I wonder if they developed Footsteps of the Goryo specifically with Homura in mind.

This card is actually pretty decent even for 6 mana because you can get the affect any time you can play an instant, and the monk can still attack even if it can't block. If you attack the enemy, have a good burn card in hand, you can kill it on the spot to bring it back and give all your creatures +2 and flying, and pump for red mana.

What you want to do with this guy is throw a Firebreathing-type on HIM. Puts your opponent in a tough spot.
@Holgir: You'd have to discard him or something for that to work. I think they designed Through the Breach with him in mind.

but for the card, it's not bad, since the flipped is pretty good, and it would be pretty cool to bone splinters or something similar it, but it's sorta a lot of mana, you know?

I'm very confused. Gatherer has the enchantment part of this card wrong. 1) The Rules Text is left blank and 2) it's got Pow/Tgh of 2/2, it's an enchantment so it shouldn't have a Pow/Tgh. Other than that, I like this card :p

Just play him followed by Flame Slash. For 7 mana all your creatures get +2/+2, flying, and power boost abilities.

The finisher in my Jund token deck "Munchy". Turns all my cute little saps into very decent impressions of baby dragons. Scarland Thrinax is already in the deck so getting him to flip isn't really an issue.

Under the new Legendary rule, you should be able to flip this guy just by playing a second one, and you should be able to keep both copies of it. Lets say you have one on the battlefield and then play a second one. The new legend rule will force you to pick one and send the other to the graveyard as a state based effect. The one that went to the grave should then return flipped as per its ability. You then have one Homura, Human Ascendant and one Homura's Essence, and, since they have different names now, the legend rule should not apply.

I have a blast playing this guy as my mono-red EDH Commander - he unleashes the dragon in everything! But I do know that he can't do it alone, so he gets ramp and fatties for all that Firebreathing. He also thrives in a deck with enough synergy to kill him, since opponents are likely going to try and keep him alive. There are the obvious deck choices...Crater Hellion, Flametongue Kavu, Ryusei, the Falling Star, and then there are the less obvious choices Warstorm Surge, Butcher Orgg, Grab the Reins. Oh, and he does love sweepers. Those sweet, sweet red sweepers... Star Storm, Blasphemous Act.

Also, your mistmeadow skulks, Darksteel Sentinels and Vulshok Refugees get scary after a Chain Reaction kills this.
