, then sure its ok. But otherwise its 7/7 with out any other abilities, so its not all that exciting.

Of course chump blockers will make this guy less harmful, but consider that you could take him into any tribal deck that runs green (even multicolored ones, since he only requires one green mana to cast), he can serve as solid 7/7 body for only 5 mana that might get boosted by other effects (including the cost if you come up with Bannerets, Warchiefs or whatsoever)
And if you can champion a creatures with handy a handy cip/"enters the battlefield"-trigger which will be activated once this guy leaves play again, i don't see any problem with that card.

the biggest ally out there so far, really a 7/7 vanilla with sprinkles on top

he himself isnt to great sadly, BUT you can make him awesome, soul's fire for instance.....

or that extended ally deck, hello big ally, welcome to the team, now if you could please kick off the trigger stack, that is, right after you target your championee

Sure it's a 7/7 with no abilities. That costs five mana. Sign me up.

a 7/7 for 5CMC, championing creatures always has practical uses, fits in any tribal deck that can splash green, easy to buff, great card, solid 4/5 from me.

I use this in my Giants deck. The dream play with it is: cast for three mana because of Stinkdrinker Daredevil. It's a 9/9 trampler due to Sunrise Sovereign. Equip it for free with Obsidian Battle-Axe, so it's now an 11/10 hasty trampler. The championed creature is Ondu Giant, so if it dies, I'll at least get another land out of my library. And then I might just Fling it.

Each of its characteristics proves to be extremely useful in this situation: its wacky cost-to-power ratio, its changeling and its champion. While championing a token seems like an obvious first choice, there are so many other options that are much more interesting and helpful.

Changeling creatures are awesome in Giant decks, because Giants have some of the most brutal tribal buffs. Changeling is one of the best ideas to come out of the Lorwyn-Shadowmoor period, because it stops tribal deck-building from getting dreadfully predictable.

Aside from being very efficient and huge, it can be used in a reaper king deck to get double the trigger when it dies.

What's the flavor of the Champion mechanic, exactly? I thought it was when a creature became stronger/more skilled/picked up a few friends (when it requires a specific creature type) or in the case of the Changelings, they revealed themselves. If the latter is the case, this guy is REALLY GOOD at shapeshifting. Maybe he was pretending to be a Merrow and the surrounding lake at the same time.

you know, I like the changelings. I hope that when we return to lorwyn, that they get more cards.

As for the titan, its a BAMF. put this in a sliver deck, its good. elf deck? its good. it works in just about EVERY tribal deck that has some green in it. that sexy 7/7 is not that bad either. the championing is a minor setback, but it works out in the end.
