Great card, especially with the mana acceperation black used to have. Get it out early with dark ritual's or culling the weak's, pay 10 life and swing away. Nice bonus that the paying of life is a CIP trigger, not an additional cost, so if you get coutnered, no loss of life. Great card all around.

A neat card, but the life investment is just a bit too risky. With a ton of removal flying around (especially at the multiplayer table,) your investment can so easily backfire.

Angelic Chorus. 19/19 trampler for 6 with no downside? Sign me up. If you're very evil, Cradle of Vitality. And if you just hate the person (people really; you'd probably only have this setup in multiplayer), both those, and Sanguine Bond. Ouch.

The life pay mentisan additional cost to cast it, so if it gets counterspelled, you're screwed. The 2008 ruling is outdated and corresponds to an earlier version of the Oracle text. It really should be removed.

I had a crowning moment of awesome against this card. My friend drew this in his opening hand, along with 6 swamps, and went with it. Both he and I played small things, and neither of us drew blood until his sixth turn, when he played it for 15!!! He had a 15/15 trampler!!! The only reason I won (and I won with just 1 life point left) was because I managed to get out 2 (count 'em, 2) Rootbreaker Worms. We both agreed that it was perhaps the best game we'd played.

How confusing. Though the rulings indicate that you pay life as you cast Minion, the Oracle indicates that you don't till it resolves.
I'd assume the rulings are out of date and go with the Oracle wording.

Children of Korlis is a nice, neat combo with this, as is Tainted Sigil. Now I come to think of it, {W}/{B} pay/gain could be a fun deck with stuff like Hatred and some lifelink thrown in.
